Ezra 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Once this was done, the officials approached me to say, 'The people of Israel, the priests and theLevites, have not renounced the disgusting practices of the people of the country -- the Canaanites, the Hittites,the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites-	1 Finite queste cose, mi si accostarono i principi a dire: « Il popolo d'Israele, i sacerdoti e i leviti non si son separati dai popoli di questi paesi nè dalle abbominazioni dei Cananei, degli Etei, dei Ferezei, dei Gebusei, degli Ammoniti, dei Moabiti, degli Egiziani e degli Amorrei:
2 since they and their sons have married some of their women, as a result of which the holy race hasbeen contaminated by the people of the country. The officials and leaders have been the worst offenders in thisact of infidelity.'	2 infatti han preso delle loro figlie per sè e per i propri figli, ed han mescolata la stirpe santa colle nazioni del paese, e a fare queste trasgressioni i primi sono stati i principi e i magistrati ».
3 On hearing this, I tore my clothes and my cloak; I pul ed hair from my head and beard and sat down inhorror.	3 Udite queste cose, io stracciai il mio mantello e la tunica mia, e strappatimi i capelli della testa e la barba, mi posi a sedere pieno di tristezza.
4 Al who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered round me, when faced with the infidelity ofthe exiles, while I went on sitting there in horror until the evening sacrifice.	4 Si radunarono intorno a me tutti quelli che temevano la parola del Dio d'Israele, a motivo delle trasgressioni di coloro che eran tornati dalla cattività. Io me ne stetti seduto con tristezza fino al sacrifizio della sera.
5 At the evening sacrifice I came out of my stupor and, falling on my knees in my torn clothes and cloak,stretched out my hands to Yahweh my God,	5 Al sacrifizio della sera mi alzai dalla mia afflizione, e, stracciato il mantello e la tunica, m'inginocchiai e alzai le mie mani al Signore Dio mio
6 and said: 'My God, I am ashamed, I blush to lift my face to you, my God. For our iniquities haveincreased, until they are higher than our heads, and our guilt has risen as high as heaven.	6 e dissi: « Dio mio, io son confuso, e mi vergogno di alzare verso di te la mia faccia, perchè le nostre iniquità si sono moltiplicate sopra la nostra testa, e i nostri delitti son cresciuti da arrivare fino al cielo,
7 From the days of our ancestors until now we have been deeply guilty and, because of our iniquities, we,our kings and our priests, have been handed over to the kings of other countries, to the sword, to captivity, topil age, to shame, as is the case today.	7 dai giorni dei nostri padri. E anche noi abbiamo peccato gravemente fino a questo giorno: per le nostre iniquità, noi, i nostri re e i nostri sacerdoti siamo stati abbandonati nelle mani dei re della terra, alla spada, alla schiavitù, al saccheggio, all'obbrobrio, come si vede anch'oggi.
8 And now, for a brief moment, the favour of Yahweh our God has allowed a remnant of us to escape andgiven us a stable home in his holy place, so that our God can raise our spirits and revive us a little in our slavery.	8 E' da poco, da un momento che la nostra preghiera s'è alzata verso il Signore Dio nostro, affinchè ci fossero lasciati dei resti, e ci fosse dato un piolo nel suo santo luogo, e il nostro Dio illuminasse i nostri occhi, e ci desse un po' di vita nella nostra servitù.
9 For we are slaves; but God has not forgotten us in our slavery; he has extended his faithful love to useven under the kings of Persia and revived us to rebuild the Temple of our God, restore its ruins and provide uswith a refuge in Judah and in Jerusalem.	9 Noi siam servi; ma il nostro Dio non ci ha abbandonati nella nostra servitù, anzi ha piegato sopra di noi la sua misericordia davanti al re dei Persiani per darci vita, rialzare la casa del nostro Dio, ristorarne le rovine e darci un ricovero in Giuda e in Gerusalem me.
10 But now, our God, what can we say after this? For we have abandoned your commandments,	10 Ed ora, o Dio nostro, che diremo noi dopo tali cose? Se abbiamo abbandonato i tuoi comandamenti,
11 which you gave through your servants the prophets in these terms, "The country which you are aboutto possess is a polluted country, pol uted by the people of the country and their disgusting practices, which havefilled it with their filth from end to end.	11 da te intimati per mezzo dei tuoi servi, i profeti, dicendo: La terra di cui entrerete in possesso è terra im monda per le abbominazioni di coloro che da un capo all'altro l'han riempita colle loro conta minazioni.
12 Hence you are not to give your daughters in marriage to their sons, or let their daughters marry yoursons, or ever concern yourselves about peace or good relations with them, if you want to grow stronger, to liveoff the fat of the land and bequeath it to your sons for ever."	12 Voi dunque non do vete dare le vostre figlie ai loro figli, nè prendere le loro figlie per i vostri figli, non dovete mai cercare la loro pace e la loro prosperità, per esser forti, mangiare i beni di questa terra e avere in perpetuo per eredi i vostri figli.
13 'After al that has befal en us because of our evil deeds and our deep guilt -- though you, our God, havepunished us less than our iniquities deserved and have al owed us to escape like this-	13 Or, dopo tutto quello che ci è venuto addosso a causa delle nostre pessime opere e del nostro grande peccato, tu, o Dio nostro, ci hai liberati dalla nostra iniquità, ci hai data la salute, come oggi si vede, imperché non si tornasse a conculcare i tuoi comandamenti, a unirci nei matrimoni coi popoli dati a tali abbominazioni. Sei tu forse irato con noi fino allo sterminio, da non lasciarci nemmeno un residuo per salvarci?
14 are we to break your commandments again and intermarry with people with these disgustingpractices? Would you not be enraged with us to the point of destroying us, leaving neither remnant nor survivor?	14 Signore Dio, tu sei giusto e noi per questo per esser salvati siamo rimasti, come oggi si vede. Eccoci dinanzi a te col nostro peccato, e non potremo dopo questo sussistere dinanzi a te ».
15 Yahweh, God of Israel, you are upright. We survive only as the remnant we are today. We come beforeyou in our guilt; because of it we cannot stand in your presence.'
