Ezra 9

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Once this was done, the officials approached me to say, 'The people of Israel, the priests and theLevites, have not renounced the disgusting practices of the people of the country -- the Canaanites, the Hittites,the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Moabites, the Egyptians and the Amorites-	1 Una vez terminado todo esto, se me presentaron los jefes para decirme: «El pueblo de Israel, los sacerdotes y los levitas no se han separado de la gente del país, que practica cosas abominables: los cananeos, los hititas, los perizitas, los jebuseos, los amonitas, los moabitas, los egipcios y los amorreos.
2 since they and their sons have married some of their women, as a result of which the holy race hasbeen contaminated by the people of the country. The officials and leaders have been the worst offenders in thisact of infidelity.'	2 Al contrario, se casaron y casaron a sus hijos con mujeres de esos pueblos, y así la raza santa se ha mezclado con la gente del país. ¡Los jefes y los magistrados fueron los primeros en participar de esta traición!».
3 On hearing this, I tore my clothes and my cloak; I pul ed hair from my head and beard and sat down inhorror.	3 Al oír esto, yo desgarré mi túnica y mi manto, me arranqué los pelos de la cabeza y de la barba, y me senté lleno de consternación.
4 Al who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered round me, when faced with the infidelity ofthe exiles, while I went on sitting there in horror until the evening sacrifice.	4 A causa de esta traición de los deportados, todos los que temían las palabras del Dios de Israel se reunieron junto a mí. Yo permanecí sentado y lleno de consternación, hasta la hora de la ofrenda de la tarde.
5 At the evening sacrifice I came out of my stupor and, falling on my knees in my torn clothes and cloak,stretched out my hands to Yahweh my God,	5 Entonces me levanté, y con la túnica y el manto desgarrados, caí de rodillas, extendía las manos hacia el Señor, mi Dios,
6 and said: 'My God, I am ashamed, I blush to lift my face to you, my God. For our iniquities haveincreased, until they are higher than our heads, and our guilt has risen as high as heaven.	6 y dije: «Dios mío, estoy tan avergonzado y confundido que no me atrevo a levantar mi rostro hacia ti. Porque nuestras iniquidades se han multiplicado hasta cubrirnos por completo, y nuestra culpa ha subido hasta el cielo.
7 From the days of our ancestors until now we have been deeply guilty and, because of our iniquities, we,our kings and our priests, have been handed over to the kings of other countries, to the sword, to captivity, topil age, to shame, as is the case today.	7 Desde los días de nuestros padres hasta hoy, nos hemos hecho muy culpables, y a causa de nuestras iniquidades, nosotros, nuestros reyes y nuestros sacerdotes, fuimos entregados a los reyes extranjeros, a la espada, al cautiverio, al saqueo y a la vergüenza, como nos sucede en el día de hoy.
8 And now, for a brief moment, the favour of Yahweh our God has allowed a remnant of us to escape andgiven us a stable home in his holy place, so that our God can raise our spirits and revive us a little in our slavery.	8 Pero ahora, hace muy poco tiempo, el Señor, nuestro Dios, nos ha concedido la gracia de dejarnos un resto de sobrevivientes y de darnos un refugio en su Lugar santo. Así nuestro Dios ha iluminado nuestros ojos y nos ha dado un respiro en medio de nuestra esclavitud.
9 For we are slaves; but God has not forgotten us in our slavery; he has extended his faithful love to useven under the kings of Persia and revived us to rebuild the Temple of our God, restore its ruins and provide uswith a refuge in Judah and in Jerusalem.	9 Porque nosotros estamos sometidos; pero nuestro Dios no nos ha abandonado en medio de la servidumbre. El nos obtuvo el favor de los reyes de Persia, para animarnos a levantar la Casa de nuestro Dios y restaurar sus ruinas, y ara darnos una muralla en Judá y en Jerusalén.
10 But now, our God, what can we say after this? For we have abandoned your commandments,	10 Y ahora, Dios nuestro, ¿qué más podemos decir? Porque hemos abandonado tus mandamientos,
11 which you gave through your servants the prophets in these terms, "The country which you are aboutto possess is a polluted country, pol uted by the people of the country and their disgusting practices, which havefilled it with their filth from end to end.	11 los que nos habías dado por medio de tus servidores los profetas, diciendo: «La tierra en la que entrarán para tomar posesión de ella es una tierra manchada por gente del país, por las abominaciones con que la han llenado de un extremo al otro a causa de su impureza.
12 Hence you are not to give your daughters in marriage to their sons, or let their daughters marry yoursons, or ever concern yourselves about peace or good relations with them, if you want to grow stronger, to liveoff the fat of the land and bequeath it to your sons for ever."	12 Por eso, no entreguen sus hijas a los hijos de ellos ni casen a sus hijos con las hijas de esa gente. No busquen nunca su paz ni su bienestar. Así ustedes llegarán a ser fuertes, comerán los mejores frutos de la tierra, y la dejarán en herencia a sus hijos para siempre».
13 'After al that has befal en us because of our evil deeds and our deep guilt -- though you, our God, havepunished us less than our iniquities deserved and have al owed us to escape like this-	13 Después de todo lo que nos ha sucedido por nuestras malas acciones y nuestra gran culpa –aunque tú, Dios nuestro, no has tenido en cuenta todo el alcance de nuestra iniquidad y nos has dejado estos sobrevivientes –
14 are we to break your commandments again and intermarry with people with these disgustingpractices? Would you not be enraged with us to the point of destroying us, leaving neither remnant nor survivor?	14 ¿cómo es posible que volvamos a violar tus mandamientos y a emparentarnos con esta gente abominable? ¿No te irritarías hasta destruirnos, sin dejar ni un resto con vida?
15 Yahweh, God of Israel, you are upright. We survive only as the remnant we are today. We come beforeyou in our guilt; because of it we cannot stand in your presence.'	15 Señor, Dios de Israel, porque tú eres justo, hemos sobrevivido como un resto. ¡Aquí estamos en tu presencia con nuestras culpas, a pesar de que en estas condiciones nadie puede comparecer delante de ti».
