Sirach 9

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 Do not be jealous of the wife you love, do not teach her lessons in how to harm you.	1 Não sejas cioso da mulher que repousa no teu seio, para que não empregue contra ti a malícia que lhe ensinaste.
2 Do not put yourself in a woman's hands or she may come to dominate you completely.	2 Não dês à mulher poder sobre a tua alma. para que não usurpe a tua autoridade, e fiques envergonhado.
3 Do not keep company with a prostitute, in case you get entangled in her snares.	3 Não olhes para a mulher volúvel, para não caíres nos seus laços.
4 Do not dal y with a singing girl, in case you get caught by her wiles.	4 Não andes muito com uma bailarina, nem a ouças, para não pereceres à força dos seus atractivos.
5 Do not stare at a pretty girl, in case you and she incur the same punishment.	5 Não detenhas os teus olhos sobre uma donzela. para que a sua beleza não te seja ocasião de queda.
6 Do not give your heart to whores, or you wil ruin your inheritance.	6 Nunca entregues a tua alma às prostitutas, para que te não percas a ti e aos teus bens. Não deixes errar os olhos pelas ruas da cidade, nem andes vagueando pelas suas praças.
7 Keep your eyes to yourself in the streets of a town, do not prowl about its unfrequented quarters.
8 Turn your eyes away from a handsome woman, do not stare at a beauty belonging to someone else.Because of a woman's beauty, many have been undone; this makes passion flare up like a fire.	8 Afasta os teus olhos da mulher enfeitada, e não olhes com insistência para a formosura alheia.
9 Never sit down with a married woman, or sit at table with her drinking wine, in case you let your heartsuccumb to her and you lose al self-control and slide to disaster.	9 Por causa da formosura da mulher pereceram muitos, e por ela se acende a concupiscência como fogo.
10 Do not desert an old friend; the new one wil not be his match. New friend, new wine; when it grows old,you drink it with pleasure.	10 Toda a mulher devassa será pisada como esterco no caminho.
11 Do not envy the sinner his success; you do not know how that wil end.	11 Muitos, por terem admirado a formosura da mulher alheia, se tornaram réprobos, porque a sua conversação queima como fogo.
12 Do not take pleasure in what pleases the godless; remember they wil not go unpunished here below.	12 Não te assentes jamais com a mulher alheia, nem te recostes com ela à mesa:
13 Keep your distance from the man who has the power to put to death, and you wil not be haunted by thefear of dying. If you do approach him, make no false move, or he may take your life. Realise that you aretreading among trip-lines, that you are strolling on the battlements.	13 não a incites a beber vinho (contigo) para que não suceda que o teu coração se converta para ela e que a tua paixão te faça cair na perdição.
14 Cultivate your neighbours to the best of your ability, and consult with the wise.	14 Não deixes o amigo antigo, porque o novo não será semelhante a ele.
15 For conversation seek the intelligent, let al your discussions bear on the law of the Most High.	15 O amigo novo é um vinho novo; quando se fizer velho, (então) o beberás com gosto.
16 Have the upright for your table companions, and let your pride be in fearing the Lord.	16 Não invejes a glória nem as riquezas do pecador, porque não sabes qual será a sua ruína.
17 Work from skilled hands will earn its praise, but a leader of the people must be skilful in words.	17 Não te agrade a violência dos injustos, sabendo que até à sepultura não agradará o ímpio (a Deus).
18 A chatterbox is a terror to his town, a loose talker is detested.	18 Conserva-te longe daquele homem que tem poder de mandar matar, e assim não saberás o que é temer a morte.
	19 Mas, se te aproximares dele, vê não cometas algum mal, donde possa resultar tirar-te a vida.
	20 Sabe que comunicas com a morte, porque caminhas no meio de laços, e andas sobre as armas de homens irritados.
	21 Segundo as tuas forças acautela-te do teu próximo, e trata com os sábios e prudentes.
	22 Os teus convivas sejam homens justos; no temor de Deus esteja posta a tua glória;
	23 ocupe o teu espírito o pensamento de Deus, e toda a tua conversação verse sobre os preceitos do Altíssimo.
	24 Os artistas são louvados pelas obras das suas mãos, o príncipe do povo pela sabedoria dos seus discursos, e os velhos pela prudência das suas palavras.
