NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah, of Bozkath.	1 Josias avait huit ans à son avènement et il régna 31 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère s'appelait Yedida, fillede Adaya, et était de Boçqat.
2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, and in every respect fol owed the example of his ancestor David,not deviating from it to right or left.	2 Il fit ce qui est agréable à Yahvé et imita en tout la conduite de son ancêtre David, sans en dévier nià droite ni à gauche.
3 In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent the secretary Shaphan son of Azaliah, son ofMeshullam to the Temple of Yahweh.	3 En la dix-huitième année du roi Josias, le roi envoya le secrétaire Shaphân, fils d'Açalyahu fils deMeshullam, au Temple de Yahvé:
4 'Go to Hilkiah the high priest,' he told him, 'and tel him to melt down the silver contributed to theTemple of Yahweh and col ected by the guardians of the threshold from the people.	4 "Monte, lui dit-il, chez le grand prêtre Hilqiyyahu pour qu'il fonde l'argent qui a été apporté auTemple de Yahvé et que les gardiens du seuil ont recueilli du peuple.
5 He is to hand it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, for them to pay it overto men working on the Temple of Yahweh, to repair the damaged parts of the Temple:	5 Qu'il le remette aux maîtres d'oeuvre attachés au Temple de Yahvé et que ceux-ci le dépensent pourles ouvriers qui travaillent aux réparations dans le Temple de Yahvé,
6 to the carpenters, builders and masons, and for buying timber and dressed stone for the Templerepairs.'	6 pour les charpentiers, les ouvriers du bâtiment et les maçons, pour acheter le bois et les pierres detaille destinés à la réparation du Temple.
7 The latter were not required to render account of the money handed over to them, since they wereconscientious in their work.	7 Mais qu'on ne leur demande pas compte de l'argent qui leur est remis, car ils agissent avec probité."
8 The high priest Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, 'I have found the Book of the Law in the Templeof Yahweh.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.	8 Le grand prêtre Hilqiyyahu dit au secrétaire Shaphân: "J'ai trouvé le livre de la Loi dans le Templede Yahvé." Et Hilqiyyahu donna le livre à Shaphân, qui le lut.
9 Shaphan the secretary went to the king, reporting furthermore to him as fol ows, 'Your servants havemelted down the silver which was in the Temple and have handed it over to the masters of works attached to theTemple of Yahweh.'	9 Le secrétaire Shaphân vint chez le roi et lui rapporta ceci: "Tes serviteurs, dit-il, ont fondu l'argentqui se trouvait dans le Temple et l'ont remis aux maîtres d'oeuvres attachés au Temple de Yahvé."
10 Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read it aloud in the king's presence.	10 Puis le secrétaire Shaphân annonça au roi: "Le prêtre Hilqiyyahu m'a donné un livre" et Shaphân lelut devant le roi.
11 On hearing the words of the Book of the Law he tore his clothes.	11 En entendant les paroles contenues dans le livre de la Loi, le roi déchira ses vêtements.
12 Then the king gave the fol owing order to the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son ofMicaiah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister:	12 Il donna cet ordre au prêtre Hilqiyyahu, à Ahiqam fils de Shaphân, à Akbor fils de Mikaya, ausecrétaire Shaphân, et à Asaya, ministre du roi:
13 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and the people about the words of the book that has beendiscovered; for Yahweh's furious wrath has been kindled against us because our ancestors disobeyed the wordof Yahweh by not doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	13 "Allez consulter Yahvé pour moi et pour le peuple, à propos des paroles de ce livre qui vient d'êtretrouvé. Grande doit être la colère de Yahvé, qui s'est enflammée contre nous parce que nos pères n'ont pas obéiaux paroles de ce livre, en pratiquant tout ce qui y est écrit."
14 The priest Hilkiah, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan and Asaiah went to the prophetess Huldah wife ofShal um son of Tikvah, son of Harhas the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. 15 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me say this:	15 et elle leur répondit: "Ainsi parle Yahvé, Dieu d'Israël. Dites à l'homme qui vous a envoyés versmoi:
16 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thewords of the book read by the king of Judah.	16 Ainsi parle Yahvé. Je vais amener le malheur sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants, tout ce que dit le livrequ'a lu le roi de Juda,
17 Because they have abandoned me and sacrificed to other gods, so as to provoke my anger by theirevery action, my wrath is kindled against this place, and nothing can stop it.	17 parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et qu'ils ont sacrifié à d'autres dieux, pour m'irriter par leurs actions.Ma colère s'est enflammée contre ce lieu, elle ne s'éteindra pas.
18 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: As regards the words youhave heard . . .	18 Et vous direz au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour consulter Yahvé: Ainsi parle Yahvé, Dieud'Israël: Les paroles que tu as entendues...
19 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before Yahweh on hearingwhat I have decreed against this place and the people who live in it, how they wil become an object of horrorand cursing, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I too have heard -- Yahweh says this.	19 Mais parce que ton coeur a été touché et que tu t'es humilié devant Yahvé en entendant ce que j'aiprononcé contre ce lieu et ses habitants qui deviendront un objet d'épouvante et de malédiction, et parce que tuas déchiré tes vêtements et pleuré devant moi, moi aussi, j'ai entendu, oracle de Yahvé.
20 So look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you willnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place." ' They took this answer to the king.	20 C'est pourquoi je te réunirai à tes pères, tu seras recueilli en paix dans ton sépulcre, tes yeux neverront pas tous les malheurs que je fais venir sur ce lieu." Ils portèrent la réponse au roi.
