Tobit 6

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 And she dried her tears.	1 Y ella dejó de llorar.
2 The boy left with the angel, and the dog fol owed behind. The two walked on, and when the first eveningcame they camped beside the Tigris.	2 Partió el muchacho en compañía del ángel, y el perro les seguía. Yendo de camino, aconteció que una noche acamparon junto al río Tigris.
3 The boy had gone down to the river to wash his feet, when a great fish leapt out of the water and triedto swal ow his foot. The boy gave a shout	3 Bajó el muchacho al río a lavarse los pies, cuando saltó del agua un gran pez que quería devorar el pie del muchacho. Este gritó
4 and the angel said, 'Catch the fish; do not let it go.' The boy mastered the fish and pulled it onto thebank.	4 pero el ángel le dijo: «¡Agarra el pez y tenlo bien sujeto!» El muchacho se apoderó del pez y lo arrastró a tierra.
5 The angel said, 'Cut it open; take out gall, heart and liver; set these aside and throw the entrails away,for gal and heart and liver have curative properties.'	5 El ángel añadió: «Abre el pez, sácale la hiel, el corazón y el hígado y guárdatelo, y tira los intestinos; porque su hiel, su corazón y su hígado son remedios útiles».
6 The boy cut the fish open and took out gal and heart and liver. He fried part of the fish for his meal andkept some for salting. Then they walked on again together until they were nearly in Media.	6 El joven abrió el pez y tomó la hiel, el corazón y el hígado. Asó parte del pez y lo comió, salando el resto. Luego continuaron su camino, los dos juntos, hasta cerca de Media.
7 Then the boy asked the angel this question, 'Brother Azarias, what can the fish's heart, liver and galcure?'	7 Preguntó entonces el muchacho al ángel: «Hermano Azarías, ¿qué remedios hay en el corazón, el hígado y la hiel del pez?»
8 He replied, 'You burn the fish's heart and liver, and their smoke is used in the case of a man or womanplagued by a demon or evil spirit; any such affliction disappears for good, leaving no trace.	8 Le respondió: «Si se quema el corazón o el hígado del pez ante un hombre o una mujer atormentados por un demonio o un espíritu malo, el humo ahuyenta todo mal y le hace desaparecer para siempre.
9 As regards the gal , this is used as an eye ointment for anyone having white spots on his eyes; afterusing it, you have only to blow on the spots to cure them.'	9 Cuanto a la hiel, untando con ella los ojos de un hombre atacado por manchas blancas, y soplando sobre las manchas, queda curado».
10 They entered Media and had nearly reached Ecbatana	10 Cuando entraron en Media, y estando ya cerca de Ecbátana,
11 when Raphael said to the boy, 'Brother Tobias.' 'Yes?' he replied. The angel went on, 'Tonight we areto stay with Raguel, who is a kinsman of yours. He has a daughter cal ed Sarah,	11 dijo Rafael al joven: «Hermano Tobías». Le respondió: «¿Qué deseas?» Contestó él: «Pararemos esta noche en casa de Ragüel; es pariente tuyo y tiene una hija que se llama Sarra;
12 but apart from Sarah he has no other son or daughter. Now you are her next of kin; she belongs to youbefore anyone else and you may claim her father's inheritance. She is a thoughtful, courageous and very lovelygirl, and her father loves her dearly.	12 fuera de ella no tiene más hijos ni hijas; tú eres el más cercano, tienes más derechos sobre ella que todos los demás y es justo que heredes la hacienda de su padre; la muchacha es prudente, valerosa y muy bella y su padre la ama».
13 You have the right to marry her. Listen, brother; this very evening I shal speak about the girl to herfather and arrange for her to be betrothed to you, and when we come back from Rhages we can celebrate themarriage. I assure you, Raguel has no right whatever to refuse you or to betroth her to anyone else. That wouldbe asking for death, as prescribed in the Book of Moses, once he is aware that kinship gives you the pre-eminent right to marry his daughter. So listen, brother. This very evening we shal speak about the girl and askfor her hand in marriage. When we come back from Rhages we shal fetch her and take her home with us.'	13 Y añadió: «Es justo que la tomes para ti. Escúchame, hermano. Yo hablaré esta noche al padre acerca de la muchacha para que te la conceda como prometida, y a nuestro regreso de Ragués celebraremos la boda. Estoy seguro de que Ragüel no puede negártela, ni dársela a otro, pues se haría reo de muerte, según la sentencia del libro de Moisés, pues él sabe que te asiste el derecho a tomar a su hija por mujer. Así pues, óyeme bien, hermano; hablaremos esta noche sobre la muchacha y que la den como prometida; y cuando volvamos de Ragués, la tomaremos y la llevaremos con nosotros a tu casa».
14 Tobias replied to Raphael, 'Brother Azarias, I have been told that she has already been given inmarriage seven times and that each time her bridegroom has died in the bridal room. He died the same night ashe entered her room; and I have heard people say it was a demon that killed them,	14 Tobías respondió a Rafael: «Hermano Azarías, he oído decir que ya ha sido dada a siete maridos y que todos han muerto la noche de bodas; que cuando entraban donde ella, morían; también he oído decir que un demonio los mataba;
15 and this makes me afraid. To her the demon does no harm because he loves her, but as soon as aman tries to approach her, he kil s him. I am my father's only son, and I have no wish to die. I do not want myfather and mother to grieve over me for the rest of their lives; they have no other son to bury them.'	15 así que tengo miedo, pues a ella no le hace ningún daño, porque la ama; pero al que intenta acercarse a ella, le mata; yo soy hijo único, y si muero, haré bajar en tristeza al sepulcro, por mi causa, la vida de mi padre y de mi madre. Ellos no tienen otro hijo que les dé sepultura».
16 The angel said, 'Have you forgotten your father's advice? After all, he urged you to choose a wife fromyour father's family. Listen then, brother. Do not worry about the demon; take her. This very evening, I promise,she wil be given you as your wife.	16 Respondió el ángel: «¿Has olvidado las recomendaciones de tu padre, que te mandó tomar mujer de la casa de tu padre? Escúchame bien, hermano: no tengas miedo a ese demonio y tómala; sé bien que esta noche te la darán por mujer.
17 Then once you are in the bridal room, take the heart and liver of the fish and lay a little of it on theburning incense. The reek will rise,	17 Cuando entres en la cámara nupcial, tomas el corazón del pez y parte del hígado y lo pones sobre las brasas de los perfumes. Se difundirá el aroma y cuando el demonio lo huela, huirá y nunca aparecerá ya a su lado.
18 the demon wil smel it and flee, and there is no danger that he wil ever be found near the girl again.Then, before you sleep together, first stand up, both of you, and pray. Ask the Lord of heaven to grant you hisgrace and protection. Do not be afraid; she was destined for you from the beginning, and you are the one tosave her. She will fol ow you, and I pledge my word she wil give you children who will be like brothers to you. Donot worry.' And when Tobias heard Raphael say this, when he understood that Sarah was his sister, akinswoman of his father's family, he fel so deeply in love with her that he could no longer cal his heart his own.	18 Y cuando vayas a unirte a ella, levantaos primero los dos y haced oración y suplicad al Señor del Cielo que se apiade de vosotros y os salve. Y no tengas miedo, porque para ti está destinada desde el principio; tú la salvarás; ella se vendrá contigo y te aseguro que te dará hijos que serán para ti como hermanos. No te preocupes».
	19 Cuando Tobías oyó las razones de Rafael y que era hermana suya, del linaje de la casa de su padre, se enamoró de tal modo que se le apegó el corazón a ella.
