NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Jehoshaphat king of Judah returned home safely, however, to Jerusalem.	1 Giosafat re di Giuda se ne tornò in pace a casa sua in Gerusa­lemme;
2 Jehu son of Hanani the seer went to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, 'Should a man give helpto the wicked? Should you love those who hate Yahweh and so bring his retribution on yourself?	2 ma Iehu, figlio di Anani, il veggente, gli usci incontro e gli disse: « Tu dai aiuto a un empio e stringi amicizia con quelli che odiano il Signore: per questo ti meritavi l'ira del Signore;
3 Al the same, there are good things to your credit, since you have removed the sacred poles from thecountry and have set your heart on seeking God.'	3 ma si son trovate in te delle opere buone, chè hai tolti via i boschetti sacri dalla terra di Giuda, ed hai preparato il tuo cuore per cercare il Signore Dio dei tuoi padri ».
4 Jehoshaphat resided in Jerusalem but regularly went on progress among the people, from Beershebato the highlands of Ephraim, to convert them to Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	4 Giosafat si fermò in Gerusa­lemme, e poi uscì di nuovo a visitare il popolo da Bersabee fino alle montagne d'Efraim, e li richiamò al Signore Dio dei loro padri.
5 He also appointed judges in the country in every one of the fortified towns of Judah,	5 Egli stabilì nel paese, in tutte le città forti di Giuda, dei giudici per ciascun luogo.
6 saying to the judges, 'Be careful what you do, since you are judging not by any human power but inthe name of Yahweh, who will be with you when you pronounce sentence.	6 E, dando i suoi ordini ai giudici, disse: « Badate a quel che fate; perchè voi non fate le veci d'un uomo, ma di Dio: tutto ciò che voi avrete giudicato ricadrà sopra di voi.
7 This being so, let fear of Yahweh govern you; be careful what you do, for Yahweh our God wil nottolerate malpractice, partiality or the taking of bribes.'	7 Sia dunque con voi il timore del Signore, e fate ogni cosa con diligenza, perchè presso al Signore Dio nostro non v'è iniquità, nè accettazione di persone, nè bramosia di doni ».
8 Jehoshaphat also appointed some of the Levites, priests and heads of Israelite families in Jerusalemto settle disputes. They lived in Jerusalem	8 Giosafat anche in Gerusalemme stabilì dei leviti e dei sacerdoti e dei principi delle famiglie d'Israele, affinché giudicassero il giudizio e la causa del Signore per i suoi abitanti.
9 and Jehoshaphat gave them the fol owing charge: 'In fear of Yahweh and with conscientious integrity,this is how you are to act:	9 E diede loro que­st'ordine: «Voi agirete nel timore del Signore, con fedeltà e con cuore perfetto.
10 whatever case your brothers living in other towns refer to you, whether involving blood feuds or lawand commandment, statutes and judgements, you are to instruct them in such manner that they do not incur guiltbefore Yahweh and that you and your brothers do not incur his anger. If you act thus, you will not incur guilt.	10 In ogni causa che sarà, portata davanti a voi dai vostri fratelli che abitano nelle loro città, tra famiglia e fa­miglia, e dovunque si tratti di legge, di comandamento, di cerimonie e di ordinazioni, voi li istruirete, chè non pecchino contro il Signore, e l'ira di Dio non sia sopra di voi e sopra i vostri fratelli. Così facendo non peccherete.
11 Amariah the chief priest himself wil be your president in al religious cases, and Zebadiah son ofIshmael, leader of the House of Judah, in al civil ones, while the Levites will act as officers of the court. Be firm,put this into practice and may Yahweh protect the right!'	11 Amasia, vostro sacerdote e pontefice, presiederà in tutto quello che spetta al Signore; Zabadia figlio d'Ismaele, prin­cipe della casa di Giuda, presiederà in tutti gli affari riguardanti il servizio del re. Avete a vostra disposizione, come maestri, i leviti: fatevi adunque coraggio, siate diligenti, e il Signore sarà con voi e vi farà del bene ».
