1 Once the king had settled into his palace and Yahweh had granted him rest from al the enemiessurrounding him,	1 - Avvenne che quando il re potè abitare tranquillamente nella sua casa e il Signore gli ebbe concesso pace, liberandolo da tutti i nemici che lo circondavano,
2 the king said to the prophet Nathan, 'Look, I am living in a cedar-wood palace, while the ark of God isunder awnings.'	2 disse a Natan profeta: «Guarda, io abito una casa di cedro e l'arca del Signore si trova sotto una tenda di pelli».
3 Nathan said to the king, 'Go and do whatever you have in mind, for Yahweh is with you.'	3 Natan rispose al re: «Va', e fa' tutto ciò che il cuore ti detta, poichè il Signore è con te».
4 But that very night, the word of Yahweh came to Nathan:	4 La notte seguente però il Signore parlò a Natan e disse:
5 'Go and tell my servant David, "Yahweh says this: Are you to build me a temple for me to live in?	5 «Va' a dire al mio servo Davide che il Signore ha detto questo: - Sarai tu a fabbricarmi una casa per mia abitazione?
6 I have never lived in a house from the day when I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until today, buthave kept travel ing with a tent for shelter.	6 Eppure io non ho abitato in una casa dal giorno che trassi i figli d'Israele fuori dall'Egitto fino ad ora, ma son sempre passato da luogo in luogo sotto una tenda o sotto un padiglione,
7 In al my travels with al the Israelites, did I say to any of the judges of Israel, whom I had commanded to shepherd my people Israel: Why do you not build me a cedar-wood temple?"	7 e dovunque ho viaggiato con tutti i figli d'Israele, non ho mai detto ad alcuna delle tribù d'Israele, alle quali avevo comandato di pascere il mio popolo di Israele: " Perchè non mi avete fabbricato una casa di legno di cedro? ".-
8 This is what you must say to my servant David, "Yahweh Sabaoth says this: I took you from thepasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel;	8 Ed ora dirai questo al servo mio Davide: - Così parla il Signore degli eserciti: "Io ti ho tolto dai pascoli ove seguivi il gregge, perchè divenissi duce del mio popolo Israele;
9 I have been with you wherever you went; I have got rid of al your enemies for you. I am going to makeyour fame as great as the fame of the greatest on earth.	9 io fui sempre con te dovunque sei andato, ho sterminato dinanzi a te tutti i tuoi nemici, e ho reso il tuo nome grande come quello dei grandi che sono sulla terra,
10 I am going to provide a place for my people Israel; I shall plant them there, and there they wil live andnever be disturbed again; nor wil they be oppressed by the wicked any more, as they were in former times	10 e darò una dimora al mio popolo d'Israele e ve lo stabilirò perchè abiti in casa sua e non sia più turbato, nè mai più i malvagi tornino ad opprimerlo come altra volta
11 ever since the time when I instituted judges to govern my people Israel; and I shal grant you rest fromal your enemies. Yahweh furthermore tel s you that he wil make you a dynasty.	11 all'epoca in cui stabilii dei giudici sopra il mio popolo d'Israele; e a te accorderò il riposo da tutti i tuoi nemici mentre il Signore ti annunzia che ti formerà una casa.
12 And when your days are over and you fal asleep with your ancestors, I shal appoint your heir, yourown son to succeed you (and I shal make his sovereignty secure.	12 Quando poi i tuoi giorni saranno terminati e tu dormirai coi padri tuoi, io susciterò dopo di te il tuo seme, che uscirà dalle tue viscere, e stabilirò il suo regno.
13 He wil build a temple for my name) and I shal make his royal throne secure for ever.	13 Egli edificherà una casa al mio nome e io stabilirò il trono del suo regno per sempre.
14 I shal be a father to him and he a son to me; if he does wrong, I shal punish him with a rod such asmen use, with blows such as mankind gives.	14 Io gli sarò padre ed egli sarà per me un figliuolo: se farà male lo castigherò colla verga degli uomini e coi colpi dei figli degli uomini;
15 But my faithful love wil never be withdrawn from him as I withdrew it from Saul, whom I removed frombefore you.	15 ma non toglierò a lui la mia misericordia, come la tolsi a Saul che ho rimosso dal mio cospetto.
16 Your dynasty and your sovereignty will ever stand firm before me and your throne be for ever secure."'	16 La tua casa e il tuo regno saranno perennemente assicurati dinanzi a te, e il tuo trono sarà stabile in perpetuo "-».
17 Nathan related al these words and this whole revelation to David.	17 Natan riferì a Davide tutte queste parole e tutta la visione avuta.
18 King David then went in, sat down in Yahweh's presence and said: 'Who am I, Lord Yahweh, and whatis my lineage, for you to have led me as far as this?	18 Davide allora entrò e sedutosi al cospetto del Signore disse: «Chi son io, o Signore Iddio, e che è mai la mia casa, che tu m'abbia condotto fino a questo punto?
19 Yet, to you, Lord Yahweh, this seemed too little, and now you extend your promises for your servant'sfamily into the distant future. Such is human destiny, Lord Yahweh.	19 Ma ciò parve ancor poco al tuo cospetto, o Signore Iddio, ed ora parli anche della casa del tuo servo, per un lontano avvenire; perchè questa è la legge di Adamo, o Signore Iddio.
20 What more can David say to you, since you, Lord Yahweh, know al about your servant?	20 Che cosa potrà dunque dirti ancora Davide? Tu conosci il tuo servo, o Signore Iddio.
21 Because of your promise and since you were so inclined, you have had the generosity to reveal this toyour servant.	21 Per la tua parola, e secondo il tuo cuore hai fatto tutte queste grandi cose per manifestarle al tuo servo:
22 That is why you are great, Lord Yahweh; there is no one like you, no God but you alone, as everythingthat we have heard confirms.	22 perciò ti sei dimostrato grande, o Signore Iddio, così che non vi è simile a te nè vi è Dio all'infuori di te, secondo tutto quello che con le nostre orecchie abbiamo inteso.
23 Is there another people on earth like your people, like Israel, whom a god proceeded to redeem, tomake them his people and to make a name for himself by performing great and terrible things on their behalf, bydriving out nations and their gods before his people? -	23 Qual è poi la nazione sopra la terra alla quale, come al tuo popolo d'Israele, Iddio andò per redimerla, per farne il suo popolo e per farsi un nome compiendo cose grandi e terribili sopra la terra in faccia al tuo popolo, che hai redento dall'Egitto, da quella nazione e dal suo Dio?
24 for you constituted your people Israel your own people for ever and you, Yahweh, became their God.	24 Tu hai stabilito che il popolo d'Israele fosse tuo popolo in eterno e tu, Signore Iddio, divenisti per lui il suo Dio.
25 'Now, Yahweh God, may the promise which you have made for your servant and for his family standfirm forever as you have said,	25 Ora adunque, o Signore Iddio, perpetua in eterno la parola che tu hai proferito sopra il tuo servo e sopra la casa di lui, e fa' secondo quanto hai detto,
26 so that your name wil be exalted for ever and people wil say, "Israel's God is Yahweh Sabaoth." Yourservant David's dynasty wil be secure before you,	26 affinchè sia glorificato eternamente il tuo nome e si dica: - il Signore degli eserciti è Dio sopra Israele. - E la casa del tuo servo Davide sarà stabile dinanzi al Signore;
27 since you, Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, have disclosed to your servant, "I am going to buildyou a dynasty." Hence, your servant has ventured to offer this prayer to you.	27 poichè tu, Dio degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele, hai fatto una rivelazione al tuo servo, dicendo: - Io ti edificherò una casa. - Perciò il tuo servo s'è fatto cuore per rivolgerti questa preghiera.
28 Yes, Lord Yahweh, you are God indeed, your words are true and you have made this generouspromise to your servant.	28 Ora adunque, o Signore Iddio, tu sei Dio e veraci saranno le tue parole, perchè tu hai annunziato queste buone cose al servo tuo.
29 What is more, you have deigned to bless your servant's dynasty, so that it may remain for ever beforeyou; for you, Lord Yahweh, have spoken; and may your servant's dynasty be blessed with your blessing forever.'	29 Comincia adunque a benedire la casa del tuo servo, affinchè essa sussista in perpetuo dinanzi a te, poichè tu, o Signore Iddio, hai parlato e per la tua benedizione la casa del tuo servo sarà benedetta in eterno».
