Exodus 4

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Moses replied as fol ows, 'But suppose they wil not believe me or listen to my words, and say to me,"Yahweh has not appeared to you"?'	1 Mosè rispose: "E se non mi credono e non ascoltano la mia voce dicendo: "Non ti è apparso il Signore"?".
2 Yahweh then said, 'What is that in your hand?' 'A staff,' he said.	2 Il Signore gli disse: "Che cos'hai in mano?". Disse: "Un bastone".
3 'Throw it on the ground,' said Yahweh. Moses threw it on the ground; the staff turned into a snake andMoses recoiled from it.	3 Disse: "Gettalo a terra". Lo gettò a terra e diventò un serpente, davanti a cui Mosè fuggì.
4 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Reach out your hand and catch it by the tail.' He reached out his hand,caught it, and in his hand it turned back into a staff.	4 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Stendi la tua mano e prendilo per la coda". Stese la sua mano e lo tenne stretto, e nella sua palma diventò un bastone.
5 'Thus they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaacand the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.'	5 "Questo perché credano che ti è apparso il Signore, Dio dei loro padri, Dio di Abramo, Dio di Isacco e Dio di Giacobbe".
6 Next, Yahweh said to him, 'Put your hand inside your tunic.' He put his hand inside his tunic, then drewit out again: and his hand was diseased, white as snow.	6 Il Signore gli disse ancora: "Metti la tua mano nel tuo seno". Mise la mano nel suo seno: la ritrasse, ed ecco che la sua mano era ricoperta di lebbra, bianca come neve.
7 Yahweh then said, 'Put your hand back inside your tunic.' He put his hand back inside his tunic andwhen he drew it out, there it was restored, just like the rest of his flesh.	7 E disse: "Riponi la tua mano nel tuo seno". Rimise la sua mano nel suo seno: la ritrasse, ed ecco che era tornata come la sua carne.
8 'Even so: should they not believe you nor be convinced by the first sign, the second sign wil convincethem;	8 "E se non ti crederanno e non ascolteranno la voce del primo segno, crederanno alla voce del secondo.
9 but should they not be convinced by either of these two signs and refuse to listen to what you say, youare to take some water from the River and pour it on the ground, and the water you have taken from the Riverwil turn to blood on the dry land.'	9 E se non crederanno neanche a questi due segni e non ascolteranno la tua voce, prenderai dell'acqua del fiume e la verserai sull'asciutto: e l'acqua che avrai preso dal fiume diventerà sangue sull'asciutto".
10 Moses said to Yahweh, 'Please, my Lord, I have never been eloquent, even since you have spoken toyour servant, for I am slow and hesitant of speech.'	10 Mosè disse al Signore: "Quanto a me, Signore, io non sono un parlatore: né da ieri, né da ieri l'altro, né da quando parli al tuo servo, poiché io sono pesante di bocca e di lingua".
11 'Who gave a person a mouth?' Yahweh said to him. 'Who makes a person dumb or deaf, gives sight ormakes blind? Is it not I, Yahweh?	11 Il Signore gli disse: "Chi ha dato la bocca all'uomo, o chi lo rende muto o sordo, veggente o cieco? Non sono forse io, il Signore?
12 Now go, I shall help you speak and instruct you what to say.'	12 E ora va', io sarò con la tua bocca, ti istruirò su quello che dovrai dire".
13 'Please, my Lord,' Moses replied, 'send anyone you decide to send!'	13 Mosè disse: "Ti prego, Signore, manda chiunque tu voglia mandare".
14 At this, Yahweh's anger kindled against Moses, and he said to him, 'There is your brother Aaron theLevite, is there not? I know that he is a good speaker. Here he comes to meet you. When he sees you, his heartwil be full of joy.	14 L'ira del Signore si infiammò contro Mosè e disse: "Non c'è forse Aronne, tuo fratello, il levita? So che è buon parlatore: egli parlerà. Ed ecco, anzi sta venendo incontro a te: ti vedrà e gioirà in cuor suo.
15 You will speak to him and tel him what message to give. I shal help you speak, and him too, andinstruct you what to do.	15 Gli parlerai e metterai le parole nella sua bocca, e io sarò con la tua bocca e con la sua bocca, e vi istruirò su quello che dovrete fare.
16 He will speak to the people in your place; he wil be your mouthpiece, and you wil be as the godinspiring him.	16 Sarà lui a parlare per te al popolo: ed egli sarà per te la bocca e tu sarai per lui un dio.
17 And take this staff in your hand; with this you will perform the signs.'	17 E quanto a questo bastone, prendilo nella tua mano: con quello farai prodigi".
18 Moses went back to his father-in-law Jethro and said to him, 'Give me leave to return to my kinsmen inEgypt and see if they are stil alive.' And Jethro said to Moses, 'Go in peace.'	18 Mosè se ne andò, tornò da Ietro, suo suocero, e gli disse: "Lasciami andare e tornare dai miei fratelli che sono in Egitto, per vedere se sono ancora vivi". Ietro disse a Mosè: "Va' in pace".
19 Yahweh said to Moses in Midian, 'Go, return to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kil you are dead.'	19 Il Signore disse a Mosè in Madian: "Va', torna in Egitto, perché sono morti tutti gli uomini che cercavano la tua vita".
20 So Moses took his wife and his son and, putting them on a donkey, started back for Egypt; and Mosestook the staff of God in his hand.	20 Mosè prese sua moglie e i suoi figli, li fece sedere su un asino e tornò in terra d'Egitto. E Mosè prese il bastone di Dio in mano sua.
21 Yahweh said to Moses, 'Think of the wonders I have given you power to perform, once you are back inEgypt! You are to perform them before Pharaoh, but I myself shal make him obstinate, and he wil not let thepeople go.	21 Il Signore disse a Mosè: "Nel ritornare in Egitto, vedi tutti i prodigi che ho messo in mano tua: li farai davanti al faraone, ma io renderò duro il suo cuore e non manderà via il popolo.
22 You will then say to Pharaoh, "This is what Yahweh says: Israel is my first-born son.	22 E dirai al faraone: "Così ha detto il Signore: Israele è il mio figlio primogenito.
23 I told you: Let my son go and worship me; but since you refuse to let him go, well then! I shall put yourfirst-born son to death." '	23 Ti avevo detto: Manda mio figlio, perché mi serva, e non hai voluto mandarlo via. Ecco, io faccio morire il tuo figlio primogenito".
24 On the journey, when he had halted for the night, Yahweh encountered him and tried to kil him.	24 E avvenne che nel cammino, durante la sosta notturna, il Signore lo raggiunse e cercò di farlo morire.
25 Then Zipporah, taking up a flint, cut off her son's foreskin and with it touched his feet and said, 'Youare my blood-bridegroom!'	25 Zippora prese un silice e tagliò il prepuzio di suo figlio, toccò i suoi piedi e disse: "Mio sposo di sangue sei per me".
26 So he let him go. She said, 'Blood-bridegroom' then, with reference to the circumcision.	26 E si ritirò da lui. Di qui il detto "sposo di sangue" per le circoncisioni.
27 Yahweh said to Aaron, 'Go into the desert to meet Moses.' So he went, and met him at the mountainof God and kissed him.	27 Il Signore disse ad Aronne: "Va' incontro a Mosè nel deserto". Andò e lo raggiunse al monte di Dio e lo baciò.
28 Moses then told Aaron al that Yahweh had said when sending him and al the signs he had orderedhim to perform.	28 Mosè informò Aronne su tutte le parole del Signore, che lo aveva inviato, e su tutti i segni che gli aveva ordinato.
29 Moses and Aaron then went and gathered al the elders of the Israelites together,	29 Mosè ed Aronne partirono e riunirono tutti gli anziani dei figli d'Israele.
30 and Aaron repeated everything that Yahweh had said to Moses, and in the sight of the peopleperformed the signs.	30 Aronne disse tutte le parole che il Signore aveva detto a Mosè e compì i segni agli occhi del popolo.
31 The people were convinced, and they rejoiced that Yahweh had visited the Israelites and seen theirmisery, and they bowed to the ground in worship.	31 Il popolo credette, e comprese che il Signore aveva visitato i figli d'Israele e aveva visto la loro miseria. E si inginocchiarono e adorarono.
