NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 In the third year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel, Hezekiah son of Ahaz became king of Judah.	1 - Nell'anno terzo di Osea figlio di Ela, re d'Israele, cominciò a regnare Ezechia figlio di Acaz, re di Giuda.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-nine years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Abijah daughter of Zechariah.	2 Aveva venticinque anni quando salì sul trono e regnò in Gerusalemme per ventinove anni. Sua madre si chiamò Abi figlia di Zaccaria.
3 He did what Yahweh regards as right, just as his ancestor David had done.	3 Fece in tutto ciò che è giusto al cospetto del Signore, come avea fatto Davide suo padre.
4 He abolished the high places, broke the pil ars, cut down the sacred poles and smashed the bronzeserpent which Moses had made; for up to that time the Israelites had offered sacrifices to it; it was cal edNehushtan.	4 Egli distrusse gli alti luoghi, spezzò le statue, tagliò i boschi sacri e mise a pezzi il serpente di bronzo fatto da Mosè, perchè ad esso i figli d'Israele bruciavano fino a quel tempo incensi e lo chiamò col nome di Noestan.
5 He put his trust in Yahweh, God of Israel. No king of Judah after him could be compared with him -- norany of those before him.	5 Sperò nel Signore Dio di Israele e fra tutti i re di Giuda, che vennero dopo di lui e che lo precedettero non ve ne fu uno a lui somigliante.
6 He was devoted to Yahweh, never turning from him, but keeping the commandments which Yahwehhad laid down for Moses.	6 Egli stette attaccato al Signore, nè si allontanò mai dalle sue vestigia, ma fece quanto il Signore avea comandato a Mosè.
7 And so Yahweh was with him, and he was successful in al that he undertook. He rebelled against theking of Assyria and refused to serve him.	7 Perciò anche il Signore fu con lui, e in tutte le sue imprese si comportò con saggezza. Si ribellò pure al re di Assiria e non gli fu più soggetto.
8 He beat the Philistines back to Gaza, laying their territory waste from watchtower to fortified town.	8 Egli battè i Filistei fino a Gaza e in tutti i loro confini, dalla torre di guardia fino alla città fortificata.
9 In the fourth year of Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah, king of Israel,Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched on Samaria and laid siege to it.	9 Nell'anno quarto del re Ezechia, cioè nell'anno settimo di Osea figlio di Ela, re d'Israele, il re di Assiria, Salmanasar, salì contro Samaria, che espugnò
10 He captured it after three years. Samaria fel in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year ofHoshea king of Israel.	10 e prese; e di fatto dopo tre anni, cioè nell'anno sesto di Ezechia, ossia nell'anno nono di Osea, re d'Israele, Samaria fu presa.
11 The king of Assyria deported the Israelites to Assyria and settled them in Halah on the Habor, a riverof Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.	11 Il re d'Assiria allora trasferì gli Israeliti in Assiria e li collocò in Ala e in Abor presso il fiume di Gozan e nelle città della Media,
12 This happened because they had not obeyed the voice of Yahweh their God and had broken hiscovenant, everything that Moses servant of Yahweh had laid down. They neither listened to it nor put it intopractice.	12 perchè non avevano ascoltato la voce del Signore, Dio loro, ma ne avevano trasgredito il patto; e non ascoltarono e non eseguirono tutti gli ordini, che Mosè, servo del Signore, aveva loro dati.
13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria advanced on al the fortifiedtowns of Judah and captured them.	13 Nell'anno decimoquarto del re Ezechia, Sennacherib, re di Assiria, salì contro tutte le città fortificate di Giuda e le espugnò.
14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent this message to the king of Assyria at Lachish, 'I have been atfault. Cal off the attack, and I wil submit to whatever you impose on me.' The king of Assyria exacted threehundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold from Hezekiah king of Judah,	14 Allora Ezechia, re di Giuda, mandò messaggi al re di Assiria in Lachis, dicendo: «Ho sbagliato, allontanati da me, e farò tutto ciò che tu mi imporrai». Il re d'Assiria comandò allora ad Ezechia, re di Giuda, di dargli trecento talenti d'argento e trenta talenti d'oro.
15 and Hezekiah gave him al the silver in the Temple of Yahweh and in the palace treasury.	15 Ed Ezechia diede tutto il danaro che si trovava nella casa del Signore e nei tesori reali.
16 At which time, Hezekiah stripped the facing from the leaves and jambs of the doors of the Temple ofYahweh, which an earlier king of Judah had put on, and gave it to the king of Assyria.	16 In quel tempo Ezechia spezzò le porte del tempio del Signore e le lamine d'oro, che egli stesso vi aveva fissate, e le diede al re di Assiria.
17 From Lachish the king of Assyria sent the cupbearer-in-chief with a large force to King Hezekiah inJerusalem. He marched on Jerusalem and, on his arrival, took up position near the conduit of the upper poolwhich is on the road to the Ful er's Field.	17 Mandò poi il re di Assiria al re Ezechia da Lachis a Gerusalemme Tartan, Rabsaris e Rabsace con una forte armata. 18 He summoned the king. The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebnah the secretary andthe herald Joah son of Asaph went out to him.	18 Chiamarono il re, e uscì verso di essi Eliacim figlio di Elcia, maggiordomo del re, con Sobna il segretario, e Joae figliuolo di Asaf, il cronista.
19 The cupbearer-in-chief said to them, 'Say to Hezekiah, "The great king, the king of Assyria, says this:What makes you so confident?	19 Rabsace parlò a loro così: «Riferite ad Ezechia: - Così parla il gran re, il re degli Assiri. In che riponi tu la tua fiducia?
20 Do you think empty words are as good as strategy and military strength? Who are you relying on, todare to rebel against me?	20 Pensi forse di prepararti a combattere? A che ti affidi per osare di ribellarti?
21 There you are, relying on that broken reed Egypt, which pricks and pierces the hand of whoever leanson it. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt is like to al who rely on him.	21 Speri forse nel bastone di canna fessa dell'Egitto, che si romperà e penetrerà nella mano di chi vi si appoggia sopra e gliela forerà? Tale è Faraone, re d'Egitto, per tutti quelli che confidano in lui.
22 You may say to me: We rely on Yahweh our God. But have his high places and altars not beensuppressed by Hezekiah who told Judah and Jerusalem: Here, in Jerusalem, is the altar before which you mustworship?	22 Che se mi dite: Noi abbiamo fiducia nel Signore Dio nostro; non è questi il Dio di cui Ezechia ha tolto gli alti luoghi e gli altari e comandò a Giuda e a Gerusalemme: Adorate in Gerusalemme dinanzi a questo altare? -
23 Very well, then, make a wager with my lord the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses ifyou can find horsemen to ride them.	23 Passate adunque dalla parte del mio signore, il re di Assiria, ed io metterò a vostra disposizione duemila cavalli, purchè voi abbiate modo di trovare quelli che vi montano sopra.
24 How could you repel a single one of the least of my master's soldiers? And yet you have relied onEgypt for chariots and horsemen.	24 Come potreste voi resistere ad uno solo dei satrapi del mio signore, fosse pure il più piccolo? Avete forse fiducia nell'Egitto a causa de' suoi carri e de' suoi cavalieri?
25 And lastly, have I marched on this place to lay it waste without warrant from Yahweh? Yahwehhimself said to me: March on this country and lay it waste." '	25 Non sono io venuto per volontà del Signore in questo stesso luogo per demolirlo? Il Signore mi ha detto: - Ascendi fino a questo paese e distruggilo -».
26 Eliakim, Shebnah and Joah said to the cupbearer-in-chief, 'Please speak to your servants in Aramaic,for we understand it; do not speak to us in the Judaean language within earshot of the people on the ramparts.'	26 Eliacim figlio di Elcia, Sobna e Joae dissero allora a Rabsace: «Ti preghiamo di parlare a noi tuoi servi in siriaco, perchè noi comprendiamo questa lingua e non ci parlare già in ebraico, altrimenti il popolo che sta sulle mura ci comprenderebbe».
27 But the cupbearer-in-chief said, 'Do you think my lord sent me here to say these things to your masteror to you? On the contrary, it was to the people sitting on the ramparts who, like you, are doomed to eat theirown dung and drink their own urine.'	27 Ma rispose ad essi Rabsace: «Forse che il mio Signore mi ha mandato a dire queste cose al tuo padrone e a te e non piuttosto agli uomini, che seggono sulle mura per mangiare i loro escrementi e bere la propria orina con voi?».
28 The cupbearer-in-chief then drew himself up and shouted loudly in the Judaean language, 'Listen tothe word of the great king, the king of Assyria.	28 Si fermò allora Rabsace, poi a voce alta gridò in lingua ebraica: «Ascoltate le parole del gran re, il re di Assiria.
29 The king says this, "Do not let Hezekiah delude you. He wil be powerless to save you from myclutches.	29 Queste cose dice il re: - Non vi seduca Ezechia perchè egli non potrà strapparvi dalle mie mani.
30 Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to rely on Yahweh by saying: Yahweh is sure to save us; this citywil not fal into the king of Assyria's clutches.	30 Nè vi affidate al Signore, dicendo: Il Signore ci libererà e non lascerà che la città cada nelle mani del re d'Assiria . -
31 Do not listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says this: Make peace with me, surrender to me, andevery one of you wil be free to eat the fruit of his own vine and of his own fig tree and to drink the water of hisown storage-wel	31 Non date ascolto ad Ezechia, poichè così dice il re degli Assiri: - Fate con me quello che è utile per voi, e arrendetevi a me; e ciascuno mangerà della sua vigna e del suo fico e berrete le acque delle vostre cisterne,
32 until I come and take you away to a country like your own, a land of corn and good wine, a land ofbread and vineyards, a land of oil and honey: and so you wil survive and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah; he isdeluding you when he says: Yahweh wil save us.	32 fino a che io verrò e vi trasporterò in un paese, che è simile al vostro paese, in una terra fruttifera e fertile di vino, in una terra di frumento e di vigne, in una terra di ulivi e di olio e di miele, e là vivrete e non morrete. Non date ascolto ad Ezechia, che v'inganna, dicendo: Il Signore ci libererà .
33 Has any god of any nation been able to save his country from the king of Assyria's clutches?	33 Furono capaci di liberare i loro territori dalla mano del re di Assiria gli dèi delle genti?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim and Hena and Ivvah?Where are the local gods of Samaria? Did they save Samaria from my clutches?	34 Dov'è il Dio di Emat e di Arfad? Dov'è il Dio di Sefarvaim, di Ana, e di Ava? Hanno essi liberato Samaria dalla mia mano?
35 Of al the local gods, which ones have saved their countries from my clutches, for Yahweh to be ableto save Jerusalem from my clutches?" '	35 Quali furono fra tutti gli dèi delle regioni quelli che strapparono il loro territorio dalla mia mano, perchè possa il Signore strappare Gerusalemme dalla mano mia? -».
36 The people, however, kept quiet and said nothing in reply, since the king had given the order, 'Youare not to answer him.'	36 Il popolo tacque e non gli rispose una sola parola, poichè il re aveva comandato di non rispondergli.
37 The master of the palace, Eliakim son of Hilkiah, Shebnah the secretary and the herald Joah son ofAsaph, with their clothes torn, went to Hezekiah and reported what the cupbearer-in-chief had said.	37 Allora Eliacim figlio di Elcia, maggiordomo, e lo scriba Sobna e Joae figlio di Asaf, il cronista, vennero da Ezechia colle vesti lacerate per riferirgli le parole di Rabsace.
