Sirach 9

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Do not be jealous of the wife you love, do not teach her lessons in how to harm you.	1 Non essere geloso con la donna che ami, perché non le insegni a farti del male.
2 Do not put yourself in a woman's hands or she may come to dominate you completely.	2 Non consegnare l'anima alla tua donna, perché non svilisca le tue forze.
3 Do not keep company with a prostitute, in case you get entangled in her snares.	3 Non avvicinare una donna licenziosa, per non cadere nei suoi lacci.
4 Do not dal y with a singing girl, in case you get caught by her wiles.	4 Non intrattenerti con una cantante per non cadere nelle sue seduzioni.
5 Do not stare at a pretty girl, in case you and she incur the same punishment.	5 Non stare a osservare una vergine, perché poi ne pagherai i danni.
6 Do not give your heart to whores, or you wil ruin your inheritance.	6 Non darti in balìa delle prostitute, per non perdere il tuo patrimonio.
7 Keep your eyes to yourself in the streets of a town, do not prowl about its unfrequented quarters.	7 Non curiosare per le vie della città e non vagare nei suoi angoli deserti.
8 Turn your eyes away from a handsome woman, do not stare at a beauty belonging to someone else.Because of a woman's beauty, many have been undone; this makes passion flare up like a fire.	8 Allontana l'occhio dalla donna avvenente e non mirare le bellezze d'una estranea; molti ha sedotto la bellezza d'una donna, il suo amore brucia come un fuoco.
9 Never sit down with a married woman, or sit at table with her drinking wine, in case you let your heartsuccumb to her and you lose al self-control and slide to disaster.	9 Non sederti assieme con la moglie d'un altro, in sua compagnia non bere ad una festa, perché la tua anima non le corra dietro e tu cada, insanguinato, nella perdizione.
10 Do not desert an old friend; the new one wil not be his match. New friend, new wine; when it grows old,you drink it with pleasure.	10 Non lasciare il vecchio amico perché quello nuovo non l'eguaglia; l'amico è come il vino nuovo: lo bevi con gioia quando è invecchiato.
11 Do not envy the sinner his success; you do not know how that wil end.	11 Non invidiare il successo del peccatore, perché non sai come si perderà.
12 Do not take pleasure in what pleases the godless; remember they wil not go unpunished here below.	12 Non gioire con gli empi contenti, perché saranno puniti prima di giungere agl'inferi.
13 Keep your distance from the man who has the power to put to death, and you wil not be haunted by thefear of dying. If you do approach him, make no false move, or he may take your life. Realise that you aretreading among trip-lines, that you are strolling on the battlements.	13 Sta' lontano da chi ha potere d'uccidere, così non avrai paura della morte; ma se l'avvicini, non sbagliare, perché non ti tolga la vita; ricòrdati che ti aggiri tra i lacci e cammini sui bastioni della città.
14 Cultivate your neighbours to the best of your ability, and consult with the wise.	14 Per quanto puoi pondera i tuoi vicini, e consigliati con quelli che son saggi.
15 For conversation seek the intelligent, let al your discussions bear on the law of the Most High.	15 Conversa con gente di senno e discorri sempre sulla legge dell'Altissimo.
16 Have the upright for your table companions, and let your pride be in fearing the Lord.	16 I tuoi commensali siano dei giusti, e sia tua gloria temere il Signore.
17 Work from skilled hands will earn its praise, but a leader of the people must be skilful in words.	17 Come l'artigiano eccelle per la sua mano, così un capo di popolo per la parola saggia.
18 A chatterbox is a terror to his town, a loose talker is detested.	18 Il chiacchierone è temuto nella città, e pure chi parla a vanvera è odiato.
