NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah son of Ahaz became king of Judah.	1 L'anno terzo di Osea figlio di Eia re d'Israele, regnò Ezechia figlio di Acaz re di Giuda.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-nine years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Abijah daughter of Zechariah.	2 Egli aveva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò ventinove anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Ahi, figlia di Zaccaria.
3 He did what Yahweh regards as right, just as his ancestor David had done.	3 Egli fece quel che era buono nel cospetto del Signore, secondo tutto quello che aveva fatto David suo padre:
4 He abolished the high places, broke the pil ars, cut down the sacred poles and smashed the bronzeserpent which Moses had made; for up to that time the Israelites had offered sacrifices to it; it was cal edNehushtan.	4 distrusse gli alti luoghi, spezzò le statue, tagliò i boschetti sacri; fece in pezzi il serpente di bronzo che aveva fatto Mosè, perchè fino a quel tempo i figli d'Israele gli bruciavano incensi, e lo chiamò Nohestan.
5 He put his trust in Yahweh, God of Israel. No king of Judah after him could be compared with him -- norany of those before him.	5 Egli sperò nel Signore Dio d'Israele, tanto che non ci fu uno simile a lui tra i re di Giuda, nè tra quelli che gli successero, nè tra quelli che lo precedettero.
6 He was devoted to Yahweh, never turning from him, but keeping the commandments which Yahwehhad laid down for Moses.	6 Unito al Signore, senza allontanarsi da lui, osservò i comandamenti che il Signore aveva dati a Mosè.
7 And so Yahweh was with him, and he was successful in al that he undertook. He rebelled against theking of Assyria and refused to serve him.	7 Per questo il Signore era con lui che saggiamente riusciva in tutto quello che intraprendeva. Egli si ribellò al re d'Assiria, e non gli stette più soggetto;
8 He beat the Philistines back to Gaza, laying their territory waste from watchtower to fortified town.	8 percosse i Filistei fino a Gaza e tutti i loro territori, dalla torre di guardia alla città fortificata.
9 In the fourth year of Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel,Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched on Samaria and laid siege to it.	9 L'anno quarto del re Ezechia, che era l'anno settimo di Osea figlio di Eia re d'Israele, Salmanasar re degli Assiri salì a Samaria e l'assediò

12 This happened because they had not obeyed the voice of Yahweh their God and had broken hiscovenant, everything that Moses servant of Yahweh had laid down. They neither listened to it nor put it intopractice.	12 perchè essi non diedero ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio loro, ne trasgredirono il patto, non ascoltarono e non fecero nulla di quello che Mosè servo del Signore aveva comandato.
13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced on al the fortifiedtowns of Judah and captured them.	13 L'anno decimoquarto del re Ezechia, Sennacherib re d'Assiria salì contro tutte le città forti di Giuda e le prese.
14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent this message to the king of Assyria at Lachish, 'I have been atfault. Cal off the attack, and I wil submit to whatever you impose on me.' The king of Assyria exacted threehundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold from Hezekiah king of Judah,	14 Allora Ezechia re di Giuda mandò ambasciatori al re d'Assiria a Lachis, a dirgli: « Ho peccato; pàrtiti da me, ed io sopporterò tutto quello che m'imporrai ». Avendo il re d'Assiria imposto ad Ezechia re di Giuda trecento talenti d'argento e trenta talenti d'oro,
15 and Hezekiah gave him al the silver in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palace treasury.	15 il re Ezechia diede tutto l'argento che potè trovare nella casa del Signore e nei tesori del re.
16 At which time, Hezekiah stripped the facing from the leaves and jambs of the doors of the Temple ofYahweh, which an earlier king of Judah had put on, and gave it to the king of Assyria.	16 Fu allora che Ezechia spezzò le porte del tempio del Signore e le lamine d'oro che egli stesso vi aveva fisse, e le diede al re d'Assiria.
17 From Lachish the king of Assyria sent the cupbearer-in-chief with a large force to King Hezekiah inJerusalem. He marched on Jerusalem and, on his arrival, took up position near the conduit of the upper poolwhich is on the road to the Ful er's Field.	17 Ma il re di Assiria mandò da Lachis il Tartan, il Rabsaris e il Rabsace al re Ezechia a Gerusalemme con forte armata. 18 He summoned the king. The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebnah the secretary andthe herald Joah son of Asaph went out to him.	18 e chiamarono il re. Il maggiordomo Eliacim figlio di Elcia, con Sobna segretario e coll'archivista Ioahe figlio di Asaf, uscì verso di essi.
19 The cupbearer-in-chief said to them, 'Say to Hezekiah, "The great king, the king of Assyria, says this:What makes you so confident?	19 Il Rabsace disse loro: «Dite ad Ezechia: Ecco quanto dice il gran re, il re d'Assiria: Qual'è mai la speranza su cui ti fondi?
20 Do you think empty words are as good as strategy and military strength? Who are you relying on, todare to rebel against me?	20 Forse hai deciso di prepararti alla battaglia? E in che confidi, per ardire di ribellarti?
21 There you are, relying on that broken reed Egypt, which pricks and pierces the hand of whoever leanson it. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt is like to al who rely on him.	21 Speri forse in quel pezzo di canna rotta che è l'Egitto, sopra il quale se uno s'appoggia, essa si romperà, gli si ficcherà nella mano e la forerà? Tale è Faraone re d'Egitto per tutti quelli che si fidano in lui.
22 You may say to me: We rely on Yahweh our God. But have his high places and altars not beensuppressed by Hezekiah who told Judah and Jerusalem: Here, in Jerusalem, is the altar before which you mustworship?	22 Forse mi direte: Noi abbiamo fiducia nel Signore Dio nostro. E non è quello stesso di cui Ezechia ha distrutti gli alti luoghi e gli altari, intimando a Giuda e a Gerusalemme: Voi adorerete soltanto dinanzi a quest'altare in Gerusalemme?
23 Very well, then, make a wager with my lord the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses ifyou can find horsemen to ride them.	23 Or dunque passate al mio signore, al re d'Assiria e vi darò due mila cavalli. Guardate di poter trovare chi li cavalchi.
24 How could you repel a single one of the least of my master's soldiers? And yet you have relied onEgypt for chariots and horsemen.	24 E come potreste voi resistere davanti ad un solo satrapo preso tra i minimi servi del re mio signore? Ti fidi nell'Egitto per i carri e i cavalieri?
25 And lastly, have I marched on this place to lay it waste without warrant from Yahweh? Yahwehhimself said to me: March on this country and lay it waste." '	25 Afa è forse senza la volontà del Signore, che io son salito in questo luogo per distruggerlo? Il Signore mi ha detto: Va in quel paese e devastalo ».
26 Eliakim, Shebnah and Joah said to the cupbearer-in-chief, 'Please speak to your servants in Aramaic,for we understand it; do not speak to us in the Judaean language within earshot of the people on the ramparts.'	26 Eliacim figlio di Elcia, e Sobna e Ioahe dissero al Rabsace: « Parla a noi tuoi servi in siriaco, te ne preghiamo, chè intendiamo bene tal lingua, non ci parlare in ebraico, da far capire al popolo che sta sulle mura ».
27 But the cupbearer-in-chief said, 'Do you think my lord sent me here to say these things to your masteror to you? On the contrary, it was to the people sitting on the ramparts who, like you, are doomed to eat theirown dung and drink their own urine.'	27 Ma il Rabsace rispose loro dicendo: « Il mio signore mi ha forse mandato a dir queste cose al tuo signore e a te, o non piuttosto a quegli uomini che stanno sopra le mura a mangiare i propri escrementi e a bere con voi la propria orina? »
28 The cupbearer-in-chief then drew himself up and shouted loudly in the Judaean language, 'Listen tothe word of the great king, the king of Assyria.	28 Allora Rabsace si alzò e gridò ad alta voce in ebraico: « Udite le parole del grande re di Assiria.
29 The king says this, "Do not let Hezekiah delude you. He wil be powerless to save you from myclutches.	29 Ecco quanto dice il re: Non vi seduca Ezechia, il quale non potrà liberarvi dalla mia mano;
30 Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on Yahweh by saying: Yahweh is sure to save us; this citywil not fal into the king of Assyria's clutches.	30 non vi ispiri fiducia nel Signore, col dire: Il Signore ci libererà di sicuro, e questa città non sarà data in mano del re di Assiria.
31 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says this: Make peace with me, surrender to me, andevery one of you wil be free to eat the fruit of his own vine and of his own fig tree and to drink the water of hisown storage-wel	31 Non date retta ad Ezechia. Ecco adunque quello che dice il re d'Assiria: Fate con me ciò che vi è utile e arrendetevi, e ciascuno potrà mangiare della sua vigna e del suo fico, e bere le acque delle vostre cisterne,
32 until I come and take you away to a country like your own, a land of corn and good wine, a land ofbread and vineyards, a land of oil and honey: and so you wil survive and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah; he isdeluding you when he says: Yahweh wil save us.	32 finchè io venga a trasportarvi in una terra simile alla vostra, in una terra feconda e fertile di vino, in una terra abbondante di pane e di uve, in una terra di ulive e di olio, e di miele e voi vivrete e non morrete. Non date retta ad Ezechia il quale vi inganna col dire: Il Signore ci libererà.
33 Has any god of any nation been able to save his country from the king of Assyria's clutches?	33 Han forse gli dèi delle genti liberato la loro terra dalla mano del re degli Assiri?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim and Hena and Ivvah?Where are the local gods of Samaria? Did they save Samaria from my clutches?	34 D'ov'è il Dio di Emat e di Arfad? Dov'è il Dio di Sefarvaim, di Ana, di Ava? Han forse liberata Samaria dalla mia mano?
35 Of al the local gods, which ones have saved their countries from my clutches, for Yahweh to be ableto save Jerusalem from my clutches?" '	35 Quali sono fra tutti gli dèi della terra quelli che abbiano liberato il loro paese dalla mia mano, perchè il Signore possa liberare dalla mia mano Gerusalemme? »
36 The people, however, kept quiet and said nothing in reply, since the king had given the order, 'Youare not to answer him.'	36 Il popolo tacque e non gli rispose nulla, perchè dal re aveva ricevuto l'ordine di non rispondere.
37 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebnah the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph, with their clothes torn, went to Hezekiah and reported what the cupbearer-in-chief had said.	37 Il maggiordomo Eliacim figlio d'Elcia, il segretario Sobna e l'archivista Ioahe figlio di Asaf, tornarono da Ezechia colle vesti stracciate a riferire le parole del Rabsace.
