1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah, of Bozkath.	1 Josias avait 8 ans lorsqu’il monta sur le trône, il régna 31 ans à Jérusalem; sa mère était Yédida, fille d’Adayas, de Boskat.
2 He did what Yahweh regards as right, and in every respect fol owed the example of his ancestor David,not deviating from it to right or left.	2 Il fit ce qui est juste au regard de Yahvé et il marcha sur les traces de David, son ancêtre, ne s’en détournant ni à droite ni à gauche.
3 In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent the secretary Shaphan son of Azaliah, son ofMeshullam to the Temple of Yahweh.	3 En la dix-huitième année du roi Josias, le roi envoya le secrétaire Chafan, fils d’Asalyas, fils de Méchoullam, au Temple de Yahvé.
4 'Go to Hilkiah the high priest,' he told him, 'and tel him to melt down the silver contributed to theTemple of Yahweh and col ected by the guardians of the threshold from the people.	4 Il lui dit: “Va trouver le grand prêtre Hilkiyas. Qu’il fasse le compte exact de l’argent qui a été apporté au Temple de Yahvé et que les gardiens de la porte ont reçu du peuple.
5 He is to hand it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, for them to pay it overto men working on the Temple of Yahweh, to repair the damaged parts of the Temple:	5 Il le remettra à ceux qui s’occupent des travaux, à ceux qui ont la charge de la Maison de Yahvé. Ils le donneront aux ouvriers qui font le travail dans la Maison de Yahvé et qui réparent les dégâts de la Maison,
6 to the carpenters, builders and masons, and for buying timber and dressed stone for the Templerepairs.'	6 aux charpentiers, aux constructeurs et aux maçons, et l’on achètera également le bois et les pierres de taille pour réparer la Maison.
7 The latter were not required to render account of the money handed over to them, since they wereconscientious in their work.	7 Mais ne faites pas de comptes avec eux, à propos de cet argent qu’on leur a confié, car ce sont des gens honnêtes.”
8 The high priest Hilkiah said to Shaphan the secretary, 'I have found the Book of the Law in the Templeof Yahweh.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, who read it.	8 Le grand prêtre Hilkiyas dit alors au secrétaire Chafan: “Dans la Maison de Yahvé, j’ai trouvé le livre de la Loi.” Puis il donna le livre à Chafan, qui le lut.
9 Shaphan the secretary went to the king, reporting furthermore to him as fol ows, 'Your servants havemelted down the silver which was in the Temple and have handed it over to the masters of works attached to theTemple of Yahweh.'	9 Le secrétaire Chafan se rendit alors auprès du roi et lui fit son rapport. Il lui dit: “Tes serviteurs ont versé l’argent qui se trouvait dans la Maison et ils l’ont remis aux mains des ouvriers qui sont chargés de la Maison de Yahvé.”
10 Then Shaphan the secretary informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read it aloud in the king's presence.	10 Puis le secrétaire Chafan annonça la nouvelle au roi: “Le prêtre Hilkiyas, lui dit-il, m’a donné un livre.” Et Chafan le lut en présence du roi.
11 On hearing the words of the Book of the Law he tore his clothes.	11 Lorsque le roi entendit les paroles du livre de la Loi, il déchira ses habits.
12 Then the king gave the fol owing order to the priest Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son ofMicaiah, Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister:	12 Le roi donna cet ordre au prêtre Hilkiyas, à Ahikam fils de Chafan, à Akbor fils de Mikayas, au secrétaire Chafan et au ministre du roi Asaya:
13 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and the people about the words of the book that has beendiscovered; for Yahweh's furious wrath has been kindled against us because our ancestors disobeyed the wordof Yahweh by not doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	13 “Allez consulter Yahvé pour moi, pour le peuple, pour tout Juda, au sujet des paroles de ce livre que l’on a trouvé. Yahvé doit être prêt à décharger sur nous toute sa colère, parce que nos pères n’ont pas obéi aux paroles de ce livre et n’ont pas mis en pratique tout ce qui y est écrit.”
14 The priest Hilkiah, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan and Asaiah went to the prophetess Huldah wife ofShal um son of Tikvah, son of Harhas the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. Theyput the matter to her,	14 Alors le prêtre Hilkiyas, Ahikam, Akbor, Chafan et Asaya se rendirent auprès de la prophétesse Houlda; elle était femme de Challoum, fils de Tikva, fils de Harhas, le gardien des vêtements, et elle habitait à Jérusalem dans le quartier neuf. Lorsqu’ils la mirent au courant,
15 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me say this:	15 elle leur répondit: “Voici ce que dit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël: Rapportez à l’homme qui vous a envoyés vers moi
16 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thewords of the book read by the king of Judah.	16 cette parole de Yahvé: ‘Je vais faire venir sur ce lieu et sur ses habitants tous les malheurs annoncés dans le livre qu’a lu le roi de Juda.
17 Because they have abandoned me and sacrificed to other gods, so as to provoke my anger by theirevery action, my wrath is kindled against this place, and nothing can stop it.	17 Car ils m’ont abandonné et ils ont offert de l’encens à d’autres dieux. Ils m’ont mis en colère par leur conduite: ma colère contre ce lieu est devenue un feu qui ne s’éteindra pas.’
18 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: As regards the words youhave heard . . .	18 Quant au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyés pour consulter Yahvé, vous lui redirez cette parole de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël:
19 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before Yahweh on hearingwhat I have decreed against this place and the people who live in it, how they wil become an object of horrorand cursing, and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I too have heard -- Yahweh says this.	19 ‘Ton cœur a été touché et tu t’es humilié devant Yahvé en entendant ce que j’ai dit contre ce lieu et ses habitants, que leur sort serait épouvantable, une vraie malédiction. Tu as déchiré tes habits et tu as pleuré devant moi, et je t’ai entendu - oracle de Yahvé!
20 So look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you willnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place." ' They took this answer to the king.	20 C’est pourquoi je te réunirai à tes pères et je te ferai déposer en paix dans la tombe: ainsi tu ne verras pas tous les malheurs que je fais venir sur ce lieu.’ ” Ils rapportèrent au roi cette réponse.
