Esther 6

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 That night the king could not sleep; he called for the Record Book, or Annals, to be brought and read tohim.	1 Quella notte il sonno fuggiva il re, ed egli ordinò che gli si portasse il libro delle memorie, le cronache, e se ne fece la lettura davanti al re.
2 They contained an account of how Mordecai had denounced Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king'seunuchs serving as Guards of the Threshold, who had plotted to assassinate King Ahasuerus.	2 Egli vi trovò scritto che Mardocheo aveva riferito al re riguardo a Bigtàn e Tères, i due eunuchi del re, appartenenti alla guardia del soglio, che volevano portare la mano contro il re Assuero,
3 'And what honour and dignity', the king asked, 'was conferred on Mordecai for this?' 'Nothing has beendone for him,' the gentlemen-in-waiting replied.	3 e domandò: "Che onore e distinzione abbiamo dato a Mardocheo per questo?". Gli risposero i giovani addetti al suo servizio: "Non gli è stato dato nulla".
4 The king then said, 'Who is outside in the antechamber?' Haman had, that very moment, entered theouter antechamber of the private apartments, to ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on the gal ows which hehad just put up for the purpose.	4 Il re allora domandò: "Chi c'è nella corte?". Proprio Aman veniva nella corte esterna della casa del re, per chiedere al re di impiccare Mardocheo al patibolo che aveva preparato per lui.
5 So the king's gentlemen-in-waiting replied, 'It is Haman out in the antechamber.' 'Bring him in,' the kingsaid,	5 I giovani cortigiani risposero al re: "Ecco, c'è Aman nella corte". Il re disse: "Venga".
6 and, as soon as Haman came in, went on to ask, 'What is the right way to treat a man whom the kingwishes to honour?' 'Whom', thought Haman, 'would the king wish to honour, if not me?'	6 Aman entrò e il re gli disse: "Che cosa si deve fare a un uomo che il re ha il piacere di onorare?". Aman pensò in cuor suo: "Chi più di me il re ha piacere di onorare?",
7 So he replied, 'If the king wishes to honour someone,	7 e rispose al re: "Per l'uomo che il re si compiace di onorare,
8 royal robes should be brought from the king's wardrobe, and a horse from the king's stable, sporting aroyal diadem on its head.	8 si facciano venire vesti regali che ha indossato il re, e un cavallo che è stato montato dal re, e sul suo capo sia una corona regale.
9 The robes and horse should be entrusted to one of the noblest of the king's officers-of-state, who shouldthen array the man whom the king wishes to honour and lead him on horseback through the city square,proclaiming before him: "This is the way a man shall be treated whom the king wishes to honour." '	9 Il vestito e il cavallo siano dati a uno dei più eminenti prìncipi del re e ne rivestano quell'uomo che il re si compiace di onorare; lo si faccia montare sul cavallo nella piazza della città e si proclami davanti a lui: "Così si fa all'uomo che il re si compiace di onorare".
10 'Hurry,' the king said to Haman, 'take the robes and the horse, and do everything you have just said toMordecai the Jew, who works at the Chancel ery. On no account leave out anything that you have mentioned.'	10 Il re disse ad Aman: "Presto, prendi il vestito e il cavallo di cui hai parlato, e fa' così a Mardocheo, l'ebreo che siede alla porta del re. Non tralasciare nulla di quello che hai detto".
11 So taking the robes and the horse, Haman arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through thecity square, proclaiming before him: 'This is the way a man shal be treated whom the king wishes to honour.'	11 Aman prese il vestito e il cavallo, rivestì Mardocheo, lo fece montare sul cavallo nella piazza della città e proclamò davanti a lui: "Così si fa all'uomo che il re si compiace di onorare".
12 After this Mordecai returned to the Chancel ery, while Haman went hurrying home in dejection andcovering his face.	12 Mardocheo tornò alla porta del re e Aman si affrettò a casa sua, afflitto e con la testa velata;
13 He told his wife Zeresh and al his friends what had just happened. His wife Zeresh and his friendssaid, 'You are beginning to fal , and Mordecai to rise; if he is Jewish, you will never get the better of him. Withhim against you, your fal is certain.'	13 raccontò a Zeres, sua moglie, e ai suoi fedeli tutto quello che era successo. I suoi saggi e Zeres, sua moglie, gli dissero: "Se Mardocheo, davanti a cui hai cominciato ad abbassarti, è della stirpe degli Ebrei, non potrai resistergli, ma tu cadrai davanti a lui".
14 While they were still talking, the king's officers arrived in a hurry to escort Haman to the banquet thatEsther was giving.	14 Non avevano ancora finito di parlare che arrivarono gli eunuchi del re e si affrettarono a condurre Aman al banchetto che aveva preparato Ester.
