NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 As David's life drew to its close he laid this charge on his son Solomon,	1 Cuando se acercaron los días de la muerte de David, dio órdenes a su hijo Salomón:
2 'I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong and show yourself a man.	2 «Yo me voy por el camino de todos. Ten valor y sé hombre.
3 Observe the injunctions of Yahweh your God, following his ways and keeping his laws, hiscommandments, his ordinances and his decrees, as stands written in the Law of Moses, so that you may besuccessful in everything you do and undertake,	3 Guarda las observancias de Yahveh tu Dios, yendo por su camino, observando sus preceptos, sus órdenes, sus sentencias y sus instrucciones, según está escrito en la ley de Moisés, para que tengas éxito en cuanto hagas y emprendas.
4 and that Yahweh may fulfil the promise which he made me, "If your sons are careful how they behave,and walk loyal y before me with all their heart and soul, you wil never want for a man on the throne of Israel."	4 Para que Yahveh cumpla la promesa que me hizo diciendo: “Si tus hijos guardan su camino para andar en mi presencia con fidelidad, con todo su corazón y toda su alma, ninguno de los tuyos será arrancado de sobre el trono de Israel.”
5 'You know too what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armyof Israel, Abner son of Ner and Amasa son of Jether; how he murdered them, shedding the blood of war in timeof peace and staining the belt round my waist and the sandals on my feet with the blood of war.	5 También sabes lo que me hizo Joab, hijo de Sarvia, lo que hizo a los dos jefes de los ejércitos de Israel: a Abner, hijo de Ner, y a Amasá, hijo de Yéter, que los mató y derramó en la paz sangre de guerra; ha puesto sangre inocente en el cinturón de mi cintura y en la sandalia de mis pies.
6 You wil be wise not to let his grey head go down to Sheol in peace.	6 Harás según tu prudencia y no dejarás bajar en paz sus canas al seol.
7 As regards the sons of Barzil ai of Gilead, treat them with faithful love, let them be among those who eatat your table, for they were as kind to me when I was fleeing from your brother Absalom.	7 Tratarás con benevolencia a los hijos de Barzillay de Galaad y estarán entre los que comen a tu mesa, porque también ellos se acercaron a mí cuando yo huía ante tu hermano Absalón.
8 You also have with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim. He called down a terriblecurse on me the day I left for Mahanaim, but he came down to meet me at the Jordan and I swore to him byYahweh that I would not put him to death.	8 Ahí tienes contigo a Semeí, hijo de Guerá, el benjaminita de Bajurim, que me lanzó atroces maldiciones el día que yo iba a Majanáyim; pero bajó a mi encuentro al Jordán y le juré por Yahveh: No te mataré a espada.
9 But you, you must not let him go unpunished; you are a wise man and wil know how to deal with him, tobring his grey head down to Sheol in blood.'	9 Pero tú no le dejarás impune, pues eres hombre avisado y sabes qué tienes que hacer para que sus canas bajen en sangre al seol».
10 So David fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David.	10 David se acostó con sus padres y le sepultaron en la Ciudad de David.
11 David was king of Israel for a period of forty years: he reigned at Hebron for seven years, and inJerusalem for thirty-three.	11 David reinó sobre Israel cuarenta años; reinó en Hebrón siete años; reinó en Jerusalén 33 años.
12 Solomon then sat on the throne of David, and his sovereignty was securely established.	12 Salomón se sentó en el trono de David su padre y el reino se afianzó sólidamente en su mano.
13 Adonijah son of Haggith went to Bathsheba mother of Solomon. 'Do you bring peace?' she asked. Hereplied, 'Yes, peace.'	13 Adonías, hijo de Jagguit, fue donde Betsabé, madre de Salomón. Ella dijo: «¿Es de paz tu venida?» Respondió: «De paz».
14 Then he said, 'I have something to say to you.' 'Say on,' she replied.	14 Y añadió: «Quiero hablarte». Ella dijo: «Habla».
15 'You know', he said, 'that the kingdom should have come to me, and that al Israel expected me to beking; but the crown eluded me and fell to my brother, since it came to him from Yahweh.	15 El dijo: «Sabes bien que la realeza me pertenecía y que todos los israelitas habían vuelto hacia mí sus rostros para que yo reinara; pero la realeza se volvió y fue para mi hermano, pues de Yahveh le ha venido.
16 Now I have one request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Go on,' she said.	16 Ahora quiero pedirte una sola cosa, no me la niegues». Ella le dijo: «Habla».
17 He went on, 'Please ask King Solomon -- for he wil not refuse you -- to give me Abishag of Shunem inmarriage.'	17 Dijo: «Habla, por favor, al rey Salomón, que no te rechazará, para que me dé a Abisag la sunamita por mujer».
18 'Very wel ,' Bathsheba replied, 'I shal speak to the king about you.'	18 Betsabé contestó: «Está bien. Hablaré al rey Salomón por ti».
19 So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him about Adonijah; the king got up to meet her andbowed before her; he then sat down on his throne; a seat was brought for the king's mother, and she sat downon his right.	19 Entró Betsabé donde el rey Salomón para hablarle acerca de Adonías. Se levantó el rey, fue a su encuentro y se postró ante ella, y se sentó después en su trono; pusieron un trono para la madre del rey y ella se sentó a su diestra.
20 She said, 'I have one smal request to make you; do not refuse me.' 'Mother,' the king replied, 'makeyour request, for I shal not refuse you.'	20 Ella dijo: «Tengo que hacerte una pequeña petición, no me la niegues». Dijo el rey: «Pide, madre mía, porque no te la negaré».
21 'Let Abishag of Shunem', she said, 'be given in marriage to your brother Adonijah.'	21 Ella dijo: «Que se dé Abisag la sunamita por mujer a tu hermano Adonías».
22 King Solomon replied to his mother, 'And why do you request Abishag of Shunem for Adonijah? Youmight as wel request the kingdom for him, since he is my elder brother and Abiathar the priest and Joab son ofZeruiah are on his side.'	22 El rey Salomón respondió a su madre: «¿Por qué pides tú a Abisag la sunamita para Adonías? Pues ya pide el reino para él, pues es mi hermano mayor y tiene de su parte al sacerdote Abiatar y a Joab, hijo de Sarvia».
23 And King Solomon swore by Yahweh: 'May God bring unnameable il s on me, and worse ills, too,' hesaid, 'if Adonijah does not pay for these words of his with his life!	23 Y el rey Salomón juró por Yahveh: «Esto me haga Dios y esto me añada, si Adonías no ha dicho esta palabra a costa de su vida.
24 As Yahweh lives who has set me securely on the throne of my father David, and who, as he promised,has given him a dynasty, Adonijah shal be put to death this very day.'	24 Y ahora, por Yahveh que me ha confirmado y me ha hecho sentar en el trono de David mi padre, y le ha dado una casa como había prometido, que hoy mismo morirá Adonías».
25 And King Solomon commissioned Benaiah son of Jehoiada to strike him down, and that was how hedied.	25 El rey Salomón encargó de ello a Benaías, hijo de Yehoyadá, que le hirió y murió.
26 As for Abiathar the priest, the king said to him, 'Go to Anathoth to your estate. You deserve to die, but Iam not going to put you to death now, since you carried the ark of Yahweh in the presence of my father Davidand shared al my father's hardships.'	26 Dijo el rey al sacerdote Abiatar: «Vete a Anatot, a tus tierras, porque eres reo de muerte, pero no quiero hacerte morir hoy porque llevaste el arca de mi Señor Yahveh en presencia de mi padre David y te afligiste con todas las aflicciones de mi padre».
27 Solomon deprived Abiathar of the priesthood of Yahweh, thus fulfil ing the prophecy which Yahweh haduttered against the House of Eli at Shiloh.	27 Y expulsó Salomón a Abiatar del sacerdocio de Yahveh cumpliendo la palabra que Yahveh pronunció contra la casa de Elí en Silo.
28 When the news reached Joab -- for Joab had lent his support to Adonijah, though he had notsupported Absalom -- he fled to the Tent of Yahweh and clung to the horns of the altar.	28 Llegó la noticia a Joab; como Joab se había inclinado por Adonías, aunque no se había inclinado por Absalón, se refugió Joab en la Tienda de Yahveh y se agarró a los cuernos del altar.
29 King Solomon was told, 'Joab has fled to the Tent of Yahweh; he is there beside the altar.' On this,Solomon sent word to Joab, 'What reason did you have for fleeing to the altar?' Joab replied, 'I was afraid of youand fled to Yahweh.' Solomon then sent Benaiah son of Jehoiada. 'Go', he said, 'and strike him down.'	29 Avisaron al rey Salomón: «Joab se ha refugiado en la Tienda de Yahveh y está al lado del altar». Envió Salomón a decir a Joab: «¿Qué te sucede, que te refugias en el altar?» Respondió Joab: «He tenido miedo de ti y me he refugiado junto a Yahveh». Envió Salomón a Benaías, hijo de Yehoyadá, con esta orden: «Vete y mátale».
30 Accordingly Benaiah went to the Tent of Yahweh. 'By order of the king,' he said, 'come out!' 'No,' hesaid, 'I will die here.' So Benaiah brought word back to the king, 'This is what Joab said, and the answer he gaveme.'	30 Entró Benaías en la Tienda de Yahveh y le dijo: «Así dice el rey: Sal». Respondió: «No. Moriré aquí». Benaías llevó la respuesta al rey diciendo: «Esto ha dicho Joab y esto me ha respondido».
31 'Do as he says,' the king replied. 'Strike him down and bury him, and so rid me and my family today ofthe innocent blood which Joab has shed.	31 El rey le dijo: «Haz como él dijo. Mátale y sepúltale, y apartarás de sobre mí y de sobre la casa de mi padre la sangre inocente que derramó Joab.
32 Yahweh wil bring his blood down on his own head, because he struck down two more upright andbetter men than he, and, without my father David's knowledge, put to the sword Abner son of Ner, commander ofthe army of Israel, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.	32 Yahveh hará recaer su sangre sobre su cabeza porque ha matado dos hombres más justos y mejores que él, matándolos a espada sin saberlo mi padre, a Abner, hijo de Ner, jefe del ejército de Israel, y a Amasá, hijo de Yéter, jefe del ejército de Judá.
33 May their blood come down on the head of Joab and his descendants for ever, but may David, hisdescendants, his dynasty, his throne, have peace for ever from Yahweh.'	33 Que su sangre caiga sobre la cabeza de Joab y de su descendencia para siempre, y que David y su descendencia, su casa y su trono tengan paz para siempre de parte de Yahveh».
34 Whereupon Benaiah son of Jehoiada went out, struck Joab down and put him to death; he was buriedat his home in the desert.	34 Subió Benaías, hijo de Yehoyadá, hirió a Joab y le mató y le sepultó en su casa en el desierto.
35 In his place as head of the army the king appointed Benaiah son of Jehoiada and, in place of Abiathar,the priest Zadok.	35 El rey puso en su lugar al frente del ejército a Benaías, hijo de Yehoyadá, y puso el rey al sacerdote Sadoq en el puesto de Abiatar.
36 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Build yourself a house in Jerusalem,' he told him. 'You are tolive there; do not leave it to go anywhere at all.	36 Envió el rey a llamar a Semeí y le dijo: «Hazte una casa en Jerusalén y vive en ella y no salgas ni acá ni allá.
37 The day you go out and cross the ravine of the Kidron, be sure you wil certainly die. Your blood wil beon your own head.'	37 El día que salgas y cruces el torrente Cedrón ten por sabido que sin remedio morirás y tu sangre caerá sobre tu cabeza».
38 'That is a fair demand,' Shimei replied to the king, 'your servant wil do as my lord the king orders.' Andfor a long time Shimei lived in Jerusalem.	38 Semeí dijo al rey: «Tu palabra es buena. Como ha dicho mi señor el rey, así hará su siervo». Semeí habitó en Jerusalén mucho tiempo.
39 But when three years had gone by, it happened that two of Shimei's slaves ran away to Achish son ofMaacah, king of Gath; Shimei was told, 'Your slaves are in Gath.'	39 Al cabo de tres años, dos de los siervos de Semeí huyeron a donde Akís, hijo de Maaká, rey de Gat; avisaron a Semeí: «Mira, tus siervos están en Gat».
40 On this, Shimei got up and saddled his donkey and went to Akish at Gath to find his slaves. He went offand brought his slaves back from Gath.	40 Se levantó Semeí, aparejó su asno y se fue a Gat, donde Akís, para buscar a sus siervos; fue Semeí y trajo a sus siervos de Gat.
41 Solomon was informed that Shimei had left Jerusalem for Gath and come back again.	41 Avisaron a Salomón: «Semeí ha ido de Jerusalén a Gat y ha vuelto».
42 The king had Shimei summoned to him. 'Did I not make you swear by Yahweh,' he said, 'and did I notwarn you, "The day you leave to go anywhere at all, be sure you wil certainly die"? To which you replied, "That is a fair demand."	42 Mandó el rey llamar a Semeí y le dijo: «¿Acaso no te hice jurar por Yahveh y te advertí: El día que salgas para ir acá o allá ten por sabido que sin remedio morirás y tú me has dicho: Buena es la palabra que he oído?
43 Why did you not keep the oath to Yahweh and the order which I imposed on you?'	43 ¿Por qué no has guardado el juramento de Yahveh y la orden que te di?»
44 The king then said to Shimei, 'You know wel al the evil you did to my father David. Yahweh is about tobring your wickedness down on your own head.	44 Dijo el rey a Semeí: «Tú sabes todo el mal que hiciste a David mi padre; Yahveh hace caer todo tu mal sobre tu cabeza,
45 But may King Solomon be blessed, and may the throne of David be kept secure before Yahweh forever!'	45 mientras el rey Salomón será bendito y el trono de David permanecerá ante Yahveh para siempre».
46 The king gave orders to Benaiah son of Jehoiada; he went out and struck Shimei down; and that washow he died. And now the kingdom was securely in Solomon's hands.	46 Dio orden el rey a Benaías, hijo de Yehoyadá, que salió e hirió a Semeí; éste murió. Y el reino se consolidó en las manos de Salomón.
