Genesis 28

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 So Isaac summoned Jacob and blessed him; and he gave him this order: 'You are not to marry any ofthe Canaanite women.	1 Por eso, Isaac llamó a Jacob, lo bendijo, y le ordenó: «No te cases con una mujer cananea.
2 Go off to Paddan-Aram, the home of Bethuel your mother's father, and there choose a wife foryourself from the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.	2 Ve ahora mismo a Padán Aram, a la casa de Betuel, tu abuelo materno, y elige para ti una mujer entre las hijas de Labán, el hermano de tu madre.
3 May El Shaddai bless you; may he make you fruitful and make you multiply so that you become agroup of nations.	3 Que el Dios Todopoderoso te bendiga, te haga fecundo y te dé una descendencia numerosa, para que seas el padre de una asamblea de pueblos.
4 May he grant you the blessing of Abraham, you and your descendants after you, so that one day youmay own the country where you are now living as a stranger -- which God gave to Abraham.'	4 Que él te dé, a ti y a tu descendencia, la bendición de Abraham, para que puedas tomar posesión de la tierra donde ahora vives como extranjero, esa tierra que Dios concedió a Abraham».
5 Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and Jacob went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel theAramaean and brother of Rebekah the mother of Jacob and Esau.	5 Luego Isaac despidió a Jacob, y ese se fue a Padán Aram, a casa de Labán, hijo de Betuel, el arameo, y hermano de Rebeca, la madre de Jacob y de Esaú.
6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-Aram to choose a wife there,and that in blessing him he had given him this order: 'You are not to choose a wife from the Canaanite women,'	6 Esaú vio que Isaac había bendecido a Jacob y lo había enviado a Padán Aram para que se buscara allí una esposa. Vio, asimismo, que al bendecirlo le había dado esta orden: «No te cases con una mujer cananea»,
7 and that, in obedience to his father and mother, Jacob had gone to Paddan-Aram,	7 y que Jacob, obedeciendo a su padre y a su madre, se había ido a Padán Aram.
8 Esau then realised how much his father Isaac disapproved of the Canaanite women.	8 Entonces comprendió cuánto disgustaban a su padre Isaac las mujeres cananeas.
9 So Esau went to Ishmael and chose for a wife, in addition to the wives he had, Mahalath daughter ofAbraham's son Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.	9 Por eso acudió a Ismael, el hijo de Abraham, y tomó por esposa –además de las que ya tenía– a Majalat, hija de Ismael y hermana de Nebaiot.
10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran.	10 Jacob partió de Berseba y se dirigió hacia Jarán.
11 When he had reached a certain place, he stopped there for the night, since the sun had set. Takingone of the stones of that place, he made it his pil ow and lay down where he was.	11 De pronto llegó a un lugar, y se detuvo en él para pasar la noche, porque ya se había puesto el sol. Tomó una de las piedras del lugar, se la puso como almohada y se acostó allí.
12 He had a dream: there was a ladder, planted on the ground with its top reaching to heaven; andGod's angels were going up and down on it.	12 Entonces tuvo un sueño: vio una escalinata que estaba apoyada sobre la tierra, y cuyo extremo superior tocaba el cielo. Por ella subían y bajaban ángeles de Dios.
13 And there was Yahweh, standing beside him and saying, 'I, Yahweh, am the God of Abraham yourfather, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you are lying I shall give to you and your descendants.	13 Y el Señor, el Dios de Abraham, tu padre, y el Dios de Isaac. A ti y a tu descendencia les daré la tierra donde estás acostado.
14 Your descendants wil be as plentiful as the dust on the ground; you wil spread out to west and east,to north and south, and al clans on earth wil bless themselves by you and your descendants.	14 Tu descendencia será numerosa como el polvo de la tierra; te extenderás hacia el este y el oeste, el norte y el sur; y por ti y tu descendencia, se bendecirán todas las familias de la tierra.
15 Be sure, I am with you; I shal keep you safe wherever you go, and bring you back to this country, forI shal never desert you until I have done what I have promised you.'	15 Yo estoy contigo: te protegeré dondequiera que vayas, y te haré volver a esta tierra. No te abandonaré hasta haber cumplido todo lo que te prometo».
16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, 'Truly, Yahweh is in this place and I did not know!'	16 Jacob se despertó de su sueño y exclamó» «¡Verdaderamente el Señor está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía!».
17 He was afraid and said, 'How awe-inspiring this place is! This is nothing less than the abode of God,and this is the gate of heaven!'	17 Y lleno de temor, añadió: «¡Qué temible es este lugar! Es nada menos que la casa de Dios y la puerta del cielo».
18 Early next morning, Jacob took the stone he had used for his pillow, and set it up as a pil ar, pouringoil over the top of it.	18 A la madrugada del día siguiente, Jacob tomó la piedra que la había servido de almohada, la erigió como piedra conmemorativa, y derramó aceite sobre ella.
19 He named the place Bethel, but before that the town had been cal ed Luz.	19 Y a ese lugar, que antes se llamaba luz, lo llamó Betel, que significa «Casa de Dios».
20 Jacob then made this vow, 'If God remains with me and keeps me safe on this journey I am making,if he gives me food to eat and clothes to wear,	20 Luego Jacob hizo este voto: «Si Dios me acompaña y me protege durante el viaje que estoy realizando, si me da pan para comer y ropa para vestirme,
21 and if I come home safe to my father's home, then Yahweh shal be my God.	21 y si puedo regresar sano y salvo a la casa de mi padre, el Señor será mi Dios.
22 This stone I have set up as a pil ar is to be a house of God, and I shal faithful y pay you a tenth partof everything you give me.'	22 Y esta piedra conmemorativa que acabo de erigir, será la casa de Dios. Además, le pagaré el diezmo de todo lo que me dé».
