1 And she dried her tears.	1 Elle cessa de pleurer.
2 The boy left with the angel, and the dog fol owed behind. The two walked on, and when the first eveningcame they camped beside the Tigris.	2 Le jeune homme partit avec l’ange et le chien suivait derrière. Ils marchaient tous les deux et, au soir du premier jour, ils campèrent le long du Tigre.
3 The boy had gone down to the river to wash his feet, when a great fish leapt out of the water and triedto swal ow his foot. The boy gave a shout	3 Le jeune homme descendit au fleuve pour se laver les pieds, mais un gros poisson sauta de l’eau et faillit lui dévorer le pied. Le garçon se mit à crier,
4 and the angel said, 'Catch the fish; do not let it go.' The boy mastered the fish and pulled it onto thebank.	4 mais l’ange lui dit: “Attrape le poisson, ne le lâche pas!” Le jeune homme se rendit maître du poisson et le tira sur la rive.
5 The angel said, 'Cut it open; take out gall, heart and liver; set these aside and throw the entrails away,for gal and heart and liver have curative properties.'	5 L’ange lui dit: “Ouvre-le, enlève le fiel, le cœur et le foie et mets-les de côté avant de jeter les entrailles. En effet le fiel, le cœur et le foie, sont des remèdes bien utiles.”
6 The boy cut the fish open and took out gal and heart and liver. He fried part of the fish for his meal andkept some for salting. Then they walked on again together until they were nearly in Media.	6 Le jeune ouvrit le poisson, il enleva le fiel, le cœur et le foie. Il fit cuire une partie du poisson pour le repas et garda le reste pour le saler. Ils continuèrent ensuite tous les deux leur route jusqu’en Médie.
7 Then the boy asked the angel this question, 'Brother Azarias, what can the fish's heart, liver and galcure?'	7 Alors le jeune homme interrogea l’ange: “Mon frère Azarias, quel remède y a-t-il donc dans le cœur, le foie et le fiel du poisson?”
8 He replied, 'You burn the fish's heart and liver, and their smoke is used in the case of a man or womanplagued by a demon or evil spirit; any such affliction disappears for good, leaving no trace.	8 Il répondit: “Le cœur et le foie du poisson, on les fait fumer devant l’homme ou la femme qui sont tourmentés par un démon ou un esprit mauvais, et tout malaise disparaît complètement sans plus laisser de trace.
9 As regards the gal , this is used as an eye ointment for anyone having white spots on his eyes; afterusing it, you have only to blow on the spots to cure them.'	9 Le fiel sert pour guérir les yeux lorsque l’on a des taches sur l’œil. Il suffit alors de souffler sur les taches pour les faire partir.”
10 They entered Media and had nearly reached Ecbatana	10 Ils étaient entrés en Médie et s’approchaient déjà d’Ekbatane,
11 when Raphael said to the boy, 'Brother Tobias.' 'Yes?' he replied. The angel went on, 'Tonight we areto stay with Raguel, who is a kinsman of yours. He has a daughter cal ed Sarah,	11 lorsque Raphaël dit au jeune homme: “Mon frère Tobie!” Il répondit: “Qu’y a-t-il?” L’ange lui dit: “Ce soir nous irons loger chez ton parent Ragouël; il est de ta famille et il a une fille appelée Sarra.
12 but apart from Sarah he has no other son or daughter. Now you are her next of kin; she belongs to youbefore anyone else and you may claim her father's inheritance. She is a thoughtful, courageous and very lovelygirl, and her father loves her dearly.	12 À part Sarra, il n’a ni garçon ni fille, et tu es son plus proche parent. Elle te revient donc de droit et tu as droit aussi sur l’héritage de son père. C’est une fille bien, courageuse, très gentille et son père l’aime beaucoup.”
13 You have the right to marry her. Listen, brother; this very evening I shal speak about the girl to herfather and arrange for her to be betrothed to you, and when we come back from Rhages we can celebrate themarriage. I assure you, Raguel has no right whatever to refuse you or to betroth her to anyone else. That wouldbe asking for death, as prescribed in the Book of Moses, once he is aware that kinship gives you the pre-eminent right to marry his daughter. So listen, brother. This very evening we shal speak about the girl and askfor her hand in marriage. When we come back from Rhages we shal fetch her and take her home with us.'	13 L’ange continua: “C’est à toi de l’épouser. Écoute-moi, frère! Dès ce soir je parlerai de la jeune fille à son père, pour qu’elle soit tout de suite ta fiancée, et quand nous reviendrons de Rhagès, nous ferons le mariage. Je t’assure que Ragouël n’a absolument pas le droit de te la refuser ou de la donner à un autre. Selon la loi de Moïse, il mériterait la mort du moment qu’il sait que tu as la priorité sur n’importe qui dans la famille pour épouser sa fille. Donc frère, fais ce que je te dis. Dès ce soir nous parlerons de la jeune fille et nous ferons la demande en mariage; et lorsque nous rentrerons de Rhagès, nous la reprendrons et nous l’emmènerons avec nous dans ta famille.”
14 Tobias replied to Raphael, 'Brother Azarias, I have been told that she has already been given inmarriage seven times and that each time her bridegroom has died in the bridal room. He died the same night ashe entered her room; and I have heard people say it was a demon that killed them,	14 Tobie répondit à Raphaël: “Frère Azarias, on m’a dit qu’elle a déjà été mariée sept fois et que l’un après l’autre ses maris sont morts la nuit même des noces, au moment où ils s’approchaient d’elle. Et j’ai entendu dire que c’était un démon qui les tuait.
15 and this makes me afraid. To her the demon does no harm because he loves her, but as soon as aman tries to approach her, he kil s him. I am my father's only son, and I have no wish to die. I do not want myfather and mother to grieve over me for the rest of their lives; they have no other son to bury them.'	15 J’ai peur! À elle, le démon ne lui fait rien parce qu’il l’aime, mais celui qui veut s’approcher d’elle, il le tue. Or, je suis le fils unique de mon père: me vois-tu mourir et que mon père et ma mère restent en deuil jusqu’à la tombe? Ils n’auront pas d’autre fils pour les enterrer.”
16 The angel said, 'Have you forgotten your father's advice? After all, he urged you to choose a wife fromyour father's family. Listen then, brother. Do not worry about the demon; take her. This very evening, I promise,she wil be given you as your wife.	16 L’ange répondit: “Oublies-tu les recommandations de ton père? Il t’a pourtant recommandé de prendre une femme dans la famille de ton père. Alors, écoute-moi, frère, ne t’inquiète pas pour ce démon, prends-la; je te promets que dès ce soir elle sera ta femme.
17 Then once you are in the bridal room, take the heart and liver of the fish and lay a little of it on theburning incense. The reek will rise,	17 “Mais lorsque tu seras entré dans la chambre, prends le foie et le cœur du poisson et pose-les sur les braises de l’encens. L’odeur se répandra,
18 the demon wil smel it and flee, and there is no danger that he wil ever be found near the girl again.Then, before you sleep together, first stand up, both of you, and pray. Ask the Lord of heaven to grant you hisgrace and protection. Do not be afraid; she was destined for you from the beginning, and you are the one tosave her. She will fol ow you, and I pledge my word she wil give you children who will be like brothers to you. Donot worry.' And when Tobias heard Raphael say this, when he understood that Sarah was his sister, akinswoman of his father's family, he fel so deeply in love with her that he could no longer cal his heart his own.	18 et dès que le démon la sentira, il prendra la fuite. Je t’assure qu’on ne le reverra plus jamais rôder autour de la jeune fille. Puis, au moment de vous unir, levez-vous d’abord tous les deux pour prier: demandez au Seigneur du Ciel de vous donner sa grâce et sa protection. N’aie pas peur, depuis toujours elle t’a été réservée, et c’est toi qui la sauveras. Elle te suivra et je te promets qu’elle te donnera des enfants qui seront pour toi comme des frères. Ne te fais pas des idées noires!”
	19 En entendant les paroles de Raphaël, Tobie comprit que Sarra était sa sœur, une parente de la famille de son père et il l’aima tellement qu’il ne cessait plus de penser à elle.
