NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Solomon became the son-in-law of Pharaoh king of Egypt; he married Pharaoh's daughter, and took herto the City of David until he could complete the building of his palace, the Temple of Yahweh and the ramparts ofJerusalem.	1 - Rimasto adunque assicurato il regno nelle mani di Salomone, egli si imparentò col Faraone re d'Egitto, di cui prese in moglie la figlia, che condusse nella città di Davide, finchè non ebbe compita la fabbrica della sua casa e della casa del Signore e le mura di cinta di Gerusalemme.
2 The people, however, were stil sacrificing on the high places, because at that time a dwel ing-place forthe name of Yahweh had not yet been built.	2 Tuttavia il popolo immolava sulle alture, poichè fino a quel giorno non era stato fabbricato il tempio al nome del Signore.
3 Solomon loved Yahweh: he fol owed the precepts of his father David, except that he offered sacrificeand incense on the high places.	3 Salomone amava il Signore seguendo i comandamenti di Davide suo padre: soltanto immolava nei luoghi elevati e vi bruciava incensi.
4 The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, since that was the principal high place -- Solomon presenteda thousand burnt offerings on that altar.	4 Andò pertanto a Gabaon per offrirvi sacrifici, perchè era il più importante dei luoghi elevati. Su quell'altare di Gabaon Salomone offrì mille ostie.
5 At Gibeon Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream during the night. God said, 'Ask what you wouldlike me to give you.'	5 Apparve poi il Signore a Salomone durante la notte in sogno e gli disse: «Domandami quello che vuoi ch'io ti dia».
6 Solomon replied, 'You showed most faithful love to your servant David, my father, when he lived his lifebefore you in faithfulness and uprightness and integrity of heart; you have continued this most faithful love to himby al owing a son of his to sit on his throne today.	6 E Salomone rispose: «Tu hai usato al servo tuo Davide mio padre, grande misericordia, perchè egli camminò al tuo cospetto con fedeltà, con giustizia, con rettitudine di cuore verso di te. Tu gli hai conservato questa grande benevolenza e gli hai concesso un figlio che siede sul trono di lui, come oggi si vede.
7 Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king in succession to David my father. But I am avery young man, unskilled in leadership.	7 Ed ora, o Signore Iddio, tu hai fatto regnare il tuo servo in luogo di Davide mio padre, ma io sono un piccol fanciullo, mancante di esperienza,
8 And here is your servant, surrounded with your people whom you have chosen, a people so numerousthat its number cannot be counted or reckoned.	8 e il tuo servo sta in mezzo al popolo che tu hai eletto, popolo immenso, che non può essere numerato nè contato a causa della sua moltitudine.
9 So give your servant a heart to understand how to govern your people, how to discern between goodand evil, for how could one otherwise govern such a great people as yours?'	9 Accorda pertanto al tuo servo un cuore docile perchè possa giudicare il tuo popolo e discernere il bene dal male. Chi infatti potrà giudicare questo popolo, questo popolo tuo così numeroso?».
10 It pleased Yahweh that Solomon should have asked for this.	10 Piacque al Signore questo modo di parlare con cui Salomone aveva fatto una tale richiesta;
11 'Since you have asked for this,' God said, 'and not asked for long life for yourself or riches or the livesof your enemies but have asked for a discerning judgement for yourself,	11 e il Signore disse a Salomone: «Poichè hai domandato questa cosa, e non hai chiesto per te lunga vita, grandi ricchezze, o la vita dei tuoi nemici, ma hai domandato per te la sapienza per essere in grado di giudicare,
12 here and now I do what you ask. I give you a heart wise and shrewd as no one has had before and noone will have after you.	12 ecco io ho fatto a te secondo le tue parole e ti ho dato un cuore saggio e intelligente, così che nessuno prima di te sarà stato simile a te, nè dopo te sorgerà persona che ti uguagli.
13 What you have not asked I shal give you too: such riches and glory as no other king can match.	13 Ma ti ho inoltre accordato le cose che non mi hai domandato: le ricchezze cioè e la gloria, in modo che nessuno sarà simile a te fra tutti i re dei tempi passati;
14 And I shal give you a long life, if you fol ow my ways, keeping my laws and commandments, as yourfather David followed them.'	14 e se camminerai nelle mie vie, osservando i miei precetti e i miei comandamenti, come fece Davide tuo padre, prolungherò i tuoi giorni».
15 Then Solomon woke up; it had been a dream. He returned to Jerusalem and stood before the ark ofthe covenant of Yahweh; he presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices and held a banquet for allthose in his service.	15 Svegliatosi Salomone, comprese che era stato un sogno, e venuto a Gerusalemme si presentò davanti all'arca dell'alleanza del Signore e offrì olocausti e immolò vittime pacifiche e diede un grande banchetto a tutti i suoi servitori.
16 Later two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him.	16 In quel tempo vennero due donne meretrici al re e si presentarono dinanzi a lui.
17 'If it please you, my lord,' one of the women said, 'this woman and I live in the same house, and whileshe was in the house I gave birth to a child.	17 Una di esse disse: «Ascoltami, te ne prego, o mio signore; io e questa donna abitavamo nella medesima casa, e io partorii presso di essa nella stessa stanza.
18 Now it happened on the third day after my delivery that this woman also gave birth to a child. We werealone together; there was no one else in the house with us; just the two of us in the house.	18 Tre giorni dopo che io ebbi partorito, anche costei ebbe un figliuolo, e stavamo insieme, e non v'era altri con noi nella casa all'infuori di noi due.
19 Now one night this woman's son died; she overlaid him.	19 Ora morì il figliuolo di questa donna durante la notte, avendolo essa soffocato mentre dormiva.
20 And in the middle of the night she got up and took my son from beside me while your servant wasasleep; she took him in her arms and put her own dead son in mine.	20 Levatasi allora nel cuor della notte, di nascosto tolse il mio figlio dal fianco della tua ancella, che dormiva, e se lo collocò sul suo seno, mentre il suo figlio, che era morto, lo pose sul mio seno.
21 When I got up to suckle my child, there he was, dead. But in the morning I looked at him carefully, andhe was not the child I had borne at al .'	21 Il mattino nell'alzarmi per dare il latte al figliuol mio, lo vidi morto; ma avendo guardato con maggior diligenza alla luce del giorno, m'accòrsi che non era quello che io aveva generato».
22 Then the other woman spoke. 'That is not true! My son is the live one, yours is the dead one'; and thefirst retorted, 'That is not true! Your son is the dead one, mine is the live one.' And so they wrangled before theking.	22 L'altra donna rispose: «Non è vero quanto tu dici, ma il figlio tuo è morto; il mio vive». Al contrario l'altra diceva: «Tu menti, poichè il mio figlio vive e il tuo è morto»; e così litigavano alla presenza del re.
23 'This one says,' the king observed, ' "My son is the one who is alive; your son is dead," while the other says, "That is not true! Your son is the dead one, mine is the live one."	23 Allora il re disse: «Una dice: - Il mio figlio vive e il figlio tuo è morto. - E l'altra risponde: - No, ma è il figlio tuo che è morto, il mio vive -».
24 Bring me a sword,' said the king; and a sword was brought into the king's presence.	24 E il re continuò: «Portatemi una spada». Quando ebbero portata la spada davanti al re,
25 'Cut the living child in two,' the king said, 'and give half to one, half to the other.'	25 egli soggiunse: «Dividete il bambino vivo in due parti e datene una metà all'una e una metà all'altra».
26 At this the woman who was the mother of the living child addressed the king, for she felt acutely for herson. 'I beg you, my lord,' she said, 'let them give her the live child; on no account let them kil him!' But the othersaid, 'He shal belong to neither of us. Cut him in half!'	26 La donna, madre del figlio vivo, (siccome si sentì commuovere le viscere per amor del proprio figliuolo), disse al re: «Te ne scongiuro, o signore, dà a lei il bambino vivo e non volerlo uccidere». Al contrario l'altra diceva: «Non sia nè mio, nè tuo, ma sia diviso».
27 Then the king gave his decision. 'Give the live child to the first woman,' he said, 'and do not kill him.She is his mother.'	27 Rispose allora il re e disse: «Date a costei il bambino vivo e non si uccida, poichè costei è la vera madre».
28 Al Israel came to hear of the judgement which the king had pronounced and held the king in awe,recognising that he possessed divine wisdom for dispensing justice.	28 Tutto Israele seppe del giudizio pronunziato dal re e temette il re, vedendo che la sapienza di Dio era in lui per amministrare la giustizia.
