2 Chronicles 14

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Asa did what Yahweh his God regards as good and right.	1 Asá hizo lo que era bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahveh su Dios.
2 He abolished the foreign altars and the high places, broke the pil ars, cut down the sacred poles,	2 Suprimió los altares del culto extranjero y los altos; rompió las estelas, abatió los cipos,
3 and urged Judah to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, and to observe the law and commandment.	3 y mandó a Judá que buscase a Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres, y cumpliese la ley y los mandamientos.
4 Because he abolished the high places and incense altars through the towns of Judah, the kingdomunder him was undisturbed.	4 Hizo desaparecer de todas las ciudades de Judá los altos y los altares de incienso; y el reino estuvo en paz bajo su reinado.
5 He rebuilt the fortified towns of Judah, since the country was at peace and free of war during thoseyears, because Yahweh had granted him peace.	5 Edificó ciudades fuertes en Judá, porque el país estaba en paz, y no hubo guerra contra él por aquellos años; pues Yahveh le había dado tranquilidad.
6 'Let us rebuild these towns,' he told Judah, 'let us surround them with wal and tower, with gate andbar while the country is still ours, for we have sought Yahweh our God and he has sought us and given us peaceal around.' They built and prospered.	6 Dijo a Judá: «Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y cerquémoslas de murallas, torres, puertas y barras, mientras el país esté a nuestra disposición; pues hemos buscado a Yahveh, nuestro Dios, y por haberle buscado, él nos ha dado paz por todas partes». Edificaron, pues y prosperaron.
7 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men of Judah armed with shields and spears and twohundred and eighty thousand men of Benjamin armed with shields and bows, al of them outstanding soldiers.	7 Asá tenía un ejército de 300.000 hombres de Judá, que llevaban pavés y lanza, y 280.000 de Benjamín, que llevaban escudo y eran arqueros; todos ellos esforzados guerreros.
8 Zerah the Cushite took the field against them with an army a mil ion strong and three hundredchariots, and penetrated to Mareshah.	8 Salió contra ellos Zéraj el etíope, con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros, y llegó hasta Maresá.
9 Asa took the field against him and the battle-lines were drawn up in the Valley of Zephathah, atMareshah.	9 Salió Asá contra él y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefatá, junto a Maresá.
10 Asa then cal ed on Yahweh his God and said, 'Yahweh, numbers and strength make no difference toyou when you give your help. Help us, Yahweh our God, for, relying on you, we are confronting this horde inyour name. Yahweh, you are our God. Human strength cannot prevail against you!'	10 Asá invocó a Yahveh su Dios, y dijo: «¡Oh Yahveh, sólo tú puedes ayudar entre el poderoso y el desvalido! ¡Ayúdanos, pues, Yahveh, Dios nuestro, porque en ti nos apoyamos y en tu nombre marchamos contra esta inmensa muchedumbre! ¡Yahveh, tú eres nuestro Dios! ¡No prevalezca contra ti hombre alguno!»
11 Yahweh routed the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled,	11 Yahveh derrotó a los etíopes ante Asá y Judá; y los etíopes se pusieron en fuga.
12 and Asa pursued them with his army as far as Gerar. So many of the Cushites fel that they wereunable to survive. They were cut to pieces by Yahweh and his army. They carried off a great deal of booty,	12 Asá y la gente que con él estaba los persiguieron hasta Guerar; y cayeron de los etíopes hasta no quedar uno vivo, pues fueron destrozados delante de Yahveh y su campamento; y se recogió un botín inmenso.
13 they destroyed al the towns round Gerar -- for a panic from Yahweh had seized the towns -- andplundered all the towns since they were ful of loot.	13 Batieron todas las ciudades de los alrededores de Guerar, porque el terror de Yahveh cayó sobre ellas; y saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había en ellas gran botín.
14 They also routed the cattle-owners and carried off great numbers of sheep and camels; then theyreturned to Jerusalem.	14 Asimismo atacaron las majadas y capturaron gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Después se volvieron a Jerusalén.
