1 That night the king could not sleep; he called for the Record Book, or Annals, to be brought and read tohim.	1 Il re passò quella notte senza prender riposo, e comandò, che se gli portasser le storie, e gli annali del tempo passato: e mentre questi leggevansi in sua presenza,
2 They contained an account of how Mordecai had denounced Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king'seunuchs serving as Guards of the Threshold, who had plotted to assassinate King Ahasuerus.	2 Si venne a quel luogo, dove stava scritto, come Mardocheo avea rivelata al re la congiura di Bagathan, e di Thares eunuchi, che volevano uccidere il re Assuero.
3 'And what honour and dignity', the king asked, 'was conferred on Mordecai for this?' 'Nothing has beendone for him,' the gentlemen-in-waiting replied.	3 Or sentito ciò, disse il re: Qual premio, od onore ha ottenuto Mardocheo per tanta fedeltà? E i servitori, e i cortigiani suoi gli dissero: Ei non ha avuto ricompensa veruna.
4 The king then said, 'Who is outside in the antechamber?' Haman had, that very moment, entered theouter antechamber of the private apartments, to ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on the gal ows which hehad just put up for the purpose.	4 E il re immediatamente disse: Chi è nell'atrio? Or Aman era entrato nell'atrio interiore della casa reale per suggerire al re, che desse ordine di far appiccar Mardocheo al patibolo già preparato.
5 So the king's gentlemen-in-waiting replied, 'It is Haman out in the antechamber.' 'Bring him in,' the kingsaid,	5 Risposero i servi: Aman è nell'anticamera. E il re disse: Venga.
6 and, as soon as Haman came in, went on to ask, 'What is the right way to treat a man whom the kingwishes to honour?' 'Whom', thought Haman, 'would the king wish to honour, if not me?'	6 E quand'ei fu entrato, gli disse: Che dee farsi ad un uomo, cui il re vuole onorare? E Aman pensando dentro di se, e credendo, che non altri, che se, volesse il re onorare,
7 So he replied, 'If the king wishes to honour someone,	7 Rispose: Un uomo, che il re vuole onorare,
8 royal robes should be brought from the king's wardrobe, and a horse from the king's stable, sporting aroyal diadem on its head.	8 Dee vestirsi di abito reale, e farsi, salire sopra un cavallo, il quale sia stato e cavalcato dal re, e dee avere in testa il diadema reale,
9 The robes and horse should be entrusted to one of the noblest of the king's officers-of-state, who shouldthen array the man whom the king wishes to honour and lead him on horseback through the city square,proclaiming before him: "This is the way a man shall be treated whom the king wishes to honour." '	9 E il primo de' principi reali, e dei signori grandi addestri il suo cavallo, e andando per la piazza della città gridi, e dica: Così sarà onorato colui, che il re vuole onorare.
10 'Hurry,' the king said to Haman, 'take the robes and the horse, and do everything you have just said toMordecai the Jew, who works at the Chancel ery. On no account leave out anything that you have mentioned.'	10 E il re gli disse: Va tosto, e prendi il manto reale, e il cavallo, e quello che hai detto, fallo al Giudeo Mardocheo, che siede dinanzi alle porte del palazzo: guarda di non omettere nulla di quello, che hai detto.
11 So taking the robes and the horse, Haman arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through thecity square, proclaiming before him: 'This is the way a man shal be treated whom the king wishes to honour.'	11 Aman adunque prese il manto, e il cavallo, e fatto rivestir Mardocheo sulla piazza della città, e fattolo salire a cavallo, gli andava innanzi, e gridava: Di tale onore è degno chiunque vorrà il re, che sia onorato.
12 After this Mordecai returned to the Chancel ery, while Haman went hurrying home in dejection andcovering his face.	12 Indi Mardocheo tornò alla porta del palazzo, e Aman si affrettò di andare a casa sua piangendo, e col capo coperto:
13 He told his wife Zeresh and al his friends what had just happened. His wife Zeresh and his friendssaid, 'You are beginning to fal , and Mordecai to rise; if he is Jewish, you will never get the better of him. Withhim against you, your fal is certain.'	13 E raccontò a Zares sua moglie, ed agli amici tutto quello, che gli era avvenuto. Ma i sapienti, da' quali prendeva consiglio, e la moglie gli risposero: Se Mardocheo, a cui hai principiato a star sotto, è di stirpe Giudea, non potrai contrastare con lui, ma andrai per terra sugli occhi di lui.
14 While they were still talking, the king's officers arrived in a hurry to escort Haman to the banquet thatEsther was giving.	14 Mentr'ei parlava tuttora, vennero gli eunuchi del re, e lo obbligarono di andar subito al convito preparato dalla regina.
