Exodus 4

1 Moses replied as fol ows, 'But suppose they wil not believe me or listen to my words, and say to me,"Yahweh has not appeared to you"?'	1 Allora Mosè rispose: «Essi non mi crederanno, non ascolteranno la mia voce, anzi diranno: Il Signore non ti è apparso ».
2 Yahweh then said, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A staff,' he said.	2 E il Signore a lui: « Che è quello che hai in mano? » « Un bastone » rispose.
3 'Throw it on the ground,' said Yahweh. Moses threw it on the ground; the staff turned into a snake andMoses recoiled from it.	3 Ed il Signore disse: « Gettalo in terra ». Lo gettò, e fu cambiato in un serpente tale che Mosè fuggì.
4 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Reach out your hand and catch it by the tail.' He reached out his hand,caught it, and in his hand it turned back into a staff.	4 Ma il Signore disse: « Stendi la mano e prendilo per la coda ». Stese la mano, lo prese e gli ritornò bastone.
5 'Thus they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaacand the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.'	5 « (Or questo farai), disse Dio, affinchè essi credano che ti è apparso il Signore Dio dei loro padri, il Dio d'Abramo, il Dio d'Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe ».
6 Next, Yahweh said to him, 'Put your hand inside your tunic.' He put his hand inside his tunic, then drewit out again: and his hand was diseased, white as snow.	6 Poi il Signore disse: « Mettiti una mano in seno ». E messala che l'ebbe in seno, la cavò fuori lebbrosa, bianca come la neve.
7 Yahweh then said, 'Put your hand back inside your tunic.' He put his hand back inside his tunic andwhen he drew it out, there it was restored, just like the rest of his flesh.	7 E il Signore gli disse: « Rimetti la mano in seno ». La rimise, e la cavò di seno ritornata come l'altra carne.
8 'Even so: should they not believe you nor be convinced by the first sign, the second sign wil convincethem;	8 « Or dunque, disse Dio, se non ti crederanno e non intenderanno il linguaggio del primo segno, crederanno a quello del secondo.
9 but should they not be convinced by either of these two signs and refuse to listen to what you say, youare to take some water from the River and pour it on the ground, and the water you have taken from the Riverwil turn to blood on the dry land.'	9 Sè poi non crederanno neppure a questi due segni, e non ascolteranno la tua voce, prendi dell'acqua del fiume e versala per terra, e quanta ne avrai presa dal fiume si convertirà in sangue ».
10 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Please, my Lord, I have never been eloquent, even since you have spoken toyour servant, for I am slow and hesitant of speech.'	10 Mosè disse: « Scusami, Signore, io non sono mai stato di facile parola, e dacché tu hai parlato al tuo servo, la mia lingua è più imbarazzata e più tarda che mai ».
11 'Who gave a person a mouth?' Yahweh said to him. 'Who makes a person dumb or deaf, gives sight ormakes blind? Is it not I, Yahweh?	11 E il Signore a lui: « Chi ha fatta la bocca dell'uomo? Chi rende muto e sordo, veggente e cieco? Non son forse io?
12 Now go, I shall help you speak and instruct you what to say.'	12 Or dunque va, che parlerò io colla tua bocca, t'insegnerò io quello che dovrai dire ».
13 'Please, my Lord,' Moses replied, 'send anyone you decide to send!'	13 E Mosè disse: « Te ne scongiuro, Signore, mandane un altro più adatto! »
14 At this, Yahweh's anger kindled against Moses, and he said to him, 'There is your brother Aaron theLevite, is there not? I know that he is a good speaker. Here he comes to meet you. When he sees you, his heartwil be full of joy.	14 Allora il Signore, adirato contro Mosè, disse: « Io so che Aronne tuo fratello Levita è eloquente: ecco egli esce fuori ad incontrarti, e nel vederti si rallegrerà di cuore.
15 You will speak to him and tel him what message to give. I shal help you speak, and him too, andinstruct you what to do.	15 Parla a lui, mettigli in bocca le mie parole, ed io sarò colla tua e colla sua bocca, e vi mostrerò quel che dovrete fare.
16 He will speak to the people in your place; he wil be your mouthpiece, and you wil be as the godinspiring him.	16 Egli parlerà al popolo per te, e sarà la tua bocca: tu poi lo guiderai nelle cose che appartengono a Dio.
17 And take this staff in your hand; with this you will perform the signs.'	17 Or prendi in mano questa verga, colla quale opererai prodigi ».
18 Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, 'Give me leave to return to my kinsmen inEgypt and see if they are stil alive.' And Jethro said to Moses, 'Go in peace.'	18 E Mosè partitosi di lì andò da Ietro suo suocero, e gli disse: « Lascia che io me ne vada e torni dai miei fratelli in Egitto, a vedere se sono ancora vivi ». E Ietro gli disse: «Va in pace».
19 Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, 'Go, return to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kil you are dead.'	19 Infatti il Signore aveva detto a Mosè in Madian: « Va e torna in Egitto, perchè son morti tutti quelli che volevano toglierti la vita ».
20 So Moses took his wife and his son and, putting them on a donkey, started back for Egypt; and Mosestook the staff of God in his hand.	20 Mosè adunque prese la sua moglie e i suoi figlioli, li pose sopra un asino, e se ne tornò in Egitto, portando in mano la verga di Dio.
21 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Think of the wonders I have given you power to perform, once you are back inEgypt! You are to perform them before Pharaoh, but I myself shal make him obstinate, and he wil not let thepeople go.	21 E il Signore disse a Mosè quando ritornava in Egitto: « Cerca di fare davanti a Faraone tutti i prodigi che ho messi a tua disposizione. Io poi indurerò il suo cuore ed egli non lascerà partire il popolo,
22 You will then say to Pharaoh, "This is what Yahweh says: Israel is my first-born son.	22 E tu gli dirai: Queste cose dice il Signore: Israele è il mio figlio primo genito,
23 I told you: Let my son go and worship me; but since you refuse to let him go, well then! I shall put yourfirst-born son to death." '	23 e quindi ti ho detto: Lascia partire il mio figliolo, affinchè mi serva; ma siccome tu non hai voluto lasciarlo partire, ecco che io Deciderò il tuo figliolo primogenito ».
24 On the journey, when he had halted for the night, Yahweh encountered him and tried to kil him.	24 E mentre Mosè era in viaggio, il Signore si presentò a lui nell'albergo e voleva farlo morire.
25 Then Zipporah, taking up a flint, cut off her son's foreskin and with it touched his feet and said, 'Youare my blood-bridegroom!'	25 Ma Sefora, presa subito una pietra tagliente, circoncise il prepuzio del suo figlio, toccò i piedi di lui e disse: « Tu mi sei uno sposo di sangue ».
26 So he let him go. She said, 'Blood-bridegroom' then, with reference to the circumcision.	26 E (il Signore) lo lasciò, appena (Sefora), a motivo della circoncisione, ebbe detto: « Sposo di sangue ».
27 Yahweh said to Aaron, 'Go into the desert to meet Moses.' So he went, and met him at the mountainof God and kissed him.	27 E il Signore disse ad Aronne: « Va incontro a Mosè nel deserto ». E Aronne gli andò incontro fino al monte di Dio, e lo baciò.
28 Moses then told Aaron al that Yahweh had said when sending him and al the signs he had orderedhim to perform.	28 E Mosè riferì ad Aronne tutte le parole che il Signore l'aveva incaricato di dire, e i prodigi che gli aveva comandato di fare.
29 Moses and Aaron then went and gathered al the elders of the Israelites together,	29 E andarono insieme, e radunarono tutti gli anziani dei figlioli d'Israele.
30 and Aaron repeated everything that Yahweh had said to Moses, and in the sight of the peopleperformed the signs.	30 E Aronne riferì tutte le parole che il Signore aveva dette a Mosè. Avendo poi Mosè fatti i miracoli in presenza del popolo,
31 The people were convinced, and they rejoiced that Yahweh had visited the Israelites and seen theirmisery, and they bowed to the ground in worship.	31 questo credette, e sentito che il Signore visitava i figlioli d'Israele, perchè ne aveva veduta l'oppressione, si prostrarono e adorarono.
