2 Chronicles 14

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Asa did what Yahweh his God regards as good and right.	1 Asá hizo lo que era bueno y recto a los ojos del Señor, su Dios.
2 He abolished the foreign altars and the high places, broke the pil ars, cut down the sacred poles,	2 Suprimió los altares de los cultos extranjeros y los lugares altos; rompió las piedras conmemorativas y los pilares sagrados,
3 and urged Judah to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, and to observe the law and commandment.	3 y exhortó a Judá a buscar al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, y a practicar la Ley y los mandamientos.
4 Because he abolished the high places and incense altars through the towns of Judah, the kingdomunder him was undisturbed.	4 Mandó suprimir de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y los altares de incienso; y el reino estuvo en paz bajo su reinado.
5 He rebuilt the fortified towns of Judah, since the country was at peace and free of war during thoseyears, because Yahweh had granted him peace.	5 Edificó ciudades fortificadas en Judá, porque el país estaba en paz, y durante aquellos años nadie le hizo la guerra ya que el Señor le había dado tranquilidad.
6 'Let us rebuild these towns,' he told Judah, 'let us surround them with wal and tower, with gate andbar while the country is still ours, for we have sought Yahweh our God and he has sought us and given us peaceal around.' They built and prospered.	6 Entonces Asá dijo a Judá: «Construyamos estas ciudades, rodeándolas de murallas, torres, puertas y cerrojos. Tenemos el país a nuestra disposición, porque hemos buscado al Señor, nuestro Dios, y por eso, él nos ha buscado a nosotros y nos ha dado tranquilidad por todas partes». Y ellos construyeron las ciudades con todo éxito.
7 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men of Judah armed with shields and spears and twohundred and eighty thousand men of Benjamin armed with shields and bows, al of them outstanding soldiers.	7 Asá tenía en Judá un ejército de trescientos mil hombres, provistos de escudos grandes y lanzas, y otro en Benjamín, de doscientos ochenta mil hombres armados con escudos pequeños y arcos. Todos ellos eran guerreros valerosos.
8 Zerah the Cushite took the field against them with an army a mil ion strong and three hundredchariots, and penetrated to Mareshah.	8 Zéraj, el cusita, avanzó contra ellos con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros de guerra, y llegó hasta Maresá.
9 Asa took the field against him and the battle-lines were drawn up in the Valley of Zephathah, atMareshah.	9 Asá salió a su encuentro, y ambos se dispusieron para el combate en el valle de Sefatá, junto a Maresá.
10 Asa then cal ed on Yahweh his God and said, 'Yahweh, numbers and strength make no difference toyou when you give your help. Help us, Yahweh our God, for, relying on you, we are confronting this horde inyour name. Yahweh, you are our God. Human strength cannot prevail against you!'	10 Entonces Asá invocó al Señor, su Dios, diciendo: «¡Tú solo, Señor, puedes ayudar al débil contra el fuerte! ¡Ayúdanos, Señor, Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos y en tu Nombre marchamos contra esta inmensa muchedumbre! ¡Señor, tú eres nuestro Dios! ¡Que ningún mortal prevalezca contra ti!».
11 Yahweh routed the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled,	11 El Señor derrotó a los cusitas delante de Asá y de Judá, y los cusitas huyeron.
12 and Asa pursued them with his army as far as Gerar. So many of the Cushites fel that they wereunable to survive. They were cut to pieces by Yahweh and his army. They carried off a great deal of booty,	12 Asá y las tropas que lo acompañaban, los persiguieron hasta Guerar. Cayeron tantos etíopes que no quedó ningún sobreviviente, porque quedaron destrozados delante del Señor y de su campamento. Los hombres de Judá recogieron un enorme botín.
13 they destroyed al the towns round Gerar -- for a panic from Yahweh had seized the towns -- andplundered all the towns since they were ful of loot.	13 También derrotaron a todas las ciudades de los alrededores de Guerar, porque el terror del Señor se había apoderado de ellas, y las saquearon ya que había en ellas un gran botín.
14 They also routed the cattle-owners and carried off great numbers of sheep and camels; then theyreturned to Jerusalem.	14 Atacaron asimismo los campamentos de los que apacentaban los rebaños, y se llevaron una gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Después regresaron a Jerusalén.
