2 Chronicles 25

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for twenty-nine yearsin Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.	1 Amazia divenne re a venticinque anni e regnò ventinove anni in Gerusalemme. Il nome di sua madre era Ioaddan, da Gerusalemme.
2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Fece ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore, ma non con cuore perfetto.
3 Once the kingdom was firmly under his control, he killed those of his retainers who had murdered theking his father.	3 Quando il regno fu rinsaldato nelle sue mani, egli uccise gli ufficiali che avevano assassinato il re, suo padre,
4 But he did not put their sons to death; this was in accordance with what is written in the Law, in thebook of Moses, where Yahweh had commanded, 'Parents may not be put to death for children, nor children forparents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'	4 ma non mise a morte i loro figli, perché sta scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè il comando del Signore: "I padri non moriranno per colpa dei figli e i figli non moriranno per colpa dei padri, ma ognuno morirà per il suo peccato".
5 Amaziah summoned Judah and organised al Judah and Benjamin by families under commanders ofthousands and commanders of hundreds. He also made a register of those who were twenty years old andupwards, and found there were three hundred thousand picked men, ready for service and capable of wieldingspear and shield.	5 Amazia riunì il popolo di Giuda e lo distribuì secondo i casati, ponendo tutto Giuda e Beniamino sotto capi di migliaia e capi di centinaia. 7 A man of God then came to him and said, 'My lord king, do not let the Israelite troops march with you,for Yahweh is not with Israel or with any of the Ephraimites.	7 Allora gli si presentò un uomo di Dio che gli disse: "O re, l'esercito d'Israele non si unisca a te, poiché il Signore non è con Israele, con nessuno dei figli di Efraim.
8 For however valiantly you act in war, God will bring you down before the enemy, for God has thepower to uphold or to throw down.'	8 Se egli viene, non ti gioverà essere forte in battaglia! Dio ti farà stramazzare davanti al nemico, perché Dio ha il potere di aiutare e di abbattere".
9 Amaziah said to the man of God, 'But what about the hundred talents which I have paid for theIsraelite troops?' 'Yahweh can give you far more than that,' said the man of God.	9 Amazia rispose all'uomo di Dio: "Che ne sarà dei cento talenti che ho dato per l'esercito d'Israele?". L'uomo di Dio replicò: "Il Signore può darti molto di più di questo".
10 At this, Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them homeagain. They were furious with Judah and went home in a great rage.	10 Allora Amazia congedò l'esercito che si era unito a lui da Efraim perché se ne ritornasse a casa sua. Ma l'ira di costoro si accese vivamente contro Giuda e se ne ritornarono a casa propria pieni di sdegno.
11 Amaziah then, coming to a decision, led out his own troops and, having reached the Valley of Salt,struck down ten thousand Seirites.	11 Fattosi animo, Amazia si mise a capo del suo esercito conducendolo nella valle del Sale, dove sconfisse i figli di Seir in numero di diecimila.
12 The men of Judah captured ten thousand more alive and, taking them to the summit of the Rock,threw them off the summit of the Rock so that they were al dashed to pieces.	12 Quelli di Giuda ne fecero prigionieri diecimila vivi e, condottili sulla cima d'una roccia, li precipitarono giù: tutti si sfracellarono.
13 Meanwhile, the troops whom Amaziah had dismissed and not al owed to go into battle with him rasedthe towns of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-Horon, kil ing three thousand of their inhabitants and capturing great quantities of plunder.	13 Quanto agli uomini della schiera che Amazia aveva rimandato perché non partecipassero con lui alla battaglia, essi fecero incursioni nelle città di Giuda, da Samaria fino a Bet-Oròn, uccidendovi tremila persone e facendo un ricco bottino.
14 On returning from his slaughter of the Edomites, Amaziah brought the gods of the Seirites with him;he set these up as his gods, bowing down before them and burning incense to them.	14 Dopo che Amazia ritornò dalla strage compiuta sugli Edomiti, fece portare gli dèi dei figli di Seir e se li costituì come dèi, prostrandosi davanti a loro e offrendo loro incenso.
15 Yahweh's anger was aroused by Amaziah and he sent him a prophet, who said to him, 'Why do youconsult those people's gods when they could not save their own people from your clutches?'	15 Ma l'ira del Signore si accese contro Amazia e gli mandò un profeta per dirgli: "Perché ti sei rivolto agli dèi, che non sono stati capaci di liberare il loro popolo dalla tua mano?".
16 He was stil speaking when Amaziah interrupted him. 'Have we appointed you a royal counsel or?Stop, as you value your life!' So the prophet stopped, and then said, 'I know that God has decided to destroy youfor having done this and for not listening to my advice.'	16 Mentre stava ancora parlando, il re lo interruppe: "Forse ti abbiamo costituito consigliere del re? Smettila! Perché ti si dovrebbe uccidere!". Il profeta smise, ma poi disse: "So che Dio ha deciso di distruggerti, perché hai fatto questo e non hai prestato ascolto al mio consiglio".
17 After consultation, Amaziah king of Judah then sent a message to Joash son of Jehoahaz son ofJehu, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make a trial of strength!'	17 Preso consiglio, Amazia, re di Giuda, mandò a dire a Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, figlio di Ieu, re d'Israele: "Orsù, affrontiamoci!".
18 Joash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent amessage to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, "Give my son your daughter in marriage"; but a wild animal of theLebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.	18 Ma Ioas, re d'Israele, inviò questa risposta ad Amazia, re di Giuda: "Il cardo del Libano mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: Da' la tua figlia in moglie a mio figlio. Ma una bestia selvatica del Libano, passando, calpestò il cardo.
19 "Look at me, the conqueror of Edom," you say, and now aspire to even greater glory. But stay whereyou belong! Why chal enge disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'	19 Tu ti sei detto: "Ecco, ho sconfitto Edom", e il tuo cuore ti spinge ad inorgoglirti. Ora stattene a casa tua. Perché vorresti provocare una sciagura e cadere tu e Giuda con te?".
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for this was an act of God to deliver them up for having consulted thegods of Edom.	20 Ma Amazia non prestò ascolto; del resto era volontà di Dio che fossero consegnati nelle mani del nemico, perché si erano rivolti agli dèi di Edom.
21 So Joash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh, which belongs to Judah, heand Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.	21 Ioas, re d'Israele, si mise in marcia e ambedue, lui e Amazia, re di Giuda, si scontrarono a faccia a faccia a Bet-Semes, che appartiene a Giuda.

23 The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Joash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh byJoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city walbetween the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;	23 Ioas, re d'Israele, fece prigioniero a Bet-Semes Amazia, re di Giuda, figlio di Ioas, figlio di Acazia. Condottolo a Gerusalemme, aprì una breccia nelle mura di Gerusalemme, dalla porta di Efraim fino alla porta dell'Angolo, per quattrocento cubiti.
24 he then took back with him to Samaria al the gold and silver, and al the vessels to be found in theTemple of God in the care of Obed-Edom, the treasures in the palace, and hostages besides.	24 Prese tutto l'oro, l'argento e tutti gli oggetti che si trovavano nel tempio di Dio, affidati a Obed-Edom, i tesori del palazzo reale e alcuni ostaggi; quindi ritornò in Samaria.
25 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash son ofJehoahaz, king of Israel.	25 Dopo la morte di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d'Israele, Amazia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni.
26 The rest of the history of Amaziah, from first to last, is this not recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel?	26 Il resto delle imprese di Amazia, le prime come le ultime, non sono forse scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele?
27 Some time after Amaziah had defected from Yahweh, a plot having been hatched against him inJerusalem, he fled to Lachish where he was murdered.	27 Dopo che Amazia si era allontanato dal Signore, si organizzò una congiura contro di lui in Gerusalemme. Egli fuggì a Lachis, ma fu inseguito a Lachis e quivi ucciso.
