NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 After this David consulted Yahweh, asking, 'Shal I go up to one of the towns of Judah?' Yahwehreplied, 'Go up!' 'Which one shal I go to?' David asked. 'To Hebron,' was the reply.	1 Después de esto, consultó David a Yahveh diciendo: «¿Debo subir a alguna de las ciudades de Judá?» Yahveh le respondió: «Sube». David preguntó: «¿A cuál subiré?» «A Hebrón», respondió.
2 So David went up, with his two wives Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel.	2 Subió allí David con sus dos mujeres, Ajinoam de Yizreel y Abigaíl la mujer de Nabal de Carmelo.
3 In addition David brought up the men who were with him, each with his family, and they settled in thetowns of Hebron.	3 David hizo subir a los hombres que estaban con él, cada cual con su familia, y se asentaron en las ciudades de Hebrón.
4 The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David as king of the House of Judah. They told Davidthat the people of Jabesh in Gilead had given Saul burial,	4 Llegaron los hombres de Judá, y ungieron allí a David como rey sobre la casa de Judá. 5 so David sent messengers to the people of Jabesh in Gilead. 'May you be blessed by Yahweh,' he said,'for showing this faithful love to Saul your lord, and for burying him.	5 Y David envió mensajeros a los hombres de Yabés de Galaad para decirles: «Benditos seáis de Yahveh por haber hecho esta misericordia con Saúl, vuestro señor, dándole sepultura.
6 And now may Yahweh show faithful love and constancy towards you! I too shall treat you wel becauseyou have done this.	6 Que Yahveh sea con vosotros misericordioso y fiel. También yo os trataré bien por haber hecho esto.
7 And now take courage and be men of valour. Saul your lord is dead, but the House of Judah hasanointed me to be their king.'	7 Y ahora tened fortaleza y sed valerosos, pues murió Saúl, vuestro señor, pero la casa de Judá me ha ungido a mí por rey suyo».
8 Abner son of Ner, Saul's army commander, had taken Ishbaal son of Saul and brought him over toMahanaim.	8 Abner, hijo de Ner, jefe del ejército de Saúl, tomó a Isbaal, hijo de Saúl, y le hizo pasar a Majanáyim.
9 He had made him king of Gilead, of the Asherites, of Jezreel, of Ephraim, of Benjamin and indeed of allIsrael.	9 Le proclamó rey sobre Galaad, sobre los aseritas, sobre Yizreel, sobre Efraím y Benjamín y sobre todo Israel.
10 Ishbaal son of Saul was forty years old when he became king of Israel, and he reigned for two years.Only the House of Judah supported David.	10 Cuarenta años tenía Isbaal, hijo de Saúl, cuando fue proclamado rey de Israel; reinó dos años. Solamente la casa de Judá siguió a David.
11 The length of David's reign over Judah in Hebron was seven years and six months.	11 El número de días que estuvo David en Hebrón como rey de la casa de Judá fue de siete años y seis meses.
12 Abner son of Ner, with the retainers of Ishbaal son of Saul, marched out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.	12 Salió Abner, hijo de Ner, y los seguidores de Isbaal, hijo de Saúl, de Majanáyim hacia Gabaón.
13 Joab son of Zeruiah, with David's retainers, also took the field, encountering them at the pool ofGibeon. There they halted, one party on one side of the pool, and the other opposite.	13 Salieron también Joab, hijo de Sarvia, y los veteranos de David, y se encontraron cerca de la alberca de Gabaón; se detuvieron, los unos a un lado de la alberca y los otros al otro.
14 Abner then said to Joab, 'Let the men come forward and fight it out between us!' Joab replied, 'Letthem come forward.'	14 Dijo Abner a Joab: «Que se levanten los muchachos y luchen en nuestra presencia». Dijo Joab: «Que se levanten».
15 So they came forward and were numbered off, twelve from Benjamin for Ishbaal son of Saul, andtwelve of David's retainers.	15 Se levantaron y avanzaron los designados: doce de Benjamín por Isbaal, hijo de Saúl, y doce de los veteranos de David.
16 Each caught his opponent by the head and drove his sword into his side; and thus they al felltogether. Hence the place was cal ed the Field of Sides; it is at Gibeon.	16 Cada uno agarró a su adversario por la cabeza y le hundió la espada en el costado; así cayeron todos a la vez, por lo que aquel lugar se llamó: «Campo de los costados»; está en Gabaón.
17 That day a very fierce battle took place, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten by David'sretainers.	17 Hubo aquel día una batalla durísima y Abner y los hombres de Israel fueron derrotados por los veteranos de David.
18 The three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Now Asahel could run like a wildgazel e.	18 Estaban allí los tres hijos de Sarvia: Joab, Abisay y Asahel; era Asahel ligero de pies como un corzo montés.
19 Asahel chased Abner, not swerving to the right or left from pursuing him.	19 Asahel marchó en persecución de Abner, sin desviarse en su carrera tras de Abner ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.
20 Abner turned and said, 'Asahel, is that you?' He replied, 'It is.'	20 Se volvió Abner y dijo: «¿Eres tú Asahel?» Respondió: «Yo soy».
21 Abner said, 'Turn to your right or your left, catch one of the men and take his spoil!' But Asahel wouldnot break off the pursuit.	21 Abner le dijo: «Apártate a la derecha o a la izquierda. Atrapa a uno de esos muchachos y apodérate de sus despojos». Pero Asahel no quiso apartarse.
22 Again Abner spoke to Asahel, 'Stop following me, unless you want me to strike you to the ground; andthen how could I look your brother Joab in the face?'	22 Insistió de nuevo Abner diciendo a Asahel: «¡Apártate de mí! ¿Por qué he de derribarte en tierra? ¿Cómo podré alzar la vista ante tu hermano Joab?»
23 But he refused to be diverted, so Abner struck him in the belly with the butt of his spear so that theshaft came out through his back; and he fell at his feet and died on the spot. On coming to the place whereAsahel had fal en and died, everyone halted.	23 Pero no quiso apartarse y Abner le hirió en el vientre con el cuento de la lanza, saliéndole la lanza por detrás. Cayó y allí mismo murió. Todos cuantos llegaban al lugar donde Asahel cayó y murió se detenían.
24 Joab and Abishai took up the pursuit of Abner and at sunset reached the Hil of Ammah, which is tothe east of Giah on the road through the desert of Gibeon.	24 Joab y Abisay partieron en persecución de Abner; cuando el sol se ponía llegaron a la colina de Ammá que está al oriente de Giaj, sobre el camino del desierto de Gabaón.
25 The Benjaminites gathered in close formation behind Abner and halted on the top of a hil .	25 Los benjaminitas se agruparon tras de Abner en escuadrón cerrado y aguantaron a pie firme en la cumbre de una colina.
26 Abner cal ed out to Joab, 'Is the sword to go on devouring for ever? Surely you see that this can onlyend in bitterness? How long wil it be before you order those people to stop pursuing their brothers?'	26 Abner llamó a Joab y le dijo: «¿Hasta cuándo devorará la espada? ¿No sabes que, al cabo, todo será amargura? ¿ Hasta cuándo esperas a decir al pueblo que deje de perseguir a sus hermanos?»
27 Joab replied, 'As Yahweh lives, if you had not spoken, these men would not have given up the pursuitof their brothers until morning.'	27 Respondió Joab: «¡Vive Yahveh, que de no haber hablado tú, mi gente no hubiera dejado de perseguir cada uno a su hermano hasta el alba!»
28 Joab then sounded the trumpet and all the troops halted; they pursued Israel no further and fought nomore.	28 Joab hizo sonar el cuerno: toda la tropa se detuvo y no persiguió más a Israel; así cesó el combate.
29 Al that night Abner and his men made their way through the Arabah; they crossed the Jordan and,marching throughout the morning, came to Mahanaim.	29 Abner y sus hombres marcharon toda la noche por la Arabá, pasaron el Jordán y, después de caminar toda la mañana, llegaron a Majanáyim.
30 Joab, having stopped pursuing Abner, mustered the whole contingent; David's retainers had lostnineteen men in addition to Asahel,	30 Joab se volvió de la persecución de Abner y reunió todo el ejército; de los veteranos de David faltaban diecinueve hombres, además de Asahel.
31 but had killed three hundred and sixty of Benjamin, Abner's men.	31 Los veteranos de David mataron de Benjamín y de los hombres de Abner 360 hombres.
32 They took up Asahel and buried him in his father's tomb, which is at Bethlehem. Joab and his menthen marched throughout the night, reaching Hebron at daybreak.	32 Se llevaron a Asahel y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro de su padre en Belén. Joab y sus hombres caminaron toda la noche y despuntaba el día cuando llegaron a Hebrón.
