NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 As David's life drew to its close he laid this charge on his son Solomon,	1 Quando i giorni di Davide stavano per finire, egli fece a suo figlio Salomone le seguenti raccomandazioni:
2 'I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong and show yourself a man.	2 "Io me ne sto andando là dove vanno tutti; ma tu sii coraggioso e comportati da uomo!
3 Observe the injunctions of Yahweh your God, following his ways and keeping his laws, hiscommandments, his ordinances and his decrees, as stands written in the Law of Moses, so that you may besuccessful in everything you do and undertake,	3 Osserverai i precetti del Signore tuo Dio, camminando nelle sue vie e praticando i suoi statuti, i suoi comandamenti, i suoi decreti e le sue prescrizioni, secondo quanto sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, affinché tu riesca in tutto quello che farai e dovunque ti volgerai.
4 and that Yahweh may fulfil the promise which he made me, "If your sons are careful how they behave,and walk loyal y before me with all their heart and soul, you wil never want for a man on the throne of Israel."	4 In tal modo il Signore confermerà la promessa che mi ha fatto: "Se i tuoi figli regoleranno la loro condotta camminando lealmente al mio cospetto con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima, non ti mancherà mai un successore sul trono d'Israele".
5 'You know too what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armyof Israel, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether; how he murdered them, shedding the blood of war in timeof peace and staining the belt round my waist and the sandals on my feet with the blood of war.	5 Tu pure hai saputo quello che mi fece Ioab, figlio di Zeruià, quanto cioè fece ai due capi degli eserciti d'Israele, ad Abner, figlio di Ner, e ad Amasà, figlio di Ieter: li ha massacrati, ha versato, durante la pace, il sangue di guerra e ha macchiato di sangue innocente la cintura che avevo ai fianchi e i sandali che portavo ai piedi.
6 You wil be wise not to let his grey head go down to Sheol in peace.	6 Agirai saggiamente se non permetterai che la sua canizie discenda in pace negli inferi.
7 As regards the sons of Barzil ai of Gilead, treat them with faithful love, let them be among those who eatat your table, for they were as kind to me when I was fleeing from your brother Absalom.	7 Quanto ai figli di Barzillài il galaadita, tu li tratterai benevolmente ed essi saranno fra coloro che mangiano alla tua tavola; perché furono essi che mi vennero incontro quando fuggivo di fronte a tuo fratello Assalonne.
8 You also have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim. He called down a terriblecurse on me the day I left for Mahanaim, but he came down to meet me at the Jordan and I swore to him byYahweh that I would not put him to death.	8 Ecco presso di te Simeì, figlio di Ghera, il beniaminita di Bacurìm, colui che mi maledisse con una maledizione atroce nel giorno in cui me ne andavo a Macanàim. E' vero che egli scese a incontrarmi al Giordano e io gli giurai per il Signore: "Non ti ucciderò di spada!";
9 But you, you must not let him go unpunished; you are a wise man and wil know how to deal with him, tobring his grey head down to Sheol in blood.'	9 tu però non lasciarlo impunito e, da uomo avveduto qual sei, saprai come trattarlo e come far scendere la sua canizie insanguinata negli inferi".
10 So David fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David.	10 Poi Davide s'addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide.
11 David was king of Israel for a period of forty years: he reigned at Hebron for seven years, and inJerusalem for thirty-three.	11 Davide regnò su Israele per quarant'anni: sette anni in Ebron, e trentatré a Gerusalemme.
12 Solomon then sat on the throne of David, and his sovereignty was securely established.	12 Salomone s'insediò sul trono di Davide suo padre e il suo regno si consolidò fortemente.
13 Adonijah son of Haggith went to Bathsheba mother of Solomon. 'Do you bring peace?' she asked. Hereplied, 'Yes, peace.'	13 Adonia, figlio di Agghìt, si recò da Betsabea, madre di Salomone, che gli domandò: "E' pacifica la tua venuta?". Quegli rispose: "E' pacifica".
14 Then he said, 'I have something to say to you.' 'Say on,' she replied.	14 Poi soggiunse: "Ti devo dire una cosa"; quella rispose: "Parla pure".
15 'You know', he said, 'that the kingdom should have come to me, and that al Israel expected me to beking; but the crown eluded me and fell to my brother, since it came to him from Yahweh.	15 Egli riprese: "Tu sai bene che il regno apparteneva a me e che tutto Israele s'aspettava ch'io divenissi re; invece il regno m'è sfuggito ed è toccato a mio fratello, perché il Signore glielo aveva concesso.
16 Now I have one request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Go on,' she said.	16 Ora ho una sola domanda da rivolgerti; non me la rifiutare". Gli disse: "Parla".
17 He went on, 'Please ask King Solomon -- for he wil not refuse you -- to give me Abishag of Shunem inmarriage.'	17 Egli rispose: "Di' al re Salomone, poiché non si rifiuterà, che mi dia in moglie Abisag di Sunem".
18 'Very wel ,' Bathsheba replied, 'I shal speak to the king about you.'	18 Rispose Betsabea: "Bene, io stessa parlerò al re in tuo favore".
19 So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him about Adonijah; the king got up to meet her andbowed before her; he then sat down on his throne; a seat was brought for the king's mother, and she sat downon his right.	19 Andò dunque Betsabea dal re Salomone per parlargli di Adonia e il re s'alzò per andarle incontro, si prostrò davanti a lei e si sedette sul trono; poi si collocò un trono per la madre del re ed ella si sedette alla sua destra.
20 She said, 'I have one smal request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Mother,' the king replied, 'makeyour request, for I shal not refuse you.'	20 Questa disse: "Ho una piccola domanda da rivolgerti; non me la rifiutare". Le rispose il re: "Domanda pure, o madre mia, perché non te la rifiuterò".
21 'Let Abishag of Shunem', she said, 'be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah.'	21 Ella continuò: "Si dia Abisag di Sunem in moglie a tuo fratello Adonia".
22 King Solomon replied to his mother, 'And why do you request Abishag of Shunem for Adonijah? Youmight as wel request the kingdom for him, since he is my elder brother and Abiathar the priest and Joab son ofZeruiah are on his side.'	22 Il re Salomone replicò a sua madre: "Ma perché chiedi Abisag di Sunem per Adonia? Chiedi pure per lui il regno, perché egli è mio fratello maggiore e per lui stanno il sacerdote Ebiatàr e Ioab figlio di Zeruià".
23 And King Solomon swore by Yahweh: 'May God bring unnameable il s on me, and worse ills, too,' hesaid, 'if Adonijah does not pay for these words of his with his life!	23 Poi il re Salomone giurò per il Signore: "Che Dio mi faccia questo male e aggiunga ancora quest'altro, se non è a prezzo della sua vita che Adonia ha pronunciato queste parole!
24 As Yahweh lives who has set me securely on the throne of my father David, and who, as he promised,has given him a dynasty, Adonijah shal be put to death this very day.'	24 Orbene, com'è vero che vive il Signore che mi ha confermato e collocato sul trono di mio padre Davide e, come mi ha promesso, mi ha fondata una casa, oggi stesso Adonia sarà messo a morte".
25 And King Solomon commissioned Benaiah son of Jehoiada to strike him down, and that was how hedied.	25 Il re Salomone inviò pertanto Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, che lo colpì a morte.
26 As for Abiathar the priest, the king said to him, 'Go to Anathoth to your estate. You deserve to die, but Iam not going to put you to death now, since you carried the ark of Yahweh in the presence of my father Davidand shared al my father's hardships.'	26 Il re disse al sacerdote Ebiatàr: "Vattene ad Anatot, ai tuoi poderi, perché ti meriti la morte; tuttavia non ti farò morire oggi, perché hai portato l'arca del Signore in presenza di Davide mio padre e hai partecipato a tutte le prove che mio padre sopportò".
27 Solomon deprived Abiathar of the priesthood of Yahweh, thus fulfil ing the prophecy which Yahweh haduttered against the House of Eli at Shiloh.	27 Salomone depose Ebiatàr dall'ufficio di sacerdote del Signore, attuando così la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciato contro la casa di Eli a Silo.
28 When the news reached Joab -- for Joab had lent his support to Adonijah, though he had notsupported Absalom -- he fled to the Tent of Yahweh and clung to the horns of the altar.	28 La notizia intanto giunse a Ioab che s'era schierato per Adonia, senza però parteggiare per Assalonne. Ioab si rifugiò nella tenda del Signore e s'aggrappò ai corni dell'altare.
29 King Solomon was told, 'Joab has fled to the Tent of Yahweh; he is there beside the altar.' On this,Solomon sent word to Joab, 'What reason did you have for fleeing to the altar?' Joab replied, 'I was afraid of youand fled to Yahweh.' Solomon then sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada. 'Go', he said, 'and strike him down.'	29 Fu perciò avvertito il re Salomone: "Ioab s'è rifugiato nella tenda del Signore ed ecco che sta accanto all'altare". Salomone mandò Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, dicendogli: "Va', colpiscilo".
30 Accordingly Benaiah went to the Tent of Yahweh. 'By order of the king,' he said, 'come out!' 'No,' hesaid, 'I will die here.' So Benaiah brought word back to the king, 'This is what Joab said, and the answer he gaveme.'	30 Benaià andò nella tenda del Signore e gli disse: "Così ha ordinato il re: Esci!". Quegli rispose: "No, voglio morire qui". Benaià riferì la cosa al re: "Così ha detto Ioab e così ha risposto".
31 'Do as he says,' the king replied. 'Strike him down and bury him, and so rid me and my family today ofthe innocent blood which Joab has shed.	31 Allora il re soggiunse: "Fa' com'egli ha detto: colpiscilo e poi seppelliscilo. Così stornerai da me e dalla casa di mio padre il sangue sparso da Ioab senza motivo.
32 Yahweh wil bring his blood down on his own head, because he struck down two more upright andbetter men than he, and, without my father David's knowledge, put to the sword Abner son of Ner, commander ofthe army of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.	32 Il Signore farà ricadere sul suo capo il sangue che egli versò quando colpì due uomini più giusti e più buoni di lui e li uccise di spada a insaputa di mio padre Davide, cioè Abner, figlio di Ner, capo dell'esercito d'Israele, e Amasà, figlio di Ieter, capo dell'esercito di Giuda.
33 May their blood come down on the head of Joab and his descendants for ever, but may David, hisdescendants, his dynasty, his throne, have peace for ever from Yahweh.'	33 Il sangue loro ricadrà sul capo di Ioab e dei suoi discendenti in perpetuo; invece Davide e i suoi discendenti, la sua dinastia e il suo trono avranno pace per sempre da parte del Signore".
34 Whereupon Benaiah son of Jehoiada went out, struck Joab down and put him to death; he was buriedat his home in the desert.	34 Allora Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, salì, lo colpì e lo fece morire; fu poi seppellito nella sua casa nel deserto.
35 In his place as head of the army the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada and, in place of Abiathar,the priest Zadok.	35 Al suo posto il re pose a capo dell'esercito Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, e al posto di Ebiatàr pose il sacerdote Zadòk.
36 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Build yourself a house in Jerusalem,' he told him. 'You are tolive there; do not leave it to go anywhere at all.	36 Il re mandò pure a chiamare Simeì e gli disse: "Costruisciti una casa in Gerusalemme; vi abiterai ma non ne uscirai per andare qua o là.
37 The day you go out and cross the ravine of the Kidron, be sure you wil certainly die. Your blood wil beon your own head.'	37 Quel giorno in cui tu uscissi e attraversassi il torrente Cedron, sappi che certamente morrai e il tuo sangue ricadrà sul tuo capo".
38 'That is a fair demand,' Shimei replied to the king, 'your servant wil do as my lord the king orders.' Andfor a long time Shimei lived in Jerusalem.	38 Simeì rispose al re: "Sta bene! Il tuo servo agirà come il re mio signore ha ordinato". E Simeì dimorò molti anni in Gerusalemme.
39 But when three years had gone by, it happened that two of Shimei's slaves ran away to Achish son ofMaacah, king of Gath; Shimei was told, 'Your slaves are in Gath.'	39 Passati però tre anni, due schiavi di Simeì fuggirono presso Achis, figlio di Maaca, re di Gat. Alcuni informarono Simeì dicendogli: "Ecco i tuoi schiavi si trovano a Gat".
40 On this, Shimei got up and saddled his donkey and went to Akish at Gath to find his slaves. He went offand brought his slaves back from Gath.	40 Allora Simeì si levò, sellò il suo asino e si recò a Gat presso Achis a reclamare i suoi schiavi. Poi se ne tornò conducendoli con sé da Gat.
41 Solomon was informed that Shimei had left Jerusalem for Gath and come back again.	41 Fu riferito a Salomone che Simeì da Gerusalemme era andato a Gat ed era tornato.
42 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Did I not make you swear by Yahweh,' he said, 'and did I notwarn you, "The day you leave to go anywhere at all, be sure you wil certainly die"? To which you replied, "That is a fair demand."	42 Il re allora mandò a chiamare Simeì e gli disse: "Non ti ho fatto giurare per il Signore e ammonito dicendoti: "Nel giorno in cui uscirai per andare qua o là sappi che certamente morrai"? Non mi hai tu risposto: "Va bene, ho inteso"?
43 Why did you not keep the oath to Yahweh and the order which I imposed on you?'	43 Perché dunque non hai osservato il giuramento del Signore e gli ordini che ti avevo impartiti?".
44 The king then said to Shimei, 'You know wel al the evil you did to my father David. Yahweh is about tobring your wickedness down on your own head.	44 Disse ancora il re a Simeì: "Tu sai, giacché la tua coscienza te lo attesta, tutto il male che hai fatto a Davide mio padre; ora il Signore ti farà ricadere sul capo la tua malvagità.
45 But may King Solomon be blessed, and may the throne of David be kept secure before Yahweh forever!'	45 Invece il re Salomone sarà benedetto e il trono di Davide sarà saldo in perpetuo innanzi al Signore".
46 The king gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he went out and struck Shimei down; and that washow he died. And now the kingdom was securely in Solomon's hands.	46 E il re comandò a Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà; egli uscì e lo colpì a morte. Così il potere reale si consolidò nelle mani di Salomone.
