Esther 6

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 That night the king could not sleep; he called for the Record Book, or Annals, to be brought and read tohim.	1 Aquella misma noche, no pudiendo el rey conciliar el sueño, mandó que trajeran y leyeran en su presencia el libro de las Memorias, o Crónica.
2 They contained an account of how Mordecai had denounced Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king'seunuchs serving as Guards of the Threshold, who had plotted to assassinate King Ahasuerus.	2 Estaba allí, puesta por escrito, la denuncia que Mardoqueo había hecho contra Bigtán y Teres, los dos eunucos del rey, guardianes del umbral, que habían intentado poner las manos sobre el rey Asuero.
3 'And what honour and dignity', the king asked, 'was conferred on Mordecai for this?' 'Nothing has beendone for him,' the gentlemen-in-waiting replied.	3 Preguntó el rey: «¿Qué honor o dignidad se concedió por esto a Mardoqueo?» Los jóvenes del servicio del rey dijeron: «No se hizo nada en su favor».
4 The king then said, 'Who is outside in the antechamber?' Haman had, that very moment, entered theouter antechamber of the private apartments, to ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on the gal ows which hehad just put up for the purpose.	4 Continuó el rey: «Quién está en el atrio?» - Justamente entonces llegaba Amán al atrio exterior de la casa del rey, para pedir al rey que colgaran a Mardoqueo en la horca que él había hecho levantar -.
5 So the king's gentlemen-in-waiting replied, 'It is Haman out in the antechamber.' 'Bring him in,' the kingsaid,	5 Los jóvenes del servicio del rey le respondieron: «Es Amán el que está en el atrio». Dijo el rey: «Que entre».
6 and, as soon as Haman came in, went on to ask, 'What is the right way to treat a man whom the kingwishes to honour?' 'Whom', thought Haman, 'would the king wish to honour, if not me?'	6 Entró, pues, Amán, y el rey le preguntó: «¿Qué debe hacerse al hombre a quien el rey quiere honrar?» Amán pensó: «¿A quién ha de querer honrar el rey, sino a mí?»
7 So he replied, 'If the king wishes to honour someone,	7 Respondió, pues, Amán al rey: «Para el hombre a quien el rey quiere honrar,
8 royal robes should be brought from the king's wardrobe, and a horse from the king's stable, sporting aroyal diadem on its head.	8 deben tomarse regias vestiduras que el rey haya vestido, y un caballo que el rey haya montado, y en cuya cabeza se haya puesto una diadema real.
9 The robes and horse should be entrusted to one of the noblest of the king's officers-of-state, who shouldthen array the man whom the king wishes to honour and lead him on horseback through the city square,proclaiming before him: "This is the way a man shall be treated whom the king wishes to honour." '	9 Deben darse los vestidos, y el caballo a uno de los servidores más principales del rey, para que vista al hombre a quien el rey desea honrar; y le hará cabalgar sobre el caballo por la plaza mayor de la ciudad gritando delante de él: «¡Así se trata al hombre a quien el rey quiere honrar!»
10 'Hurry,' the king said to Haman, 'take the robes and the horse, and do everything you have just said toMordecai the Jew, who works at the Chancel ery. On no account leave out anything that you have mentioned.'	10 Dijo el rey a Amán: «Toma al momento vestidos y caballo, tal como lo has dicho, y hazlo así con el judío Mardoqueo, que está en la Puerta Real. No dejes de cumplir ni un solo detalle».
11 So taking the robes and the horse, Haman arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through thecity square, proclaiming before him: 'This is the way a man shal be treated whom the king wishes to honour.'	11 Tomó Amán los vestidos y el caballo, vistió a Mardoqueo y le hizo cabalgar por la plaza mayor de la ciudad, gritando delante de él: «¡Así se trata al hombre a quien el rey quiere honrar!»
12 After this Mordecai returned to the Chancel ery, while Haman went hurrying home in dejection andcovering his face.	12 Después Mardoqueo se quedó en la Puerta Real, mientras Amán regresaba precipitadamente a su casa, entristecido y con la cabeza encubierta.
13 He told his wife Zeresh and al his friends what had just happened. His wife Zeresh and his friendssaid, 'You are beginning to fal , and Mordecai to rise; if he is Jewish, you will never get the better of him. Withhim against you, your fal is certain.'	13 Contó Amán a su mujer Zeres y a todos sus amigos cuanto había pasado; sus consejeros y su mujer Zeres le dijeron: «Si Mardoqueo, ante el que has comenzado a declinar, pertenece al linaje de los judíos, no podrás vencerle, sino que sin remedio caerás ante él».
14 While they were still talking, the king's officers arrived in a hurry to escort Haman to the banquet thatEsther was giving.	14 Estaban aún hablándole cuando llegaron los eunucos del rey y llevaron a Amán rápidamente al banquete preparado por Ester.
