1 As David's life drew to its close he laid this charge on his son Solomon,	1 I giorni di Davide si erano avvicinati alla morte, ed egli ordinò a Salomone, suo figlio:
2 'I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong and show yourself a man.	2 «Io me ne vado per la strada di ogni uomo sulla terra. Tu sii forte e móstrati uomo.
3 Observe the injunctions of Yahweh your God, following his ways and keeping his laws, hiscommandments, his ordinances and his decrees, as stands written in the Law of Moses, so that you may besuccessful in everything you do and undertake,	3 Osserva la legge del Signore, tuo Dio, procedendo nelle sue vie ed eseguendo le sue leggi, i suoi comandi, le sue norme e le sue istruzioni, come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, perché tu riesca in tutto quello che farai e dovunque ti volgerai,
4 and that Yahweh may fulfil the promise which he made me, "If your sons are careful how they behave,and walk loyal y before me with all their heart and soul, you wil never want for a man on the throne of Israel."	4 perché il Signore compia la promessa che mi ha fatto dicendo: “Se i tuoi figli nella loro condotta si cureranno di camminare davanti a me con fedeltà, con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima, non ti sarà tolto un discendente dal trono d’Israele”.
5 'You know too what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armyof Israel, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether; how he murdered them, shedding the blood of war in timeof peace and staining the belt round my waist and the sandals on my feet with the blood of war.	5 Anche tu sai quel che ha fatto a me Ioab, figlio di Seruià, cioè come egli ha trattato i due capi dell’esercito d’Israele, Abner, figlio di Ner, e Amasà, figlio di Ieter, come li ha uccisi spargendo in tempo di pace il sangue di guerra, e mettendo sangue di guerra sulla sua cintura che era intorno ai suoi fianchi e sul suo sandalo che era ai suoi piedi.
6 You wil be wise not to let his grey head go down to Sheol in peace.	6 Agirai con la tua saggezza, e non permetterai che la sua vecchiaia scenda in pace agli inferi.
7 As regards the sons of Barzil ai of Gilead, treat them with faithful love, let them be among those who eatat your table, for they were as kind to me when I was fleeing from your brother Absalom.	7 Agirai con bontà verso i figli di Barzillài il Galaadita, e saranno tra coloro che mangiano alla tua tavola, perché mi hanno assistito mentre fuggivo da Assalonne, tuo fratello.
8 You also have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim. He called down a terriblecurse on me the day I left for Mahanaim, but he came down to meet me at the Jordan and I swore to him byYahweh that I would not put him to death.	8 Ed ecco accanto a te Simei, figlio di Ghera, Beniaminita, di Bacurìm; egli mi maledisse con una maledizione terribile nel giorno in cui andavo a Macanàim. Ma discese incontro a me al Giordano e gli giurai per il Signore: “Non ti farò morire di spada”.
9 But you, you must not let him go unpunished; you are a wise man and wil know how to deal with him, tobring his grey head down to Sheol in blood.'	9 Ora però non lasciarlo impunito. Infatti tu sei un uomo saggio e sai ciò che gli dovrai fare. Farai scendere la sua canizie agli inferi con morte violenta».
10 So David fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David.	10 Davide si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella Città di Davide.
11 David was king of Israel for a period of forty years: he reigned at Hebron for seven years, and inJerusalem for thirty-three.	11 La durata del regno di Davide su Israele fu di quarant’anni: a Ebron regnò sette anni e a Gerusalemme regnò trentatré anni.
12 Solomon then sat on the throne of David, and his sovereignty was securely established.	12 Salomone sedette sul trono di Davide, suo padre, e il suo regno si consolidò molto.
13 Adonijah son of Haggith went to Bathsheba mother of Solomon. 'Do you bring peace?' she asked. Hereplied, 'Yes, peace.'	13 Adonia, figlio di Agghìt, si recò da Betsabea, madre di Salomone, che gli chiese: «Vieni con intenzioni pacifiche?». «Pacifiche», rispose quello,
14 Then he said, 'I have something to say to you.' 'Say on,' she replied.	14 e soggiunse: «Ho da dirti una cosa». E quella: «Parla!».
15 'You know', he said, 'that the kingdom should have come to me, and that al Israel expected me to beking; but the crown eluded me and fell to my brother, since it came to him from Yahweh.	15 Egli disse: «Tu sai che il regno spettava a me e che tutti gli Israeliti si attendevano che io regnassi. Eppure il regno mi è sfuggito ed è passato a mio fratello, perché gli era stato decretato dal Signore.
16 Now I have one request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Go on,' she said.	16 Ora ti rivolgo una sola domanda: non respingermi». Ed essa: «Parla!».
17 He went on, 'Please ask King Solomon -- for he wil not refuse you -- to give me Abishag of Shunem inmarriage.'	17 Adonia disse: «Di’ al re Salomone, il quale nulla ti può negare, che mi conceda in moglie Abisàg, la Sunammita».
18 'Very wel ,' Bathsheba replied, 'I shal speak to the king about you.'	18 Betsabea rispose: «Bene! Parlerò io stessa al re in tuo favore».
19 So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him about Adonijah; the king got up to meet her andbowed before her; he then sat down on his throne; a seat was brought for the king's mother, and she sat downon his right.	19 Betsabea si presentò al re Salomone per parlargli in favore di Adonia. Il re si alzò per andarle incontro, si prostrò davanti a lei, quindi sedette sul trono, facendo collocare un trono per la madre del re. Questa gli sedette alla destra
20 She said, 'I have one smal request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Mother,' the king replied, 'makeyour request, for I shal not refuse you.'	20 e disse: «Ti rivolgo una sola piccola domanda: non respingermi». Il re le rispose: «Chiedi, madre mia, certo non ti respingerò».
21 'Let Abishag of Shunem', she said, 'be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah.'	21 E quella: «Si conceda Abisàg, la Sunammita, in moglie ad Adonia, tuo fratello».
22 King Solomon replied to his mother, 'And why do you request Abishag of Shunem for Adonijah? Youmight as wel request the kingdom for him, since he is my elder brother and Abiathar the priest and Joab son ofZeruiah are on his side.'	22 Il re Salomone rispose a sua madre: «Perché tu mi chiedi Abisàg, la Sunammita, per Adonia? Chiedi pure il regno per lui, poiché egli è mio fratello maggiore e per lui parteggiano il sacerdote Ebiatàr e Ioab figlio di Seruià».
23 And King Solomon swore by Yahweh: 'May God bring unnameable il s on me, and worse ills, too,' hesaid, 'if Adonijah does not pay for these words of his with his life!	23 Il re Salomone giurò per il Signore: «Dio mi faccia questo e altro mi aggiunga, se non è vero che Adonia ha avanzato questa proposta a danno della sua vita.
24 As Yahweh lives who has set me securely on the throne of my father David, and who, as he promised,has given him a dynasty, Adonijah shal be put to death this very day.'	24 Ebbene, per la vita del Signore che mi ha reso saldo, mi ha fatto sedere sul trono di Davide, mio padre, e mi ha fatto una casa come aveva promesso, oggi stesso Adonia verrà ucciso».
25 And King Solomon commissioned Benaiah son of Jehoiada to strike him down, and that was how hedied.	25 Il re Salomone ordinò l’esecuzione a Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, il quale lo colpì e quegli morì.
26 As for Abiathar the priest, the king said to him, 'Go to Anathoth to your estate. You deserve to die, but Iam not going to put you to death now, since you carried the ark of Yahweh in the presence of my father Davidand shared al my father's hardships.'	26 Il re disse al sacerdote Ebiatàr: «Vattene ad Anatòt, nella tua campagna. Certo, tu sei degno di morte, ma oggi non ti faccio morire, perché tu hai portato l’arca del Signore Dio davanti a Davide, mio padre, e perché ti sei occupato di tutto quello di cui mio padre si occupava».
27 Solomon deprived Abiathar of the priesthood of Yahweh, thus fulfil ing the prophecy which Yahweh haduttered against the House of Eli at Shiloh.	27 Così Salomone espulse Ebiatàr, perché non fosse sacerdote del Signore, adempiendo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciato a Silo riguardo alla casa di Eli.
28 When the news reached Joab -- for Joab had lent his support to Adonijah, though he had notsupported Absalom -- he fled to the Tent of Yahweh and clung to the horns of the altar.	28 La notizia arrivò a Ioab – Ioab si era schierato per Adonia, mentre non si era schierato per Assalonne – e allora Ioab fuggì nella tenda del Signore e si afferrò ai corni dell’altare.
29 King Solomon was told, 'Joab has fled to the Tent of Yahweh; he is there beside the altar.' On this,Solomon sent word to Joab, 'What reason did you have for fleeing to the altar?' Joab replied, 'I was afraid of youand fled to Yahweh.' Solomon then sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada. 'Go', he said, 'and strike him down.'	29 Fu riferito al re Salomone che Ioab era fuggito nella tenda del Signore e che stava al fianco dell’altare. Salomone inviò Benaià figlio di Ioiadà con quest’ordine: «Va’, colpiscilo!».
30 Accordingly Benaiah went to the Tent of Yahweh. 'By order of the king,' he said, 'come out!' 'No,' hesaid, 'I will die here.' So Benaiah brought word back to the king, 'This is what Joab said, and the answer he gaveme.'	30 Benaià andò nella tenda del Signore e disse a Ioab: «Così dice il re: “Esci!”». Quegli rispose: «No! Qui voglio morire!». Benaià riferì al re: «Ioab ha parlato così e così mi ha risposto».
31 'Do as he says,' the king replied. 'Strike him down and bury him, and so rid me and my family today ofthe innocent blood which Joab has shed.	31 Il re gli disse: «Fa’ come egli ha detto: colpiscilo e seppelliscilo; così allontanerai da me e dalla casa di mio padre il sangue che Ioab ha sparso senza motivo.
32 Yahweh wil bring his blood down on his own head, because he struck down two more upright andbetter men than he, and, without my father David's knowledge, put to the sword Abner son of Ner, commander ofthe army of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.	32 Il Signore farà ricadere il suo sangue sulla sua testa, perché egli ha colpito due uomini giusti e migliori di lui e li ha trafitti con la sua spada, senza che Davide mio padre lo sapesse: Abner, figlio di Ner, capo dell’esercito d’Israele, e Amasà, figlio di Ieter, capo dell’esercito di Giuda.
33 May their blood come down on the head of Joab and his descendants for ever, but may David, hisdescendants, his dynasty, his throne, have peace for ever from Yahweh.'	33 Il loro sangue ricadrà sulla testa di Ioab e sulla testa della sua discendenza per sempre, mentre per Davide e la sua discendenza, la sua casa e il suo trono vi sarà pace per sempre da parte del Signore».
34 Whereupon Benaiah son of Jehoiada went out, struck Joab down and put him to death; he was buriedat his home in the desert.	34 Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, salì, lo colpì e lo uccise; Ioab fu sepolto nella sua casa, nel deserto.
35 In his place as head of the army the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada and, in place of Abiathar,the priest Zadok.	35 Il re lo sostituì, nominando capo dell’esercito Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, mentre mise il sacerdote Sadoc al posto di Ebiatàr.
36 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Build yourself a house in Jerusalem,' he told him. 'You are tolive there; do not leave it to go anywhere at all.	36 Il re mandò a chiamare Simei per dirgli: «Costruisciti una casa a Gerusalemme; ivi sarà la tua dimora e non ne uscirai per andartene qua e là.
37 The day you go out and cross the ravine of the Kidron, be sure you wil certainly die. Your blood wil beon your own head.'	37 Quando ne uscirai, oltrepassando il torrente Cedron, sappi bene che morirai certamente: il tuo sangue ricadrà sulla tua testa».
38 'That is a fair demand,' Shimei replied to the king, 'your servant wil do as my lord the king orders.' Andfor a long time Shimei lived in Jerusalem.	38 Simei disse al re: «Va bene! Come ha detto il re, mio signore, così farà il tuo servo». Simei dimorò in Gerusalemme per molto tempo.
39 But when three years had gone by, it happened that two of Shimei's slaves ran away to Achish son ofMaacah, king of Gath; Shimei was told, 'Your slaves are in Gath.'	39 Dopo tre anni, due schiavi di Simei fuggirono presso Achis figlio di Maacà, re di Gat. Fu riferito a Simei: «I tuoi schiavi sono in Gat».
40 On this, Shimei got up and saddled his donkey and went to Akish at Gath to find his slaves. He went offand brought his slaves back from Gath.	40 Simei si alzò, sellò il suo asino e partì per Gat, andando da Achis in cerca dei suoi schiavi. Simei vi andò e ricondusse i suoi schiavi da Gat.
41 Solomon was informed that Shimei had left Jerusalem for Gath and come back again.	41 Fu riferito a Salomone che Simei era andato da Gerusalemme a Gat e che era ritornato.
42 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Did I not make you swear by Yahweh,' he said, 'and did I notwarn you, "The day you leave to go anywhere at all, be sure you wil certainly die"? To which you replied, "That is a fair demand."	42 Il re fece chiamare Simei e gli disse: «Non ti avevo forse fatto giurare per il Signore e non ti avevo ammonito dicendo: “Nel giorno in cui uscirai per andartene qua e là, sappi bene che certamente dovrai morire”? Tu mi avevi risposto: “Va bene, ho capito”.
43 Why did you not keep the oath to Yahweh and the order which I imposed on you?'	43 Perché non hai rispettato il giuramento del Signore e il comando che ti avevo impartito?».
44 The king then said to Shimei, 'You know wel al the evil you did to my father David. Yahweh is about tobring your wickedness down on your own head.	44 Il re aggiunse a Simei: «Tu conosci, poiché il tuo cuore ne è consapevole, tutto il male che hai fatto a Davide, mio padre. Il Signore farà ricadere la tua malvagità sulla tua testa.
45 But may King Solomon be blessed, and may the throne of David be kept secure before Yahweh forever!'	45 Invece sarà benedetto il re Salomone e il trono di Davide sarà saldo per sempre davanti al Signore».
46 The king gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he went out and struck Shimei down; and that washow he died. And now the kingdom was securely in Solomon's hands.	46 Il re diede ordine a Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, il quale, uscito, lo colpì e quegli morì. Il regno si consolidò nelle mani di Salomone.
