1 As David's life drew to its close he laid this charge on his son Solomon,	1 - Avvicinandosi per Davide il giorno della morte, egli diede a Salomone suo figlio, le sue disposizioni, dicendo:
2 'I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong and show yourself a man.	2 «Io entro nella via comune a tutti gli uomini: sii forte e mostrati uomo.
3 Observe the injunctions of Yahweh your God, following his ways and keeping his laws, hiscommandments, his ordinances and his decrees, as stands written in the Law of Moses, so that you may besuccessful in everything you do and undertake,	3 Osserva i precetti del Signore Iddio tuo, cammina nelle sue vie, metti in pratica le sue cerimonie, i suoi precetti, i suoi giudizi, le sue leggi come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, affinchè tu comprenda tutto quello che fai e tutto quello a cui ti volgerai,
4 and that Yahweh may fulfil the promise which he made me, "If your sons are careful how they behave,and walk loyal y before me with all their heart and soul, you wil never want for a man on the throne of Israel."	4 e affinchè il Signore confermi la parola che ha pronunciato a mio riguardo, dicendo: - Se i tuoi figli veglieranno sulla loro condotta e cammineranno con fedeltà al mio cospetto con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta l'anima loro, non mancherà mai a te un successore sul trono d'Israele. -
5 'You know too what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armyof Israel, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether; how he murdered them, shedding the blood of war in timeof peace and staining the belt round my waist and the sandals on my feet with the blood of war.	5 Anche tu sai quel che fece a me Joab figlio di Sarvia, quel che fece ai due capi dell'esercito di Israele, Abner figlio di Ner e Amasa figlio di Jeter, come li abbia uccisi, come abbia versato in tempo di pace il sangue della guerra e come abbia imbrattato col sangue della guerra e la cintura che era intorno ai suoi lombi e i calzari che aveva ai piedi.
6 You wil be wise not to let his grey head go down to Sheol in peace.	6 Agirai pertanto secondo la tua saggezza e non lascerai la sua canizie scendere in pace nel sepolcro.
7 As regards the sons of Barzil ai of Gilead, treat them with faithful love, let them be among those who eatat your table, for they were as kind to me when I was fleeing from your brother Absalom.	7 Ai figli invece di Berzellai Galaadita userai benevolenza e saranno tuoi commensali, poichè essi mi vennero incontro quando io fuggiva dalla faccia di Absalom tuo fratello.
8 You also have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim. He called down a terriblecurse on me the day I left for Mahanaim, but he came down to meet me at the Jordan and I swore to him byYahweh that I would not put him to death.	8 Hai anche presso di te Semei figlio di Gera figlio di Jemini di Baurim, che pronunciò contro di me ogni sorta di maledizioni, quando io me ne andavo all'accampamento; siccome però mi venne incontro quando passavo il Giordano ed io gli giurai per il Signore, dicendo: - Non ti ucciderò colla spada; -
9 But you, you must not let him go unpunished; you are a wise man and wil know how to deal with him, tobring his grey head down to Sheol in blood.'	9 tu non devi lasciarlo impunito. Sei uomo saggio e saprai come trattarlo e lo farai discendere coi capelli bianchi imbrattati di sangue nel sepolcro».
10 So David fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David.	10 Davide adunque si addormentò coi suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide.
11 David was king of Israel for a period of forty years: he reigned at Hebron for seven years, and inJerusalem for thirty-three.	11 Egli aveva regnato sopra Israele quarant'anni: regnò sette anni in Ebron e trentatrè in Gerusalemme.
12 Solomon then sat on the throne of David, and his sovereignty was securely established.	12 Salomone poi s'assise sopra il trono di Davide suo padre e il suo regno si consolidò grandemente.
13 Adonijah son of Haggith went to Bathsheba mother of Solomon. 'Do you bring peace?' she asked. Hereplied, 'Yes, peace.'	13 Adonia figlio di Aggit andò da Betsabea madre di Salomone, che gli disse: «Vieni con intenzioni pacifiche?», ed egli rispose: «Sì»;
14 Then he said, 'I have something to say to you.' 'Say on,' she replied.	14 poi soggiunse: «Ho da dirti una parola». Quella rispose: «Parla»,
15 'You know', he said, 'that the kingdom should have come to me, and that al Israel expected me to beking; but the crown eluded me and fell to my brother, since it came to him from Yahweh.	15 ed egli disse: «Tu sai che il regno spettava a me e tutto Israele mi aveva designato per suo re; ma il regno è stato trasferito e passò al mio fratello, poichè il Signore glielo ha concesso.
16 Now I have one request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Go on,' she said.	16 Ora adunque io ti faccio una preghiera: ma non coprire di confusione la mia faccia». Ed ella gli disse: «Parla».
17 He went on, 'Please ask King Solomon -- for he wil not refuse you -- to give me Abishag of Shunem inmarriage.'	17 Egli soggiunse: «Ti prego di dire al re Salomone (il quale non può negarti nulla) che dia a me in isposa Abisag la Sunamita».
18 'Very wel ,' Bathsheba replied, 'I shal speak to the king about you.'	18 Betsabea rispose: «Bene, io parlerò in tuo favore al re».
19 So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him about Adonijah; the king got up to meet her andbowed before her; he then sat down on his throne; a seat was brought for the king's mother, and she sat downon his right.	19 Venne dunque Betsabea al re Salomone per parlargli in favore di Adonia. Il re si alzò per andarle incontro, le s'inchinò e si pose a sedere sul suo trono e fece mettere un trono per la madre del re, la quale si assise alla sua destra
20 She said, 'I have one smal request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Mother,' the king replied, 'makeyour request, for I shal not refuse you.'	20 e gli disse: «Ho una piccola domanda a farti. Non coprire di confusione la mia faccia». Le disse il re: «Chiedi, madre mia, perocchè non è giusto che io abbia a stornar da me la tua faccia».
21 'Let Abishag of Shunem', she said, 'be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah.'	21 Essa disse a lui: «Sia data in moglie a tuo fratello Adonia Abisag la Sunamita».
22 King Solomon replied to his mother, 'And why do you request Abishag of Shunem for Adonijah? Youmight as wel request the kingdom for him, since he is my elder brother and Abiathar the priest and Joab son ofZeruiah are on his side.'	22 Il re Salomone rispose e disse alla madre sua: «Perchè chiedere per Adonia Abisag la Sunamita? Chiedi per lui anche il regno, poichè egli è mio fratello maggiore ed ha dalla sua Abiatar sacerdote e Joab figlio di Sarvia».
23 And King Solomon swore by Yahweh: 'May God bring unnameable il s on me, and worse ills, too,' hesaid, 'if Adonijah does not pay for these words of his with his life!	23 Allora Salomone giurò per il Signore dicendo: «Il Signore mi faccia questo e aggiunga quello, se Adonia non ha pronunciata questa parola contro la sua vita:
24 As Yahweh lives who has set me securely on the throne of my father David, and who, as he promised,has given him a dynasty, Adonijah shal be put to death this very day.'	24 ed ora, viva il Signore che mi ha confermato e mi ha collocato sul trono di Davide mio padre e che mi ha fatto una casa secondo la sua promessa! Oggi Adonia sarà ucciso».
25 And King Solomon commissioned Benaiah son of Jehoiada to strike him down, and that was how hedied.	25 Il re Salomone mandò Banaia figlio di Joiada che lo colpì e così Adonia morì.
26 As for Abiathar the priest, the king said to him, 'Go to Anathoth to your estate. You deserve to die, but Iam not going to put you to death now, since you carried the ark of Yahweh in the presence of my father Davidand shared al my father's hardships.'	26 Anche ad Abiatar sacerdote il re disse: «Vattene al tuo podere in Anatot, poichè sei reo di morte; ma io non ti farò morire oggi, perchè portasti l'arca del Signore Iddio dinanzi a Davide mio padre e fosti partecipe di tutte le sofferenze del padre mio».
27 Solomon deprived Abiathar of the priesthood of Yahweh, thus fulfil ing the prophecy which Yahweh haduttered against the House of Eli at Shiloh.	27 Così Salomone cacciò Abiatar perchè non fosse sacerdote del Signore e perchè si compisse la parola del Signore proferita sulla casa di Eli in Silo.
28 When the news reached Joab -- for Joab had lent his support to Adonijah, though he had notsupported Absalom -- he fled to the Tent of Yahweh and clung to the horns of the altar.	28 Fu portata questa notizia a Joab, che aveva seguìto il partito di Adonia e non quello di Salomone; perciò Joab si rifugiò nel tabernacolo del Signore e si attaccò al corno dell'altare.
29 King Solomon was told, 'Joab has fled to the Tent of Yahweh; he is there beside the altar.' On this,Solomon sent word to Joab, 'What reason did you have for fleeing to the altar?' Joab replied, 'I was afraid of youand fled to Yahweh.' Solomon then sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada. 'Go', he said, 'and strike him down.'	29 Ma annunziato al re Salomone che Joab si era rifugiato nel tabernacolo del Signore e si trovava presso l'altare, Salomone mandò Banaia figlio di Joiada, dicendogli: «Va', e uccidilo».
30 Accordingly Benaiah went to the Tent of Yahweh. 'By order of the king,' he said, 'come out!' 'No,' hesaid, 'I will die here.' So Benaiah brought word back to the king, 'This is what Joab said, and the answer he gaveme.'	30 Banaia entrò nel tabernacolo del Signore e disse a Joab: «Così comanda il re: Vieni fuori». Egli rispose: «Non uscirò, ma morrò qua». Banaia riferì al re queste parole, dicendo: «Così ha parlato Joab e così mi rispose».
31 'Do as he says,' the king replied. 'Strike him down and bury him, and so rid me and my family today ofthe innocent blood which Joab has shed.	31 Il re gli disse: «Fa' quanto ti ha detto; uccidilo e seppelliscilo e così rimoverai da me e dalla casa del padre mio il sangue innocente che venne versato da Joab.
32 Yahweh wil bring his blood down on his own head, because he struck down two more upright andbetter men than he, and, without my father David's knowledge, put to the sword Abner son of Ner, commander ofthe army of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.	32 E il Signore farà cadere sulla sua testa il sangue suo, poichè uccise due uomini giusti e migliori di lui e li uccise colla spada, all'insaputa di mio padre Davide: Abner figlio di Ner, capo dell'esercito di Israele e Amasa figlio di Jeter, capo dell'esercito di Giuda;
33 May their blood come down on the head of Joab and his descendants for ever, but may David, hisdescendants, his dynasty, his throne, have peace for ever from Yahweh.'	33 e il sangue di costoro tornerà sul capo di Joab e sul capo della sua discendenza in eterno, mentre a Davide e al trono di lui conceda il Signore una eterna pace».
34 Whereupon Benaiah son of Jehoiada went out, struck Joab down and put him to death; he was buriedat his home in the desert.	34 Salì quindi Banaia figlio di Joiada e assalito Joab, lo uccise: egli venne sepolto nella casa sua nel deserto.
35 In his place as head of the army the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada and, in place of Abiathar,the priest Zadok.	35 E in vece sua, il re costituì Banaia capo dell'esercito e collocò il sacerdote Sadoc in luogo di Abiatar.
36 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Build yourself a house in Jerusalem,' he told him. 'You are tolive there; do not leave it to go anywhere at all.	36 Mandò parimenti il re a chiamare Semei e gli disse: «Fabbricati una casa in Gerusalemme, prendivi dimora e non partirtene per andare qua e là;
37 The day you go out and cross the ravine of the Kidron, be sure you wil certainly die. Your blood wil beon your own head.'	37 poichè in qualsiasi giorno tu uscirai e passerai il torrente Cedron, sappi che ti uccideranno e il sangue tuo cadrà sopra la tua testa».
38 'That is a fair demand,' Shimei replied to the king, 'your servant wil do as my lord the king orders.' Andfor a long time Shimei lived in Jerusalem.	38 Disse Semei al re: «Sta bene; il tuo servo farà quanto dice il re mio signore». Semei pertanto abitò in Gerusalemme molto tempo.
39 But when three years had gone by, it happened that two of Shimei's slaves ran away to Achish son ofMaacah, king of Gath; Shimei was told, 'Your slaves are in Gath.'	39 Ma dopo tre anni avvenne che i servi di Semei se ne fuggirono ad Achis figlio di Maaca, re di Get.
40 On this, Shimei got up and saddled his donkey and went to Akish at Gath to find his slaves. He went offand brought his slaves back from Gath.	40 Semei allora si levò, e sellato il suo asino, andò in Get da Achis a reclamare i suoi servi e se li rimenò via da Get.
41 Solomon was informed that Shimei had left Jerusalem for Gath and come back again.	41 Venne annunziato a Salomone che Semei se ne era andato in Get da Gerusalemme ed era ritornato.
42 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Did I not make you swear by Yahweh,' he said, 'and did I notwarn you, "The day you leave to go anywhere at all, be sure you wil certainly die"? To which you replied, "That is a fair demand."	42 Mandatolo a chiamare, gli disse: «Non ti avevo io fatto giurare per il Signore e non ti ho io avvertito: - Sappi che in quel giorno in cui tu uscirai per andare qua e là, sarai messo a morte -? E non mi rispondesti tu allora: - Sta bene quanto ho udito -?
43 Why did you not keep the oath to Yahweh and the order which I imposed on you?'	43 Perchè adunque non hai osservato il giuramento fatto al Signore ed il comando che ti avevo dato?».
44 The king then said to Shimei, 'You know wel al the evil you did to my father David. Yahweh is about tobring your wickedness down on your own head.	44 Il re disse poi a Semei: «Tu conosci tutto il male fatto da te contro Davide mio padre; e il cuor tuo ne è ben consapevole; il Signore ha fatto ricadere la tua malvagità sopra il tuo capo,
45 But may King Solomon be blessed, and may the throne of David be kept secure before Yahweh forever!'	45 mentre il re Salomone sarà benedetto e il trono di Davide sarà confermato per sempre dinanzi al Signore».
46 The king gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he went out and struck Shimei down; and that washow he died. And now the kingdom was securely in Solomon's hands.	46 Comandò pertanto il re a Banaia figliuolo di Joiada, il quale, uscito, colpì Semei, e questi morì.
