Proverbs 4

NEW JERUSALEM	Sacra Bibbia Garofalo
1 Listen, my children, to a father's instruction; pay attention, and learn what understanding is.	1 Ascoltate, o figli, l’istruzione del padre e state attenti a imparare la sapienza,
2 What I am offering you is sound doctrine: do not forsake my teaching.	2 poiché io vi do una dottrina sana: non trascurare le mie lezioni.
3 I too was once a child with a father, in my mother's eyes a tender child, unique.	3 Anch’io fui un figlio ubbidiente a mio padre, tenero e amato da mia madre;
4 This was what he used to teach me, 'Let your heart treasure what I have to say, keep my principles andyou wil live;	4 egli mi istruiva dicendomi: «La tua mente ritenga bene le mie parole osserva i miei comandamenti e vivrai.
5 acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, never forget her, never deviate from my words.	5 Acquista sapienza, acquista intelligenza, non dimenticare né scostarti dai detti della mia bocca.
6 Do not desert her, she will keep you safe; love her, she wil watch over you.	6 Non abbandonarla ed essa ti custodirà, amala ed essa ti proteggerà.
7 The first principle of wisdom is: acquire wisdom; at the cost of all you have, acquire understanding!	7 Prima fra le tue doti acquista la sapienza e, a costo di quanto possiedi, procurati l'intelligenza.
8 Hold her close, and she wil make you great; embrace her, and she wil be your pride;	8 Stimala molto ed essa ti esalterà, ti farà onore se la abbraccerai;
9 she will provide a graceful garland for your head, bestow a crown of honour on you.'	9 ti porrà sul capo una corona graziosa, ti cingerà di un fulgido diadema».
10 Listen, my child, take my words to heart, and the years of your life wil be multiplied.	10 Ascolta, figlio mio, accogli le mie parole e gli anni della tua vita si moltiplicheranno,
11 I have educated you in the ways of wisdom, I have guided you along the path of honesty.	11 lo ti mostro la via della saggezza e ti avvio per il retto sentiero.
12 When you walk, your going wil be unhindered, if you run, you wil not stumble.	12 Quando camminerai i tuoi passi non saranno intralciati e, se dovrai correre, non inciamperai.
13 Hold fast to discipline, never let her go, keep your eyes on her, she is your life.	13 Tieniti ben saldo nella disciplina, non abbandonarla; mantienila, perché essa è la tua vita.
14 Do not fol ow the path of the wicked, do not walk the way that the evil go.	14 Non metterti sul sentiero degli empi e non battere la via dei malvagi;
15 Avoid it, do not take it, turn your back on it, pass it by.	15 schivala, non passarci, allontanatene e passa oltre.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they have first done wrong, they miss their sleep if they have not madesomeone stumble;	16 Poiché quelli non vanno a dormire se non hanno fatto del male, ed è rapito il loro sonno se non fanno incespicare qualcuno.
17 for the bread of wickedness is what they eat, and the wine of violence is what they drink.	17 Mangiano il pane dell’ingiustizia e bevono i vino della violenza;
18 The path of the upright is like the light of dawn, its brightness growing to the ful ness of day;	18 ma la via dei giusti è come la luce dell’alba che aumenta in splendore fino a pieno giorno.
19 the way of the wicked is as dark as night, they cannot tel the obstacles they stumble over.	19 La via degli empi è come il buio, essi non vedono ciò che li farà cadere.
20 My child, pay attention to what I am telling you, listen careful y to my words;	20 Figlio mio, sta attento alle mie parole, porgi l’orecchio ai miei detti,
21 do not let them out of your sight, keep them deep in your heart.	21 non perderli mai di vista, conservali in fondo al tuo cuore,
22 For they are life to those who find them and health to al humanity.	22 poiché sono vita per chi li possiede e salute per tutto il loro corpo.
23 More than al else, keep watch over your heart, since here are the wel springs of life.	23 Con ogni diligenza custodisci il tuo cuore, poiché da esso sgorga la vita.
24 Turn your back on the mouth that misleads, keep your distance from lips that deceive.	24 Bandisci da te la perversità della bocca e allontana da te la falsità delle labbra.
25 Let your eyes be fixed ahead, your gaze be straight before you.	25 I tuoi occhi guardino diritto e le tue palpebre guardino innanzi a te.
26 Let the path you tread be level and al your ways be firm.	26 Esamina il sentiero dove metti i piedi e tutte le tue vie siano controllate.
27 Turn neither to right nor to left, keep your foot clear of evil.	27 Non deviare né a destra né a sinistra, allontana il tuo piede dal male.
