NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Asa did what Yahweh his God regards as good and right.	1 - Abia si addormentò co' padri suoi e fu sepolto nella città di Davide e regnò in sua vece Asa, figlio di lui; durante il suo regno il paese godette dieci anni di quiete.
2 He abolished the foreign altars and the high places, broke the pil ars, cut down the sacred poles,	2 Asa fece ciò che era buono e accetto al cospetto del suo Dio e abbattè gli altari del culto straniero e i luoghi eccelsi;
3 and urged Judah to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, and to observe the law and commandment.	3 spezzò pure le statue e abbattè i boschetti sacri.
4 Because he abolished the high places and incense altars through the towns of Judah, the kingdomunder him was undisturbed.	4 Comandò inoltre a Giuda di cercare il Signore Dio dei loro padri, e di osservare la legge e tutti i comandamenti.
5 He rebuilt the fortified towns of Judah, since the country was at peace and free of war during thoseyears, because Yahweh had granted him peace.	5 Fece anche sparire da tutte le città di Giuda gli altari e i templi, e regnò in pace.
6 'Let us rebuild these towns,' he told Judah, 'let us surround them with wal and tower, with gate andbar while the country is still ours, for we have sought Yahweh our God and he has sought us and given us peaceal around.' They built and prospered.	6 Fabbricò pure delle città fortificate in Giuda, poichè il paese era tranquillo e durante quegli anni non vi fu guerra contro di lui, avendogli il Signore accordata la pace.
7 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men of Judah armed with shields and spears and twohundred and eighty thousand men of Benjamin armed with shields and bows, al of them outstanding soldiers.	7 Aveva egli detto a Giuda: «Edifichiamo queste città, circondiamole di mura, fortifichiamole di porte e di sbarre, intanto che tutto riposa dalla guerra, perchè abbiamo cercato il Signore Dio dei padri nostri, e da ogni parte egli ci ha accordato il riposo». Si misero quindi a fabbricare e nessuna cosa impedì il loro lavoro.
8 Zerah the Cushite took the field against them with an army a mil ion strong and three hundredchariots, and penetrated to Mareshah.	8 Asa ebbe nel suo esercito trecentomila uomini della tribù di Giuda, armati di scudo e di lancia, e duecentoottantamila uomini della tribù di Beniamino, che portavan scudo e tiravan d'arco; tutta gente di grande valore.
9 Asa took the field against him and the battle-lines were drawn up in the Valley of Zephathah, atMareshah.	9 Essendo venuto contro di essi Zara l'Etiope col suo esercito di un milione di armati e di trecento carri ed essendosi egli avanzato fino a Maresa,
10 Asa then cal ed on Yahweh his God and said, 'Yahweh, numbers and strength make no difference toyou when you give your help. Help us, Yahweh our God, for, relying on you, we are confronting this horde inyour name. Yahweh, you are our God. Human strength cannot prevail against you!'	10 Asa gli mosse incontro, dispose il suo esercito in ordine di battaglia nella valle di Sefata, che è presso Maresa,
11 Yahweh routed the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled,	11 e invocò il Signore Iddio, dicendo: «Signore, per te è la stessa cosa porgere aiuto a pochi o a molti: aiutaci, o Dio Signore nostro, poichè avendo fiducia in te e nel tuo nome, movemmo incontro a queste moltitudini. Signore, tu sei il nostro Dio; che nessuno prevalga sopra di te».
12 and Asa pursued them with his army as far as Gerar. So many of the Cushites fel that they wereunable to survive. They were cut to pieces by Yahweh and his army. They carried off a great deal of booty,	12 E il Signore atterrì così gli Etiopi al cospetto di Asa e di Giuda, che gli Etiopi si misero in fuga;
13 they destroyed al the towns round Gerar -- for a panic from Yahweh had seized the towns -- andplundered all the towns since they were ful of loot.	13 Asa col popolo che era con lui li inseguì fino a Gerara, e gli Etiopi vennero sterminati, poichè furon fatti a pezzi dal Signore e dal suo esercito che combatteva. [Giuda e Beniamino] ne riportarono poi molto bottino.
14 They also routed the cattle-owners and carried off great numbers of sheep and camels; then theyreturned to Jerusalem.	14 Abbatterono pure tutte le città dei dintorni di Gerara, perchè tutti erano stati colpiti da un terrore spaventevole e le città furono saccheggiate e ne fu riportata una gran preda.
	15 Distrussero eziandio i chiusi degli armenti e ne trassero infinita quantità di pecore e di cammelli e fecero ritorno a Gerusalemme.
