1 Solomon was overlord of al the kingdoms from the River to the territory of the Philistines and theEgyptian border. They brought tribute and served him al his life long.	1 Salomone dominava tutti i paesi, dal Fiume fino al paese dei Filistei e al confine d'Egitto. Essi offrivano tributi e servirono Salomone per tutti i giorni della sua vita.
2 The daily provisions for Solomon were: thirty measures of fine flour and sixty measures of meal,	2 La provvista di viveri di Salomone per ciascun giorno era di trenta kor di fior di farina, sessanta kor di farina comune,
3 ten fattened oxen, twenty free-grazing oxen, one hundred sheep, besides deer and gazelles, roebucksand fattened poultry.	3 dieci buoi grassi, venti buoi da pascolo, cento capi di bestiame minuto, senza contare i cervi, le gazzelle, le antilopi e i volatili grassi.
4 For he was master of al Transeuphrates -- of all the kings of Transeuphrates from Tiphsah to Gaza --and he enjoyed peace on al his frontiers.	4 Egli infatti dominava tutti i paesi oltre il Fiume da Tipsach fino a Gaza, tutti i re oltre il Fiume; e v'era pace tutt'intorno ai suoi confini.
5 Judah and Israel lived in security, everyone under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan to Beersheba,throughout the lifetime of Solomon.	5 Giuda e Israele abitarono al sicuro, ciascuno all'ombra della sua vite e del suo fico, da Dan a Bersabea, durante l'intera vita di Salomone.
6 And Solomon had four thousand stal s of horses for his chariots and twelve thousand cavalrymen.	6 Salomone aveva quattromila scuderie per i cavalli dei suoi carri e dodicimila cavalli.
7 These administrators provided the food for Solomon and for al those who were admitted by him to theroyal table, each for the period of a month; they ensured that nothing was wanting.	7 I suddetti prefetti provvedevano al re Salomone e a tutti quelli che avevano accesso alla sua mensa, ciascuno per il suo mese, né gli lasciavano mancare nulla.
8 They also provided the barley and straw for the horses and draught animals, where required, eachaccording to the quota demanded of him.	8 L'orzo, poi, e il foraggio per i cavalli e le bestie da tiro li facevano arrivare nel luogo in cui ciascuno si trovava, secondo il suo incarico.
9 God gave Solomon immense wisdom and understanding, and a heart as vast as the sand on the sea-shore.	9 Dio concesse a Salomone sapienza e intelligenza grandissima e un cuore vasto come la sabbia sulla spiaggia del mare.
10 The wisdom of Solomon surpassed the wisdom of al the sons of the East and al the wisdom of Egypt.	10 La sapienza di Salomone fu più grande che la sapienza di tutti i figli d'Oriente e tutta la sapienza d'Egitto.
11 He was wiser than anyone else, wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, than the sons of Mahol, Heman, Calcoland Darda; his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.	11 Egli fu più sapiente di ogni altro uomo, più di Etan l'ezrachita, di Eman, di Calcol e di Darda, figli di Macol. La sua fama si diffuse fra tutte le nazioni circonvicine.
12 He composed three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered a thousand and five.	12 Egli pronunciò tremila proverbi e i suoi carmi furono mille e cinque.
13 He could discourse on plants from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing on the wal ; and hecould discourse on animals and birds and reptiles and fish.	13 Trattò degli alberi, dal cedro che si trova sul Libano, sino all'issopo che spunta dal muro; dissertò anche sul bestiame e sui volatili, sui rettili e sui pesci.
14 Men from al nations came to hear Solomon's wisdom, and he received gifts from al the kings in theworld, who had heard of his wisdom.	14 Venivano a udire la sapienza di Salomone da tutti i popoli e da tutti i re della terra che avevano sentito parlare della sua sapienza.
15 Hiram king of Tyre sent an embassy to Solomon, having learnt that he had been anointed king insuccession to his father and because Hiram had always been a friend of David.	15 Chiram, re di Tiro, inviò i suoi servi presso Salomone, poiché aveva udito che questi era stato unto re al posto di suo padre e Chiram era sempre stato amico di Davide.
16 And Solomon sent this message to Hiram,	16 Allora Salomone mandò a dire a Chiram:
17 'You are aware that my father David was unable to build a temple for the name of Yahweh his God, onaccount of the wars waged on him from every side, until Yahweh put his enemies under the soles of his feet.	17 "Tu sai bene che mio padre Davide non ha potuto edificare un tempio al nome del Signore suo Dio, a causa della guerra che i nemici gli mossero da ogni parte, finché il Signore non li ebbe posti sotto la pianta dei suoi piedi.
18 But now Yahweh my God has given me peace on every side: not one enemy, no calamities.	18 Ora il Signore mio Dio mi ha concesso quiete né v'è avversario o pericolo di male.
19 I propose, then, to build a temple for the name of Yahweh my God, in accordance with what Yahwehtold my father David, "Your son whom I shall place on your throne to succeed you wil be the man to build atemple for my name."	19 Ho perciò l'intenzione di costruire un tempio al nome del Signore mio Dio secondo quanto il Signore ha detto a Davide mio padre: "Tuo figlio, che porrò al tuo posto sul tuo trono, lui costruirà il tempio al mio nome".
20 So now have cedars of Lebanon cut down for me; my servants wil work with your servants, and I shallpay for the hire of your servants at whatever rate you fix. As you know, we have no one as skil ed in felling treesas the Sidonians.'	20 Pertanto ordina che mi si taglino cedri del Libano. I miei servi staranno con i tuoi e io ti pagherò l'ingaggio dei tuoi servi secondo tutto quello che stabilirai. Tu sai bene che fra di noi non c'è nessun esperto nell'abbattere alberi come i Sidoni".
21 When Hiram heard what Solomon had said, he was delighted. 'Now blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'whohas given David a wise son to rule over this great people!'	21 Quando Chiram udì le parole di Salomone, ne gioì assai ed esclamò: "Sia oggi benedetto il Signore che ha dato a Davide un figlio saggio per governare questo grande popolo".
22 And Hiram sent word to Solomon, 'I have received your message. For my part, I shall supply you withal you require in the way of cedar wood and juniper.	22 Quindi Chiram mandò a dire a Salomone: "Ho ricevuto il tuo messaggio. Io soddisferò ogni tua richiesta di legno di cedro e di cipresso.
23 Your servants wil bring these down from Lebanon to the sea, and I shal have them towed by sea toany place you name; I shal discharge them there, and you wil take them over. For your part, you wil see to theprovisioning of my household as I desire.'	23 I miei servi li faranno scendere dal Libano al mare; poi io li farò rimorchiare per mare fino al luogo che mi avrai indicato; lì li farò sciogliere e tu li prenderai. In compenso tu soddisferai la mia richiesta, fornendo l'approvvigionamento della mia casa".
24 So Hiram provided Solomon with al the cedar wood and juniper he wanted	24 Così Chiram fornì a Salomone tanto legno di cedro e di cipresso quanto ne volle.
25 while Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand kor of wheat to feed his household, and twenty thousandkor of pure oil. Solomon gave Hiram this every year.	25 A sua volta Salomone consegnò a Chiram ventimila kor di grano per il mantenimento della sua casa e ventimila misure di olio vergine. Tanto consegnava Salomone a Chiram anno per anno.
26 Yahweh gave Solomon wisdom as he had promised him; good relations persisted between Solomonand Hiram, and the two of them concluded a treaty.	26 Ora il Signore accordò a Salomone la sapienza, come gli aveva promesso; di conseguenza ci fu pace tra Chiram e Salomone e questi strinsero un patto tra loro.
27 King Solomon raised a levy throughout Israel for forced labour: the levy numbered thirty thousand men.	27 Il re Salomone fece un reclutamento di lavoratori forzati da tutto Israele, che ammontava a trentamila uomini.
28 He sent these to Lebanon in relays, ten thousand a month; they spent one month in Lebanon and twomonths at home. Adoram was in charge of the forced labour.	28 Li mandò poi al Libano a gruppi di diecimila per mese; un mese stavano nel Libano e due mesi a casa. Sovrintendente del lavoro forzato era Adoniram.
29 Solomon also had seventy thousand porters and eighty thousand quarrymen in the mountains,	29 Salomone aveva anche settantamila portatori e ottantamila tagliapietre sulla montagna,
30 as wel as the administrators, officials who supervised the work, three thousand three hundred of themin charge of the men employed in the work.	30 oltre i sovrintendenti dei prefetti di Salomone che dirigevano i lavori in numero di tremilatrecento e comandavano la massa degli operai.
31 At the king's orders they quarried huge stones, special stones for the laying of the temple foundations,dressed stones.	31 Il re ordinò di cavare pietre grosse, pietre pesanti da porre come fondamenta al tempio, pietre squadrate.
32 Solomon's workmen and Hiram's workmen and the Giblites cut and assembled the wood and stone forthe building of the Temple.	32 Gli operai di Salomone, assieme a quelli di Chiram e di Biblos, le sgrossarono e così prepararono il legno e le pietre per la costruzione del tempio.
