1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for twenty-nine yearsin Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.	1 Venticinque anni aveva Amasia quando principiò a regnare, e ventinove anni regnò in Gerusalemme: sua madre ebbe nome Joadan, ed era di Gerusalemme.
2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Ed egli fece il bene nel cospetto del Signore; ma non con cuore perfetto.
3 Once the kingdom was firmly under his control, he killed those of his retainers who had murdered theking his father.	3 E quando vide assicurato il suo regno, fece scannare i servi, che avean ucciso il re suo padre.
4 But he did not put their sons to death; this was in accordance with what is written in the Law, in thebook of Moses, where Yahweh had commanded, 'Parents may not be put to death for children, nor children forparents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'	4 Ma non fece morire i loro figliuoli, conforme sta scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, dove il Signore ordinò, e disse: Non saranno uccisi i padri pe' figliuoli, né i figliuoli pei padri loro: ciascheduno morrà pel suo proprio peccato.
5 Amaziah summoned Judah and organised al Judah and Benjamin by families under commanders ofthousands and commanders of hundreds. He also made a register of those who were twenty years old andupwards, and found there were three hundred thousand picked men, ready for service and capable of wieldingspear and shield.	5 Amasia pertanto convocò Giuda, e li distribuì nelle sue famiglie, e diede dei tribuni, e dei centurioni a tutto il popol di Giuda, e di Benjamin: e ne fece il censo dai venti anni in su, e trovò trecento mila giovani atti alla guerra, armati di scudo, e di lancia.
6 Furthermore, he hired a hundred thousand tough fighting men from Israel for a hundred talents ofsilver.	6 E assoldò ancora cento mila uomini valorosi d'Israele, pagando cento talenti di oro.
7 A man of God then came to him and said, 'My lord king, do not let the Israelite troops march with you,for Yahweh is not with Israel or with any of the Ephraimites.	7 Ma un uomo di Dio andò a lui, e gli disse: Non venga teco, o re, l'esercito d'Israele: perocché il Signore non è con Israele, né coi figliuoli di Ephraim.
8 For however valiantly you act in war, God will bring you down before the enemy, for God has thepower to uphold or to throw down.'	8 Che se tu ti pensi, che tutto in guerra dipenda dalla forza dell'esercito, Dio farà, che tu sii vinto da' nemici: perocché in mano di Dio sta il dare aiuto, o mettere in fuga.
9 Amaziah said to the man of God, 'But what about the hundred talents which I have paid for theIsraelite troops?' 'Yahweh can give you far more than that,' said the man of God.	9 E Amasia disse all'uom di Dio: E che sarà egli de' cento talenti dati da me ai soldati d'Israele? E l'uom di Dio gli rispose: Il Signore ha il modo di poterne rendere a te molti più.
10 At this, Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them homeagain. They were furious with Judah and went home in a great rage.	10 Allora Amasia separò l'esercito, che gli era venuto da Ephraim, affinchè se ne tornasse al suo paese. E questo sdegnati forte contro di Giuda se n'andarono a casa loro.
11 Amaziah then, coming to a decision, led out his own troops and, having reached the Valley of Salt,struck down ten thousand Seirites.	11 E Amasia con fidanza diede la mossa alle sue genti, e andò nella valle delle Saline, e sconfìsse i figliuoli di Seir in numero di dieci mila.
12 The men of Judah captured ten thousand more alive and, taking them to the summit of the Rock,threw them off the summit of the Rock so that they were al dashed to pieces.	12 E altri dieci mila uomini li fecero prigionieri i figliuoli di Giuda, e li condussero sopra un masso scosceso, e li precipitarono da quell'altura al basso, e tutti quanti si fracassarono.
13 Meanwhile, the troops whom Amaziah had dismissed and not al owed to go into battle with him rasedthe towns of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-Horon, kil ing three thousand of their inhabitants and capturing great quantities of plunder.	13 Ma quell' esercito licenziato da Amasia, per non condurlo seco alla guerra, si sparse per le città di Giuda da Samaria sino a Bethoron, e uccise tre mila persone, e portò via molta preda.
14 On returning from his slaughter of the Edomites, Amaziah brought the gods of the Seirites with him;he set these up as his gods, bowing down before them and burning incense to them.	14 Ma Amasia dopo la strage degl'Idumei, e dopo aver portato seco gli dei de' figliuoli di Seir, se gli fece suoi dei, e gli adorava, e bruciava loro degl'incensi.
15 Yahweh's anger was aroused by Amaziah and he sent him a prophet, who said to him, 'Why do youconsult those people's gods when they could not save their own people from your clutches?'	15 Per la qual cosa sdegnato il Signore contro di Amasia, mandò a lui un profeta, affinchè gli dicesse: Per qual motivo adori tu degli dei, i quali non salvarono il loro popolo dalle tue mani?
16 He was stil speaking when Amaziah interrupted him. 'Have we appointed you a royal counsel or?Stop, as you value your life!' So the prophet stopped, and then said, 'I know that God has decided to destroy youfor having done this and for not listening to my advice.'	16 E mentre in tal guisa parlava a lui il profeta, egli rispose: Se' tu forse consigliere del re? Taci, che io non ti faccia morire. E il profeta partendo disse: Io so, che Dio ha risolto di farti perire per questo male, che hai fatto e perchè di più non hai dato retta a' miei consigli.
17 After consultation, Amaziah king of Judah then sent a message to Joash son of Jehoahaz son ofJehu, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make a trial of strength!'	17 Or Amasia re di Giuda con pessimo consiglio mandò adire a Gioas figliuolo di Joachaz, figliuolo di Jehu, re d'Israele: Vieni, affinchè ci veggiamo tra noi.
18 Joash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent amessage to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, "Give my son your daughter in marriage"; but a wild animal of theLebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.	18 Ma questi rimandò i messi con dire: Il cardo, che è sul Libano, mandò a dire al cedro del Libano: Dà la tua figlia per moglie al mio figliuolo: ma ad un tratto le fiere, che erano nei boschi del Libano, in passando, calpestarono il cardo.
19 "Look at me, the conqueror of Edom," you say, and now aspire to even greater glory. But stay whereyou belong! Why chal enge disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'	19 Tu hai detto: Io ho sconfitti gl'Idumei; e per questo il cuor tuo si è levato in superbia: stattene a sedere in casa tua: perchè ti cerchi tu dei malanni per andar per terra tu, e Giuda con teco?
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for this was an act of God to deliver them up for having consulted thegods of Edom.	20 Amasia non volle ascoltarlo, per chè era voler del Signore, ch'ei fosse dato in potere de suoi nemici a causa degli dei di Edom.
21 So Joash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh, which belongs to Judah, heand Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.	21 Per la qual cosa Gioas re d'Israele si mosse, e vennero in presenza l'uno dell'altro. E Amasia re di Giuda era in Bethsames di Giuda:
22 Judah was defeated by Israel, and everyone fled to his tent.	22 E Giuda non potè stare a petto con Israele, e se ne fuggì alle sue tende.
23 The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Joash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh byJoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city walbetween the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;	23 E Amasia re di Giuda, figliuolo di Gioas, figliuolo di Joachaz, fu fatto prigioniere da Gioas re d'Israele, in Bethsames, e fu condotto da lui a Gerusalemme. E Gioas abbattè la muraglia (della città) dalla porta di Ephraim sino alla porta dell'angolo per quattrocento cubiti.
24 he then took back with him to Samaria al the gold and silver, and al the vessels to be found in theTemple of God in the care of Obed-Edom, the treasures in the palace, and hostages besides.	24 E tutto l'oro, e l'argento, e tutti quanti i vasi, ch'ei trovò nella casa di Dio, e nelle stanze di Obededom, e anche nei tesori della casa reale li portò a Samaria, e anche i figliuoli degli ostaggi.
25 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash son ofJehoahaz, king of Israel.	25 Or Amasia figliuolo di Gioas, re di Giuda, visse quindici anni dopo la morte di Gioas figliuolo di Joachaz, re d'Israele.
26 The rest of the history of Amaziah, from first to last, is this not recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel?	26 Il rimanente poi delle azioni di Amasia, le prime, e le ultime sono scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda, e d'Israele.
27 Some time after Amaziah had defected from Yahweh, a plot having been hatched against him inJerusalem, he fled to Lachish where he was murdered.	27 E dopo che egli si fu allontanato dal Signore, fu ordita una congiura contro di lui in Gerusalemme. 28 He was then transported by horse and buried with his ancestors in the city of David.	28 E riportatolo sopra un cocchio, lo seppellirono co' padri suoi nella città di David.
