2 Chronicles 25

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for twenty-nine yearsin Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.	1 Amasias devint roi à l'âge de 25 ans et régna 29 ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelaitYehoaddân, et était de Jérusalem.
2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, though not wholeheartedly.	2 Il fit ce qui est agréable à Yahvé, non pas pourtant d'un coeur sans défaillance.
3 Once the kingdom was firmly under his control, he killed those of his retainers who had murdered theking his father.	3 Lorsque le royaume se fut affermi sous son gouvernement, il mit à mort ceux de ses officiersqui avaient tué le roi son père.
4 But he did not put their sons to death; this was in accordance with what is written in the Law, in thebook of Moses, where Yahweh had commanded, 'Parents may not be put to death for children, nor children forparents, but each must be put to death for his own crime.'	4 Mais il ne fit pas mourir leurs fils, car il est écrit dans la Loi, dans le livre de Moïse, queYahvé a prescrit: Les pères ne seront pas mis à mort pour les fils et les fils ne seront pas mis à mort pour lespères, mais chacun sera mis à mort pour son propre crime.
5 Amaziah summoned Judah and organised al Judah and Benjamin by families under commanders ofthousands and commanders of hundreds. He also made a register of those who were twenty years old andupwards, and found there were three hundred thousand picked men, ready for service and capable of wieldingspear and shield.	5 Amasias réunit les Judéens et les constitua en familles avec officiers de milliers et decentaines pour tout Juda et Benjamin. Il recensa ceux qui avaient vingt ans et plus et il en trouva 300.000,hommes d'élite aptes à faire campagne, la lance et le bouclier au poing.
6 Furthermore, he hired a hundred thousand tough fighting men from Israel for a hundred talents ofsilver.	6 Il enrôla ensuite comme mercenaires, pour cent talents d'argent, 100.000 preux vaillantsd'Israël.
7 A man of God then came to him and said, 'My lord king, do not let the Israelite troops march with you,for Yahweh is not with Israel or with any of the Ephraimites.	7 Un homme de Dieu vint alors le trouver et lui dit: "O Roi, il ne faut pas que les troupesd'Israël viennent se joindre à toi, car Yahvé n'est ni avec Israël ni avec aucun des Ephraïmites.
8 For however valiantly you act in war, God will bring you down before the enemy, for God has thepower to uphold or to throw down.'	8 Car s'ils viennent, tu auras beau agir et combattre vaillamment, Dieu ne t'en fera pas moinstrébucher devant tes ennemis, car c'est en Dieu qu'est le pouvoir de soutenir et d'abattre."
9 Amaziah said to the man of God, 'But what about the hundred talents which I have paid for theIsraelite troops?' 'Yahweh can give you far more than that,' said the man of God.	9 Amasias répondit à l'homme de Dieu: "Quoi! Et les cent talents que j'ai donnés à la trouped'Israélites" -- "Yahvé a de quoi te donner beaucoup plus que cela", dit l'homme de Dieu.
10 At this, Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him from Ephraim and sent them homeagain. They were furious with Judah and went home in a great rage.	10 Amasias détacha alors de la sienne la troupe qui lui était venue d'Ephraïm et la renvoyachez elle; ces gens furent très excités contre Juda et retournèrent chez eux fort en colère.
11 Amaziah then, coming to a decision, led out his own troops and, having reached the Valley of Salt,struck down ten thousand Seirites.	11 Amasias se décida à partir à la tête de ses troupes, il gagna la vallée du Sel et battit 10.000fils de Séïr.
12 The men of Judah captured ten thousand more alive and, taking them to the summit of the Rock,threw them off the summit of the Rock so that they were al dashed to pieces.	12 Les Judéens emmenèrent vivants 10.000 captifs qu'ils conduisirent au sommet de la Roche,d'où ils les précipitèrent; tous s'écrasèrent.
13 Meanwhile, the troops whom Amaziah had dismissed and not al owed to go into battle with him rasedthe towns of Judah, from Samaria to Beth-Horon, kil ing three thousand of their inhabitants and capturing great quantities of plunder.	13 Quant à la troupe qu'avait congédiée Amasias au lieu de l'emmener combattre avec lui, elleenvahit les villes de Juda, de Samarie à Bet-Horôn, battit une troupe de trois milliers et fit un grand pillage.
14 On returning from his slaughter of the Edomites, Amaziah brought the gods of the Seirites with him;he set these up as his gods, bowing down before them and burning incense to them.	14 Une fois rentré de sa campagne victorieuse contre les Edomites, Amasias introduisit lesdieux des fils de Séïr, en fit ses dieux, se prosterna devant eux et les encensa.
15 Yahweh's anger was aroused by Amaziah and he sent him a prophet, who said to him, 'Why do youconsult those people's gods when they could not save their own people from your clutches?'	15 La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma contre Amasias, il lui envoya un prophète qui lui dit:"Pourquoi recherches-tu les dieux de ce peuple, qui n'ont pu le sauver de ta main?"
16 He was stil speaking when Amaziah interrupted him. 'Have we appointed you a royal counsel or?Stop, as you value your life!' So the prophet stopped, and then said, 'I know that God has decided to destroy youfor having done this and for not listening to my advice.'	16 Il lui parlait encore qu'Amasias l'interrompit: "T'avons-nous nommé conseiller du roi?Arrête-toi, si tu ne veux pas qu'on te frappe." Le prophète s'arrêta, puis il dit: "Je sais que Dieu a tenu conseilpour ta perte, puisque tu as agi ainsi et que tu n'as pas écouté mon conseil."
17 After consultation, Amaziah king of Judah then sent a message to Joash son of Jehoahaz son ofJehu, king of Israel, saying, 'Come and make a trial of strength!'	17 Après avoir tenu conseil, Amasias, roi de Juda, envoya dire à Joas, fils de Joachaz, fils deJéhu, roi d'Israël: "Viens et mesurons-nous!"
18 Joash king of Israel sent back word to Amaziah king of Judah, 'The thistle of Lebanon sent amessage to the cedar of Lebanon, saying, "Give my son your daughter in marriage"; but a wild animal of theLebanon ran over the thistle and squashed it.	18 Joas, roi d'Israël, retourna ce message à Amasias, roi de Juda: "Le chardon du Liban mandaceci au cèdre du Liban: Donne ta fille pour femme à mon fils, mais les bêtes sauvages du Liban passèrent etfoulèrent le chardon.
19 "Look at me, the conqueror of Edom," you say, and now aspire to even greater glory. But stay whereyou belong! Why chal enge disaster, to your own and Judah's ruin?'	19 Me voici vainqueur d'Edom, as-tu dit, et tu te montes la tête! Sois glorieux et restemaintenant chez toi. Pourquoi provoquer le malheur et amener ta chute et celle de Juda avec toi?"
20 But Amaziah would not listen, for this was an act of God to deliver them up for having consulted thegods of Edom.	20 Mais Amasias n'écouta pas; c'était le fait de Dieu qui voulait livrer ces gens-là pour avoirrecherché les dieux d'Edom.
21 So Joash king of Israel marched to the attack. And at Beth-Shemesh, which belongs to Judah, heand Amaziah king of Judah made their trial of strength.	21 Joas, roi d'Israël, se mit en campagne. Ils se mesurèrent, lui et Amasias, roi de Juda, à Bet-Shémesh qui appartient à Juda.
22 Judah was defeated by Israel, and everyone fled to his tent.	22 Juda fut battu devant Israël et chacun s'enfuit à sa tente.
23 The king of Judah, Amaziah son of Joash, son of Ahaziah, was taken prisoner at Beth-Shemesh byJoash king of Israel who led him off to Jerusalem, where he demolished four hundred cubits of the city walbetween the Ephraim Gate and the Corner Gate;	23 Quant au roi de Juda, Amasias, fils de Joas, fils d'Ochozias, le roi d'Israël Joas le fitprisonnier à Bet-Shémesh et l'emmena à Jérusalem. Il fit une brèche au rempart de Jérusalem, depuis la ported'Ephraïm jusqu'à la porte de l'Angle, sur 400 coudées.
24 he then took back with him to Samaria al the gold and silver, and al the vessels to be found in theTemple of God in the care of Obed-Edom, the treasures in the palace, and hostages besides.	24 Il prit tout l'or et l'argent, tout le mobilier qui se trouvait dans le Temple de Dieu chezObed-Edom, les trésors du palais royal, des otages, et retourna à Samarie.
25 Amaziah son of Joash, king of Judah, lived for fifteen years after the death of Joash son ofJehoahaz, king of Israel.	25 Amasias, fils de Joas, roi de Juda, vécut encore quinze ans après la mort de Joas, fils deJoachaz, roi d'Israël.
26 The rest of the history of Amaziah, from first to last, is this not recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel?	26 Le reste de l'histoire d'Amasias, du début à la fin, n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Rois de Judaet d'Israël?
27 Some time after Amaziah had defected from Yahweh, a plot having been hatched against him inJerusalem, he fled to Lachish where he was murdered.	27 Après l'époque où Amasias se détourna de Yahvé, on trama contre lui un complot àJérusalem; il s'enfuit vers Lakish, mais on le fit poursuivre à Lakish et mettre à mort là-bas.
28 He was then transported by horse and buried with his ancestors in the city of David.	28 On le transporta avec des chevaux et on l'enterra auprès de ses pères dans la Cité de David.
