NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 I too am mortal like everyone else, a descendant of the first man formed from the earth. I was model edin flesh inside a mother's womb,	1 Yo también soy un hombre mortal, igual que todos, nacido del primer hombre, que fue formado de la tierra: en el seno de una madre fue modelada mi carne;
2 where, for ten months, in blood I acquired substance -- the result of virile seed and pleasure, sleep'scompanion.	2 durante diez meses tomé consistencia en su sangre, gracias al semen paterno y al placer que va acompañado del sueño.
3 I too, when I was born, drew in the common air, I fel on the same ground that bears us al , and cryingwas the first sound I made, like everyone else.	3 Yo también, al nacer, respiré el aire común, caí sobre la tierra que nos recibe a todos por igual, y mi primer grito, como el de todos, fue el llanto.
4 I was nurtured in swaddling clothes, with every care.	4 Fui criado entre pañales y en medio de cuidados,
5 No king has known any other beginning of existence;	5 porque ningún rey comenzó a vivir de otra manera:
6 for there is only one way into life, and one way out of it.	6 la entrada en la vida es la misma para todos, y también es igual la salida.
7 And so I prayed, and understanding was given me; I entreated, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.	7 Por eso oré, y me fue dada la prudencia, supliqué, y descendió sobre mí el espíritu de la Sabiduría.
8 I esteemed her more than sceptres and thrones; compared with her, I held riches as nothing.	8 La preferí a los cetros y a los tronos, y tuve por nada las riquezas en comparación con ella.
9 I reckoned no precious stone to be her equal, for compared with her, al gold is a pinch of sand, andbeside her, silver ranks as mud.	9 No la igualé a la piedra más preciosa, porque todo el oro, comparado con ella, es un poco de arena; y la plata, a su lado, será considerada como barro.
10 I loved her more than health or beauty, preferred her to the light, since her radiance never sleeps.	10 La amé más que a la salud y a la hermosura, y la quise más que a la luz del día, porque su resplandor no tiene ocaso.
11 In her company al good things came to me, and at her hands incalculable wealth.	11 Junto con ella me vinieron todos los bienes, y ella tenía en sus manos una riqueza incalculable.
12 All these delighted me, since Wisdom brings them, though I did not then realise that she was theirmother.	12 Yo gocé de todos esos bienes, porque la Sabiduría es la que los dirige, aunque ignoraba que ella era su madre.
13 What I learned diligently, I shal pass on liberally, I shal not conceal how rich she is.	13 La aprendí con sinceridad y la comunico sin envidia, y a nadie le oculto sus riquezas.
14 For she is to human beings an inexhaustible treasure, and those who acquire this win God'sfriendship, commended to him by the gifts of instruction.	14 Porque ella es para los hombres un tesoro inagotable: los que la adquieren se ganan la amistad de Dios, ya que son recomendados a él por los dones de la instrucción.
15 May God grant me to speak as he would wish and conceive thoughts worthy of the gifts I havereceived, since he is both guide to Wisdom and director of sages;	15 Que Dios me conceda hablar con inteligencia, y que mis pensamientos sean dignos de los dones recibidos, porque él mismo es el guía de la Sabiduría y el que dirige a los sabios.
16 for we are in his hand, yes, ourselves and our sayings, and al intellectual and al practical knowledge.	16 En sus manos estamos nosotros y nuestras palabras, y también todo el saber y la destreza para obrar.
17 He it was who gave me sure knowledge of what exists, to understand the structure of the world andthe action of the elements,	17 El me dio un conocimiento exacto de todo lo que existe, para comprender la estructura del mundo y la actividad de los elementos;
18 the beginning, end and middle of the times, the alternation of the solstices and the succession of theseasons,	18 el comienzo, el fin y el medio de los tiempos, la alternancia de los solsticios y el cambio de las estaciones,
19 the cycles of the year and the position of the stars,	19 los ciclos del año y las posiciones de los astros;
20 the natures of animals and the instincts of wild beasts, the powers of spirits and human mentalprocesses, the varieties of plants and the medical properties of roots.	20 la naturaleza de los animales y los instintos de las fieras, el poder de los espíritus y los pensamientos de los hombres; las variedades de las plantas y las propiedades de las raíces.
21 And now I understand everything, hidden or visible, for Wisdom, the designer of all things, hasinstructed me.	21 Conocí todo lo que está oculto o manifiesto, porque me instruyó la Sabiduría, la artífice de todas las cosas.
22 For within her is a spirit intel igent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, mobile, incisive, unsul ied, lucid,invulnerable, benevolent, shrewd,	22 En ella hay un espíritu inteligente, santo, único, multiforme, sutil, ágil, perspicaz, sin mancha, diáfano, inalterable, amante del bien, agudo,
23 irresistible, beneficent, friendly to human beings, steadfast, dependable, unperturbed, almighty, al -surveying, penetrating al intel igent, pure and most subtle spirits.	23 libre, bienhechor, amigo de los hombres, firme, seguro, sereno, que todo lo puede, lo observa todo y penetra en todos los espíritus: en los puros y hasta los más sutiles.
24 For Wisdom is quicker to move than any motion; she is so pure, she pervades and permeates allthings.	24 La Sabiduría es más ágil que cualquier movimiento; a causa de su pureza, lo atraviesa y penetra todo.
25 She is a breath of the power of God, pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty; so nothing impurecan find its way into her.	25 Ella es exhalación del poder de Dios, una emanación pura de la gloria del Todopoderoso: por eso, nada manchado puede alcanzarla.
26 For she is a reflection of the eternal light, untarnished mirror of God's active power, and image of hisgoodness.	26 Ella es el resplandor de la luz eterna, un espejo sin mancha de la actividad de Dios y una imagen de su bondad.
27 Although she is alone, she can do everything; herself unchanging, she renews the world, and,generation after generation, passing into holy souls, she makes them into God's friends and prophets;	27 Aunque es una sola, lo puede todo; permaneciendo en sí misma, renueva el universo; de generación en generación, entra en las almas santas, para hacer amigos de Dios y profetas.
28 for God loves only those who dwel with Wisdom.	28 Porque Dios ama únicamente a los que conviven con la Sabiduría.
29 She is indeed more splendid than the sun, she outshines al the constel ations; compared with light,she takes first place,	29 Ella, en efecto, es más radiante que el sol y supera a todas las constelaciones; es más luminosa que la misma luz,
30 for light must yield to night, but against Wisdom evil cannot prevail.	30 Ya que la luz cede su lugar a la noche, pero contra la Sabiduría no prevalece el mal.
