1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah, of Bozkath.	1 Josia aveva otto anni quando principiò a regnare, e regnò anni trentuno in Gerusalemme: sua madre ebbe nome Idida figliuola di Hadaia di Besecath.
2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, and in every respect fol owed the example of his ancestor David,not deviating from it to right or left.	2 Ed egli fece quello, che era accetto nel cospetto del Signore, e imitò in tutto Davidde suo padre senza piegare né a destra, né a sinistra.
3 In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent the secretary Shaphan son of Azaliah, son ofMeshullam to the Temple of Yahweh.	3 E l'anno decimo ottavo del re Josia, egli mandò Saphan figliuolo di Assia, figliuolo di Messula, scrivano del tempio del Signore, e gli disse:
4 'Go to Hilkiah the high priest,' he told him, 'and tel him to melt down the silver contributed to theTemple of Yahweh and col ected by the guardians of the threshold from the people.	4 Va da Helcia sommo Sacerdote, affinchè si fonda l'argento, che è stato portato al tempio del Signore, e ricevuto da' portinaj del tempio dalle mani del popolo,
5 He is to hand it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, for them to pay it overto men working on the Temple of Yahweh, to repair the damaged parts of the Temple:	5 E diasi agl'impresari dai prefetti della casa del Signore, i quali andranno pagando gli operai, che lavorano nel tempio del Signore ai risarcimenti del tempio;
6 to the carpenters, builders and masons, and for buying timber and dressed stone for the Templerepairs.'	6 Viene a dire, i legnaiuoli, e muratori, e quei, che rassettano, che v'è diguasto; e ne compreranno i legnami, e le pietre dalle cave pel ristoramento del tempio del Signore.
7 The latter were not required to render account of the money handed over to them, since they wereconscientious in their work.	7 Ma non si tengano a conto pel denaro, che riceveranno, ma lo maneggino liberamente sulla loro fede.
8 The high priest Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, 'I have found the Book of the Law in the Templeof Yahweh.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.	8 Or Helcia Pontefice disse a Saphan scrivano: Ho trovato nella casa del Signore il libro della legge. E diede Helcia il volume a Saphan, il quale ancora lo lesse.
9 Shaphan the secretary went to the king, reporting furthermore to him as fol ows, 'Your servants havemelted down the silver which was in the Temple and have handed it over to the masters of works attached to theTemple of Yahweh.'	9 Indi Saphan scrivano tornò al re, e gli diede parte di quello, che si era fatto secondo gli ordini ricevuti da lui, e disse: I tuoi servi hanno fuso l'argento, che si è trovato nella casa del Signore: e lo hanno dato ai prefetti de' lavori del tempio del Signore, per distribuirlo agli impresari.
10 Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read it aloud in the king's presence.	10 E oltre a questo Saphan scrivano raccontò, e disse al re: Helcia sommo Sacerdote mi ha dato un libro. E Saphan avendolo letto alla presenza del re,
11 On hearing the words of the Book of the Law he tore his clothes.	11 E avendo il re udite le parole della legge del Signore, stracciò le sue vesti,
12 Then the king gave the fol owing order to the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son ofMicaiah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister:	12 E ordinò, e disse ad Helcia sommo Sacerdote, e ad Ahicam figliuolo di Saphan, e ad Achobor figliuolo di Micha, e Saphan scrivano, e ad Asaia ministro del re:
13 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and the people about the words of the book that has beendiscovered; for Yahweh's furious wrath has been kindled against us because our ancestors disobeyed the wordof Yahweh by not doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	13 Andate, e consultate il Signore sopra di me, e sopra del popolo, e sopra tutto Giuda riguardo alle parole di questo libro, che si è trovato: imperocché l'ira grande del Signore è accesa contro di noi; perchè i padri nostri non hanno ascoltate le parole di questo libro, per mettere in opera tutto quello, che fu scritto per noi.
14 The priest Hilkiah, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan and Asaiah went to the prophetess Huldah wife ofShal um son of Tikvah, son of Harhas the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. Theyput the matter to her,	14 Andaron pertanto Helcia Sacerdote, e Ahicam, e Achobor, e Saphan, e Asaia a casa di Holda profetessa, moglie di Sellum, figliuolo di Thecua, figliuolo di Araas Guardarobba, la quale abitava in Gerusalemme nella Seconda: e parlarono con lei.
15 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me say this:	15 Ed ella rispose loro: Il Signore Dio d'Israele dice così. Dite a lui, che vi ha mandati da me:
16 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thewords of the book read by the king of Judah.	16 Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco, che io manderò sciagure sopra di questo luogo, e sopra i suoi abitanti, adempiendo tutte le parole della legge lette dal re di Giuda;
17 Because they have abandoned me and sacrificed to other gods, so as to provoke my anger by theirevery action, my wrath is kindled against this place, and nothing can stop it.	17 Perchè eglino hanno abbandonato me, e hanno offerti sagrifizi agli dei stranieri, provocandomi a sdegno con tutte le opere delle loro mani: e il mio sdegno si accenderà in questo luogo, e non si estinguerà più.
18 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: As regards the words youhave heard . . .	18 Ma al re di Giuda, il quale vi ha mandati a consultare il Signore, direte così: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Perchè tu hai ascoltate le parole di questo libro,
19 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before Yahweh on hearingwhat I have decreed against this place and the people who live in it, how they wil become an object of horrorand cursing, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I too have heard -- Yahweh says this.	19 E il tuo cuore si é sbigottito, e ti sei umiliato dinanzi al Signore, avendo udito quello, che è stato detto contro di questo luogo, e contro i suoi abitatori, viene a dire, ch'ei diverranno oggetto di stupore, e di maledizione; e hai stracciate le tue vesti, e hai pianto dinanzi a me; io pur ti ho ascoltato, dice il Signore.
20 So look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you willnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place." ' They took this answer to the king.	20 Per questo ti riunirò co' padri tuoi, e in pace te n'anderai al tuo sepolcro, affinchè tu non abbi a vedere cogli occhi tuoi tutti que' mali, ch'io pioverò sopra di questo luogo.
