NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 It was the twelfth year of Nebuchadnezzar who reigned over the Assyrians in the great city of Nineveh.Arphaxad was then reigning over the Medes in Ecbatana.	1 Nell’anno dodicesimo del regno di Nabucodònosor, che era il re degli Assiri nella grande città di Ninive, Arfacsàd regnava sui Medi a Ecbàtana.
2 He surrounded this city with walls of dressed stones three cubits thick and six cubits long, making therampart seventy cubits high and fifty cubits wide.	2 Questi edificò intorno a Ecbàtana mura con pietre tagliate della misura di tre cubiti di larghezza e sei cubiti di lunghezza, portando l’altezza del muro a settanta cubiti e la larghezza a cinquanta cubiti.
3 At the gates he placed towers one hundred cubits high and, at the foundations, sixty cubits wide,	3 Alle porte della città costruì le torri murali alte cento cubiti e larghe alla base sessanta cubiti;
4 the gates themselves being seventy cubits high and forty wide to al ow his forces to march out in a bodyand his infantry to parade freely.	4 costruì le porte portandole fino all’altezza di settanta cubiti: la larghezza di ciascuna era di quaranta cubiti, per il passaggio del suo esercito e l’uscita in parata dei suoi fanti.
5 About this time King Nebuchadnezzar gave battle to King Arphaxad in the great plain lying in the territoryof Ragae.	5 In quel tempo il re Nabucodònosor mosse guerra al re Arfacsàd nella grande pianura, cioè nella piana che si trova nel territorio di Ragàu.
6 Supporting him were al the peoples from the highlands, all from the Euphrates and Tigris andHydaspes, and those from the plains who were subject to Arioch, king of the Elymaeans. Thus many nations hadmustered to take part in the battle of the Cheleoudites.	6 A fianco di costui si schierarono tutti gli abitanti delle montagne e quelli della zona dell’Eufrate, del Tigri e dell’Idaspe e gli abitanti della pianura soggetta ad Arioc, re degli Elamiti. Così molte genti si trovarono adunate in aiuto dei figli di Cheleùd.
7 Nebuchadnezzar king of the Assyrians sent a message to al the inhabitants of Persia, to all theinhabitants of the western countries, Cilicia, Damascus, Lebanon, Anti-Lebanon, to al those along the coast,	7 Allora Nabucodònosor, re degli Assiri, spedì messaggeri a tutti gli abitanti della Persia e a tutti gli abitanti delle regioni occidentali: a quelli della Cilicia e di Damasco, del Libano e dell’Antilibano, a tutti gli abitanti della fascia litoranea
8 to the peoples of Carmel, Gilead, Upper Galilee, the great plain of Esdraelon,	8 e a quelli che appartenevano alle popolazioni del Carmelo e di Gàlaad, della Galilea superiore e della grande pianura di Èsdrelon,
9 to the people of Samaria and its outlying towns, to those beyond Jordan, as far away as Jerusalem,Bethany, Chelous, Kadesh, the river of Egypt, Tahpanhes, Rameses and the whole territory of Goshen,	9 a tutti gli abitanti della Samaria e delle sue città, a quelli che stavano oltre il Giordano fino a Gerusalemme, Batane, Chelus, Kades e al torrente d’Egitto, nonché a Tafni, a Ramesse e a tutto il paese di Gessen,
10 beyond Tanis too and Memphis, and to al the inhabitants of Egypt as far as the frontiers of Ethiopia.	10 sino alla regione al di sopra di Tanis e Menfi, e a tutti gli abitanti dell’Egitto sino ai confini dell’Etiopia.
11 But the inhabitants of these countries ignored the summons of Nebuchadnezzar king of the Assyriansand did not ral y to him to make war. They were not afraid of him, since in their view he appeared isolated.Hence they sent his ambassadors back with nothing achieved and in disgrace.	11 Ma gli abitanti di tutte queste regioni disprezzarono l’invito di Nabucodònosor, re degli Assiri, e non volevano seguirlo nella guerra, perché non avevano alcun timore di lui, che agli occhi loro era come un uomo qualunque. Essi rimandarono i suoi messaggeri a mani vuote e con disonore.
12 Nebuchadnezzar was furious with al these countries. He swore by his throne and kingdom to takerevenge on al the territories of Cilicia, Damascus and Syria, of the Moabites and of the Ammonites, of Judaeaand Egypt as far as the limits of the two seas, and to ravage them with the sword.	12 Allora Nabucodònosor si accese di sdegno terribile contro tutte queste regioni e giurò per il suo trono e per il suo regno che si sarebbe vendicato, devastando con la spada i paesi della Cilicia, di Damasco e della Siria, tutte le popolazioni della terra di Moab, gli Ammoniti, tutta la Giudea e tutti gli abitanti dell’Egitto fino al limite dei due mari.
13 In the seventeenth year, he gave battle with his whole army to King Arphaxad and in this battledefeated him. He routed Arphaxad's entire army and al his cavalry and chariots;	13 Quindi marciò con l’esercito contro il re Arfacsàd nel diciassettesimo anno, e prevalse su di lui in battaglia, travolgendo l’esercito di Arfacsàd con tutta la sua cavalleria e tutti i suoi carri.
14 he occupied his towns and advanced on Ecbatana; he seized its towers and plundered its marketplaces, reducing its former magnificence to a mockery.	14 S’impadronì delle sue città, giunse fino a Ecbàtana e ne espugnò le torri, ne saccheggiò le piazze e ridusse il suo splendore in ludibrio.
15 He later captured Arphaxad in the mountains of Ragae and, thrusting him through with his spears,destroyed him once and for al .	15 Poi sorprese Arfacsàd sui monti di Ragàu, lo trafisse con le sue lance e lo tolse di mezzo per sempre.
16 He then retired with his troops and al who had joined forces with him: a vast horde of armed men.Then he and his army gave themselves up to carefree feasting for a hundred and twenty days.	16 Fece quindi ritorno a Ninive con tutto l’insieme delle sue truppe, che era una moltitudine infinita di guerrieri, e si fermò là, egli e il suo esercito, oziando e banchettando per centoventi giorni.
