NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 That night the king could not sleep; he called for the Record Book, or Annals, to be brought and read tohim.	1 In quella notte, avendo il re smarrito il sonno, comandò che si portasse il libro delle memorie de’ giornali; e quelle furono lette in presenza del re.
2 They contained an account of how Mordecai had denounced Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king'seunuchs serving as Guards of the Threshold, who had plotted to assassinate King Ahasuerus.	2 Ed in esse fu trovato scritto, che Mardocheo avea rivelata l’impresa di Bigtana, e di Teres, due eunuchi del re, de’ guardiani della soglia, i quali cercavano di metter la mano addosso al re Assuero.
3 'And what honour and dignity', the king asked, 'was conferred on Mordecai for this?' 'Nothing has beendone for him,' the gentlemen-in-waiting replied.	3 Allora il re disse: In qual maniera è stato Mardocheo onorato e magnificato per questo? E i famigli del re che gli ministravano dissero: Non gli è stato fatto nulla
4 The king then said, 'Who is outside in the antechamber?' Haman had, that very moment, entered theouter antechamber of the private apartments, to ask the king to have Mordecai hanged on the gal ows which hehad just put up for the purpose.	4 E il re disse: Chi è nel cortile? Or Haman era venuto nel cortile difuori del palazzo del re, per dire al re che comandasse che Mardocheo fosse appiccato al legno ch’egli avea apprestato per lui.
5 So the king's gentlemen-in-waiting replied, 'It is Haman out in the antechamber.' 'Bring him in,' the kingsaid,	5 Ed i famigli del re gli dissero: Ecco Haman, che sta aspettando nel cortile. E il re disse: Fate ch’egli entri.
6 and, as soon as Haman came in, went on to ask, 'What is the right way to treat a man whom the kingwishes to honour?' 'Whom', thought Haman, 'would the king wish to honour, if not me?'	6 Haman adunque entrò, e il re gli disse: Che si converrebbe egli fare ad un uomo che il re volesse onorare? Ed Haman disse fra sè stesso: A cui vorrebbe il re fare onore, se non a me?
7 So he replied, 'If the king wishes to honour someone,	7 Ed Haman disse al re: Se il re volesse onorare alcuno,
8 royal robes should be brought from the king's wardrobe, and a horse from the king's stable, sporting aroyal diadem on its head.	8 si converrebbero recare i vestimenti reali, de’ quali il re si veste, e menare il cavallo, il quale il re cavalca, e metter la benda reale sopra la testa di esso.
9 The robes and horse should be entrusted to one of the noblest of the king's officers-of-state, who shouldthen array the man whom the king wishes to honour and lead him on horseback through the city square,proclaiming before him: "This is the way a man shall be treated whom the king wishes to honour." '	9 E que’ vestimenti, e quel cavallo, si converrebbero dare in mano di un personaggio d’infra i principi del re, d’infra i baroni; e colui il quale il re volesse onorare, dovrebbe esser vestito di que’ vestimenti, e farsi cavalcar quel cavallo per le strade della città; e si converrebbe gridar davanti a lui: Così deve farsi a colui, il quale il re vuole onorare.
10 'Hurry,' the king said to Haman, 'take the robes and the horse, and do everything you have just said toMordecai the Jew, who works at the Chancel ery. On no account leave out anything that you have mentioned.'	10 Allora il re disse ad Haman: Prendi prestamente i vestimenti, e il cavallo, come tu hai detto, e fa’ così a Mardocheo, quel Giudeo che siede alla porta del re; non tralasciar nulla di tutto ciò che tu hai detto.
11 So taking the robes and the horse, Haman arrayed Mordecai and led him on horseback through thecity square, proclaiming before him: 'This is the way a man shal be treated whom the king wishes to honour.'	11 Haman adunque prese i vestimenti, e il cavallo, e vestì Mardocheo, e lo fece cavalcar per le strade della città; e gridava davanti a lui: Così deve farsi a colui che il re vuole onorare
12 After this Mordecai returned to the Chancel ery, while Haman went hurrying home in dejection andcovering his face.	12 Poi Mardocheo ritornò alla porta del re; ed Haman si ritrasse ratto in casa sua, dolente, e col capo coperto.
13 He told his wife Zeresh and al his friends what had just happened. His wife Zeresh and his friendssaid, 'You are beginning to fal , and Mordecai to rise; if he is Jewish, you will never get the better of him. Withhim against you, your fal is certain.'	13 Ed Haman raccontò a Zeres, sua moglie, ed a tutti i suoi amici, tutto ciò che gli era avvenuto. E i suoi savi, e Zeres, sua moglie, gli dissero: Se Mardocheo, davanti al quale tu sei cominciato a scadere, è del legnaggio de’ Giudei, tu non potrai sopraffarlo; anzi del tutto tu caderai davanti a lui.
14 While they were still talking, the king's officers arrived in a hurry to escort Haman to the banquet thatEsther was giving.	14 MENTRE costoro parlavano ancora con lui, giunsero degli eunuchi del re, e ne menarono prestamente Haman al convito che Ester avea apparecchiato
