NEW AMERICAN BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
So I exhort the presbyters among you, as a fellow presbyter and witness to the sufferings of Christ and one who has a share in the glory to be revealed.1 The ancients therefore that are among you, I beseech, who am myself also an ancient, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ: as also a partaker of that glory which is to be revealed in time to come:
Tend the flock of God in your midst, (overseeing) not by constraint but willingly, as God would have it, not for shameful profit but eagerly.2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking care of it, not by constraint, but willingly, according to God: not for filthy lucre's sake, but voluntarily:
Do not lord it over those assigned to you, but be examples to the flock.3 Neither as lording it over the clergy, but being made a pattern of the flock from the heart.
And when the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.4 And when the prince of pastors shall appear, you shall receive a never fading crown of glory.
Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: "God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble."5 In like manner, ye young men, be subject to the ancients. And do you all insinuate humility one to another, for God resisteth the proud, but to the humble he giveth grace.
So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.6 Be you humbled therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in the time of visitation:
Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.7 Casting all your care upon him, for he hath care of you.
Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour.8 Be sober and watch: because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour.
Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings.9 Whom resist ye, strong in faith: knowing that the same affliction befalls your brethren who are in the world.
The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ (Jesus) will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little.10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little, will himself perfect you, and confirm you, and establish you.
To him be dominion forever. Amen.11 To him be glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.
I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Remain firm in it.12 By Sylvanus, a faithful brother unto you, as I think, I have written briefly: beseeching and testifying that this is the true grace of God, wherein you stand.
The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son.13 The church that is in Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you: and so doth my son Mark.
Greet one another with a loving kiss. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.14 Salute one another with a holy kiss. Grace be to all you, who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
