Tobit 6

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 And she dried her tears.	1 El joven partió con el ángel, y el perro los seguía. Caminaron los dos y, al llegar la primera noche, acamparon a orillas del río Tigris.
2 The boy left with the angel, and the dog fol owed behind. The two walked on, and when the first eveningcame they camped beside the Tigris.	2 El joven bajó a lavarse los pies en el río, y de pronto saltó del agua un gran pez que intentó devorarle el pie. El joven gritó,
3 The boy had gone down to the river to wash his feet, when a great fish leapt out of the water and triedto swal ow his foot. The boy gave a shout	3 pero el ángel le dijo: «¡Agárralo y no lo dejes escapar!». Entonces él se apoderó del pez y lo sacó a tierra.
4 and the angel said, 'Catch the fish; do not let it go.' The boy mastered the fish and pulled it onto thebank.	4 El ángel le dijo: «Abrelo, sácale la hiel, el corazón y el hígado, y colócalos aparte; luego tira las entrañas. Porque la hiel, el corazón y el hígado son útiles como remedios».
5 The angel said, 'Cut it open; take out gall, heart and liver; set these aside and throw the entrails away,for gal and heart and liver have curative properties.'	5 El joven abrió el pez, y le sacó la hiel, el corazón y el hígado. Asó una parte del pez y la comió, y guardó la otra parte después de haberla salado.
6 The boy cut the fish open and took out gal and heart and liver. He fried part of the fish for his meal andkept some for salting. Then they walked on again together until they were nearly in Media.	6 Luego los dos juntos continuaron su camino hasta llegar cerca de Media.
7 Then the boy asked the angel this question, 'Brother Azarias, what can the fish's heart, liver and galcure?'	7 Entre tanto, el joven preguntó al ángel: «Hermano Azarías, ¿qué clase de remedio hay en el corazón, en el hígado y en le hiel del pez?».
8 He replied, 'You burn the fish's heart and liver, and their smoke is used in the case of a man or womanplagued by a demon or evil spirit; any such affliction disappears for good, leaving no trace.	8 El ángel le respondió: «Si se quema el corazón o el hígado del pez delante de un hombre o de una mujer atacados por un demonio o espíritu maligno, cesan los ataques y desaparecen para siempre.
9 As regards the gal , this is used as an eye ointment for anyone having white spots on his eyes; afterusing it, you have only to blow on the spots to cure them.'	9 En cuanto a la hiel, sirve para ungir los ojos afectados de manchas blancas: basta con soplar sobre esas manchas para que se curen».
10 They entered Media and had nearly reached Ecbatana	10 Cuando entraron en Media y ya se acercaban a Ecbátana,
11 when Raphael said to the boy, 'Brother Tobias.' 'Yes?' he replied. The angel went on, 'Tonight we areto stay with Raguel, who is a kinsman of yours. He has a daughter cal ed Sarah,	11 Rafael dijo al joven: «¡Hermano Tobías!». Este le preguntó: «¿Qué quieres?». El ángel continuó: «Es necesario que pasemos esta noche en casa de Ragüel; él es pariente tuyo y tiene una hija que se llama Sara.
12 but apart from Sarah he has no other son or daughter. Now you are her next of kin; she belongs to youbefore anyone else and you may claim her father's inheritance. She is a thoughtful, courageous and very lovelygirl, and her father loves her dearly.	12 Ella es su única hija, Por ser tú el pariente más cercano, tienes más derecho sobre ella que todos los demás, y es justo que recibas la herencia de su padre. Es una joven seria, decidida y muy hermosa, y su padre es una persona honrada».
13 You have the right to marry her. Listen, brother; this very evening I shal speak about the girl to herfather and arrange for her to be betrothed to you, and when we come back from Rhages we can celebrate themarriage. I assure you, Raguel has no right whatever to refuse you or to betroth her to anyone else. That wouldbe asking for death, as prescribed in the Book of Moses, once he is aware that kinship gives you the pre-eminent right to marry his daughter. So listen, brother. This very evening we shal speak about the girl and askfor her hand in marriage. When we come back from Rhages we shal fetch her and take her home with us.'	13 Y añadió: «Tú tienes el derecho de casarte con ella. Escúchame, hermano: esta misma noche, yo hablaré de ella a su padre para que él la haga tu prometida; y cuando volvamos de Ragués, celebraremos la boda. Yo sé que Ragüel no podría negártela ni comprometerla con otro, sin hacerse reo de muerte, conforme a lo prescrito en el Libro de Moisés. El sabe, en efecto, que a ti te corresponde tomar por esposa a su hija antes de cualquier otro. Por eso, óyeme, bien, hermano: esta noche, hablaremos de la joven y la pediremos en matrimonio. Cuando volvamos de Ragués, la tomaremos y la llevaremos con nosotros a tu casa».
14 Tobias replied to Raphael, 'Brother Azarias, I have been told that she has already been given inmarriage seven times and that each time her bridegroom has died in the bridal room. He died the same night ashe entered her room; and I have heard people say it was a demon that killed them,	14 Tobías dijo a Rafael: «Hermano Azarías, he oído decir que ella se ha casado siete veces, y que todos sus maridos han muerto la noche misma de la boda, apenas se acercaban a ella. También he oído decir que es un demonio el que los mataba.
15 and this makes me afraid. To her the demon does no harm because he loves her, but as soon as aman tries to approach her, he kil s him. I am my father's only son, and I have no wish to die. I do not want myfather and mother to grieve over me for the rest of their lives; they have no other son to bury them.'	15 Yo tengo miedo, ya que a ella no le hace ningún mal, porque la ama, pero mata a todo el que intenta tener relaciones con ella. Y soy hijo único, y si muero, mi padre y mi madre bajarán a la tumba llenos de dolor por mi causa. Y ellos no tienen otro hijo que les dé sepultura».
16 The angel said, 'Have you forgotten your father's advice? After all, he urged you to choose a wife fromyour father's family. Listen then, brother. Do not worry about the demon; take her. This very evening, I promise,she wil be given you as your wife.	16 El ángel le dijo: «¿No recuerdas que tu padre te recomendó casarte con una mujer de tu familia? Escúchame bien, hermano. No te preocupes de ese demonio y cásate con ella. Estoy seguro de que esta noche te la darán por esposa.
17 Then once you are in the bridal room, take the heart and liver of the fish and lay a little of it on theburning incense. The reek will rise,	17 Pero eso sí, cuando entres en la habitación, toma una parte del hígado y del corazón del pez, y colócalos sobre el brasero de los perfumes. Entonces se extenderá el olor, y cuando el demonio lo huela, huirá y nunca más aparecerá a su lado.
18 the demon wil smel it and flee, and there is no danger that he wil ever be found near the girl again.Then, before you sleep together, first stand up, both of you, and pray. Ask the Lord of heaven to grant you hisgrace and protection. Do not be afraid; she was destined for you from the beginning, and you are the one tosave her. She will fol ow you, and I pledge my word she wil give you children who will be like brothers to you. Donot worry.' And when Tobias heard Raphael say this, when he understood that Sarah was his sister, akinswoman of his father's family, he fel so deeply in love with her that he could no longer cal his heart his own.	18 Antes de tener relaciones con ella, levántense primero los dos para orar y supliquen al Señor del cielo que tenga misericordia de ustedes y los salve. No tengas miedo, porque ella está destinada para ti desde siempre y eres tú el que debe salvarla. Ella te seguirá, y yo presiento que te dará hijos que serán para ti como hermanos. No te preocupes».
	19 Cuando Tobías oyó decir esto a Rafael y supo que Sara era hermana suya, de la misma descendencia que la familia de su padre, la amó intensamente y se enamoró de ella.
