Genesis 47

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 So Joseph went and told Pharaoh, 'My father and brothers have arrived from Canaan with their flocksand cattle and al their possessions. Here they are, in the region of Goshen.'	1 Giuseppe andò allora a dire a Faraone: « Mio padre e i miei fratelli coi loro greggi e i loro armenti, e con tutto quello che hanno, son venuti dalla terra di Canaan; ed ecco si son fermati nella terra di Gessen.
2 He had taken five of his brothers, and he now presented them to Pharaoh.	2 Inoltre Giuseppe presentò al re gli ultimi cinque dei suoi fratelli:
3 Pharaoh asked his brothers, 'What is your occupation?' and they gave Pharaoh the answer, 'Yourservants are shepherds, like our fathers before us.'	3 ai quali il re domandò: « Che mestiere fate! » Essi risposero: « Noi tuoi servi siamo pastori, e come noi i nostri padri.
4 They went on to tel Pharaoh, 'We have come to stay in this country for the time being, since there isno pasturage for your servants' flocks, Canaan being stricken with famine. So now please al ow your servants tosettle in the region of Goshen.'	4 Siam venuti a pellegrinare nella tua terra, perchè non vi è pastura pei greggi dei tuoi servi nella terra di Canaan, mentre la carestia imperversa. Or ti preghiamo di ordinare che noi tuoi servi dimoriamo nella terra di Gessen ».
5 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph,'They may stay in the region of Goshen, and if you know of any capablemen among them, put them in charge of my own livestock.' Jacob and his sons went to Egypt where Josephwas. Pharaoh king of Egypt heard about this and said to Joseph, 'Your father and brothers have come to you.	5 Disse pertanto il re a Giuseppe: « Tuo padre e i tuoi fratelli son venuti a trovarti:
6 The country of Egypt is open to you: settle your father and brothers in the best region.'	6 la terra d'Egitto è a tua disposizione: falli abitare nel luogo migliore, e dà loro la terra di Gessen e se tra loro conosci degli uomini capaci, creali sopraintendenti dei miei bestiami ».
7 Joseph brought his father and presented him to Pharaoh. Jacob paid his respects to Pharaoh.	7 Poi Giuseppe condusse suo padre al re, e glielo presentò. Giacobbe augurò al re ogni bene,
8 Pharaoh asked Jacob, 'How many years have you lived?'	8 e da lui interrogato: « Quanti sono i tuoi anni! »
9 Jacob said to Pharaoh, 'The years of my stay on earth add up to one hundred and thirty years. Fewand unhappy my years have been, fal ing short of my ancestors' years in their stay on earth.'	9 rispose: « I giorni del mio pellegrinaggio sono giunti a centotrent'anni, sono stati pochi e cattivi, e non han raggiunto il tempo del pellegrinaggio dei miei padri ».
10 Jacob then took leave of Pharaoh and withdrew from his presence.	10 Ed augurato al re ogni bene, si ritirò.
11 Joseph then settled his father and brothers, giving them land holdings in Egypt, in the best part of thecountry, the region of Rameses, as Pharaoh had ordered.	11 Giuseppe poi diede al padre ed ai fratelli suoi dei possessi in Egitto, nella parte migliore del paese, in Ramesses, come Faraone aveva ordinato.
12 Joseph provided his father, brothers and al his father's family with food, down to the least of them.	12 E li manteneva, tutta la famiglia di suo padre, dando i viveri a ciascuno.
13 And on al the earth around there was now no food anywhere, for the famine had grown very severe,and Egypt and Canaan were both weak with hunger.	13 Or in tutto il mondo mancava il pane, e la fame opprimeva la terra, specialmente l'Egitto e Canaan.
14 Joseph accumulated al the money to be found in Egypt and Canaan, in exchange for the suppliesbeing handed out, and put the money in Pharaoh's palace.	14 E Giuseppe, vendendo il grano, raccolse tutto il danaro che si trovava in questi paesi, e lo pose nell'erario del re.
15 When al the money in Egypt and Canaan was exhausted, al the Egyptians came to Joseph,pleading, 'Give us food, unless you want us to die before your eyes! For our money has come to an end.'	15 Quando poi i compratori non ebbero più moneta, tutto l'Egitto andò da Giuseppe a dire: « Dacci del pane! E perchè dovremo morire davanti ai tuoi occhi per mancanza di danaro! »
16 Joseph replied, 'Hand over your livestock and I shal issue you food in exchange for your livestock, ifyour money has come to an end.'	16 Egli rispose loro: « Menate i vostri bestiami e vi darò da mangiare in cambio di essi, se non avete più danaro ».
17 So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for horses andlivestock, whether sheep or cattle, and for donkeys. Thus he saw them through that year with food in exchangefor all their livestock.	17 Avendo essi menati i loro bestiami, egli diede loro viveri, cambiandoli con cavalli, pecore, buoi ed asini. Cosi per quell'anno li sostentò ricevendo il loro bestiame.
18 When that year was over, they came to him the next year, and said to him, 'We cannot hide it frommy lord: the truth is, our money has run out and the livestock is in my lord's possession. There is nothing left formy lord except our bodies and our land.	18 Ma essi tornarono anche l'anno seguente e gli dissero: « Non celeremo al signor nostro, che finito il danaro e finito il bestiame, come ben vedi, non ci resta altro che i corpi e la terra.
19 If we and our land are not to perish, take us and our land in exchange for food, and we with our landwil become Pharaoh's serfs; only give us seed, so that we can survive and not die and the land not revert todesert!'	19 Perchè dovremmo morire, sotto i tuoi occhi! Noi e la nostra terra saremo tuoi: compraci come schiavi del re, ma dacci da seminare, affinchè, perendo il coltivatore, la terra non si riduca a un deserto ».
20 Thus Joseph acquired all the land in Egypt for Pharaoh, since one by one the Egyptians sold theirfields, so hard pressed were they by the famine; and the whole country passed into Pharaoh's possession,	20 Così Giuseppe comprò tutta la terra d'Egitto, perchè ciascuno, oppresso dalla gran fame, vendè i suoi possessi, e così l'assoggettò a Faraone
21 while the people he reduced to serfdom from one end of Egypt to the other.	21 con tutti i popoli, da un'estremità all'altra dell'Egitto,
22 The only land he did not acquire belonged to the priests, for the priests received an al owance fromPharaoh and lived on the al owance that Pharaoh gave them. Hence they had no need to sel their land.	22 eccettuate le terre dei sacerdoti, che le avevan dal re, ed ai quali era data una provvisione di viveri dai pubblici granai, e per questo non furon costretti a vendere le loro terre.
23 Then Joseph said to the people, 'This is how we stand: I have bought you out, with your land, onPharaoh's behalf. Here is seed for you to sow the land.	23 E Giuseppe disse ai popoli: « Come vedete, Faraone è padrone di voi e delle vostre terre; or eccovi il seme: seminate i campi,
24 But of the harvest you must give a fifth to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you can have for sowingyour fields, to provide food for yourselves and your households, and food for your children.'	24 per aver la raccolta. Darete al re il quinto: le altre quattro parti le lascio a voi per seminare, e per mantenere le vostre famiglie e i vostri figli ».
25 'You have saved our lives!' they replied. 'If it please my lord, we will become serfs to Pharaoh.'	25 Ed essi risposero: « Tu ci hai salvata la vita! Che il nostro signore rivolga a noi il suo sguardo, e serviremo con piacere al re ».
26 So Joseph made a law, still in force today, as regards the soil of Egypt, that one-fifth should go toPharaoh. Only the land of the priests did not go to Pharaoh.	26 Da quel tempo fino ad oggi, in tutta la terra d'Egitto vien pagato al re il quinto, essendo ciò divenuto come legge, e soltanto le terre dei sacerdoti son libere da questa servitù.
27 Thus Israel settled in Egypt, in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there; they were fruitfuland grew very numerous.	27 Israele adunque abitò in Egitto, nella terra di Gessen, che ebbe in suo possesso, e crebbe e si moltiplicò grandemente.
28 Jacob lived seventeen years in Egypt; thus Jacob's total age came to a hundred and forty-sevenyears.	28 E vi campò diciassette anni, e gli anni della sua vita giunsero a centoquarantasette.
29 When Israel's time to die drew near he sent for his son Joseph and said to him, 'If you real y love me,place your hand under my thigh as pledge that you will act with faithful love towards me: do not bury me inEgypt!	29 Or vedendo che si appressava il giorno della sua morte, fece chiamare il suo figlio Giuseppe e gli disse: « Se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, mettimi la mano sotto la coscia; tu userai con me bontà e fedeltà e non mi seppellirai in Egitto;
30 When I lie down with my ancestors, carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their tomb.' 'I shal do asyou say,' he replied.	30 ma io dormirò coi miei padri, e tu mi torrai da questa terra e mi riporrai nel sepolcro dei miei maggiori ». Giuseppe rispose: « Farò quanto comandi ».
31 'Swear to me,' he insisted. So he swore to him, and Israel sank back on the pil ow.	31 E Giacobbe: « Giuramelo ». Giuseppe lo giurò, e Israele, rivolto al capo del letticciolo, adorò Dio.
