Genesis 28

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 So Isaac summoned Jacob and blessed him; and he gave him this order: 'You are not to marry any ofthe Canaanite women.	1 Allora Isacco chiamò Giacobbe, gli diede gli addii, dopo avergli dato questo comando: "Tu non devi prender moglie tra le figlie di Canaan.
2 Go off to Paddan-Aram, the home of Bethuel your mother's father, and there choose a wife foryourself from the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.	2 Va' in Paddan-Aram, nella casa di Betuèl, padre di tua madre, e prenditi di là in moglie qualcuna delle figlie di Làbano, fratello di tua madre.
3 May El Shaddai bless you; may he make you fruitful and make you multiply so that you become agroup of nations.	3 Ti benedica Dio onnipotente, ti renda fecondo e ti moltiplichi, sì che tu diventi un'assemblea di popoli.
4 May he grant you the blessing of Abraham, you and your descendants after you, so that one day youmay own the country where you are now living as a stranger -- which God gave to Abraham.'	4 Conceda la benedizione di Abramo a te e alla tua discendenza con te, perché tu possegga la terra dove hai soggiornato come forestiero, quella che Dio ha dato ad Abramo".
5 Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and Jacob went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel theAramaean and brother of Rebekah the mother of Jacob and Esau.	5 Così Isacco fece partire Giacobbe, che andò in Paddan-Aram presso Làbano figlio di Betuèl, l'arameo, fratello di Rebecca, madre di Giacobbe e di Esaù.
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-Aram to choose a wife there,and that in blessing him he had given him this order: 'You are not to choose a wife from the Canaanite women,'	6 Esaù vide che Isacco aveva benedetto Giacobbe, l'aveva mandato in Paddan-Aram per prendersi una moglie di là e gli aveva dato un comando in questi termini: "Non prender moglie tra le figlie di Canaan";
7 and that, in obedience to his father and mother, Jacob had gone to Paddan-Aram,	7 e Giacobbe aveva obbedito a suo padre e a sua madre ed era partito per Paddan-Aram.
8 Esau then realised how much his father Isaac disapproved of the Canaanite women.	8 Così Esaù comprese che le figlie di Canaan erano malviste da Isacco, suo padre.
9 So Esau went to Ishmael and chose for a wife, in addition to the wives he had, Mahalath daughter ofAbraham's son Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.	9 Allora si recò da Ismaele e si prese in moglie Macalat figlia di Ismaele, figlio di Abramo, sorella di Nebaiot, oltre le mogli che aveva.
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.	10 Giacobbe partì da Bersabea e si diresse verso Carran.
11 When he had reached a certain place, he stopped there for the night, since the sun had set. Takingone of the stones of that place, he made it his pil ow and lay down where he was.	11 Capitò allora in un certo luogo, dove si fermò per pernottare, perché il sole era tramontato; prese una pietra, se la pose come cuscino del suo capo e si coricò in quel luogo.
12 He had a dream: there was a ladder, planted on the ground with its top reaching to heaven; andGod's angels were going up and down on it.	12 E sognò di vedere una scala che poggiava sulla terra, mentre la sua cima raggiungeva il cielo; ed ecco: gli angeli di Dio salivano e scendevano per essa.
13 And there was Yahweh, standing beside him and saying, 'I, Yahweh, am the God of Abraham yourfather, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you are lying I shall give to you and your descendants.	13 Ed ecco: il Signore gli stava davanti e disse: "Io sono il Signore, il Dio di Abramo, tuo padre, e il Dio d'Isacco. La terra sulla quale tu sei coricato la darò a te e al tuo seme.
14 Your descendants wil be as plentiful as the dust on the ground; you wil spread out to west and east,to north and south, and al clans on earth wil bless themselves by you and your descendants.	14 La tua discendenza sarà come la polvere della terra e ti estenderai a occidente e a oriente, a settentrione e a mezzogiorno. Saranno benedette in te e nella tua discendenza tutte le famiglie della terra.
15 Be sure, I am with you; I shal keep you safe wherever you go, and bring you back to this country, forI shal never desert you until I have done what I have promised you.'	15 Ed ecco che io sono con te e ti custodirò dovunque andrai e poi ti farò ritornare in questo paese, perché non ti abbandonerò se prima non avrò fatto tutto quello che ti ho detto".
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Truly, Yahweh is in this place and I did not know!'	16 Allora Giacobbe si svegliò dal suo sonno e disse: "Veramente c'è il Signore in questo luogo e io non lo sapevo!".
17 He was afraid and said, 'How awe-inspiring this place is! This is nothing less than the abode of God,and this is the gate of heaven!'	17 Ebbe paura e disse: "Com'è terribile questo luogo! Questa è nientemeno che la casa di Dio e la porta del cielo".
18 Early next morning, Jacob took the stone he had used for his pillow, and set it up as a pil ar, pouringoil over the top of it.	18 Si alzò Giacobbe alla mattina, prese la pietra che si era posta come cuscino del suo capo e la rizzò come stele sacra e versò olio sulla sua sommità.
19 He named the place Bethel, but before that the town had been cal ed Luz.	19 E chiamò quel luogo Betel, mentre prima il nome della città era Luz.
20 Jacob then made this vow, 'If God remains with me and keeps me safe on this journey I am making,if he gives me food to eat and clothes to wear,	20 Giacobbe fece questo voto: "Se Dio sarà con me e mi custodirà in questo viaggio che sto facendo e mi darà pane per mangiare e vesti per vestire,
21 and if I come home safe to my father's home, then Yahweh shal be my God.	21 e se ritornerò in pace alla casa di mio padre, allora il Signore sarà il mio Dio.
22 This stone I have set up as a pil ar is to be a house of God, and I shal faithful y pay you a tenth partof everything you give me.'	22 E questa pietra che io ho eretto come una stele sacra sarà una casa di Dio e di tutto quello che mi darai io ti offrirò la decima".
