1 So I exhort the presbyters among you, as a fellow presbyter and witness to the sufferings of Christ and one who has a share in the glory to be revealed.	1 Esorto gli anziani che sono tra voi, quale anziano come loro, testimone delle sofferenze di Cristo e partecipe della gloria che deve manifestarsi:
2 Tend the flock of God in your midst, (overseeing) not by constraint but willingly, as God would have it, not for shameful profit but eagerly.	2 pascete il gregge di Dio che vi è affidato, sorvegliandolo non perché costretti ma volentieri, come piace a Dio, non per vergognoso interesse, ma con animo generoso,
3 Do not lord it over those assigned to you, but be examples to the flock.	3 non come padroni delle persone a voi affidate, ma facendovi modelli del gregge.
4 And when the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.	4 E quando apparirà il Pastore supremo, riceverete la corona della gloria che non appassisce.
5 Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: "God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble."	5 Anche voi, giovani, siate sottomessi agli anziani. Rivestitevi tutti di umiltà gli uni verso gli altri, perché Dio resiste ai superbi, ma dà grazia agli umili.
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.	6 Umiliatevi dunque sotto la potente mano di Dio, affinché vi esalti al tempo opportuno,
7 Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.	7 riversando su di lui ogni vostra preoccupazione, perché egli ha cura di voi.
8 Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour.	8 Siate sobri, vegliate. Il vostro nemico, il diavolo, come leone ruggente va in giro cercando chi divorare.
9 Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings.	9 Resistetegli saldi nella fede, sapendo che le medesime sofferenze sono imposte ai vostri fratelli sparsi per il mondo.
10 The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ (Jesus) will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little.	10 E il Dio di ogni grazia, il quale vi ha chiamati alla sua gloria eterna in Cristo Gesù, egli stesso, dopo che avrete un poco sofferto, vi ristabilirà, vi confermerà, vi rafforzerà, vi darà solide fondamenta.
11 To him be dominion forever. Amen.	11 A lui la potenza nei secoli. Amen!
12 I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Remain firm in it.	12 Vi ho scritto brevemente per mezzo di Silvano, che io ritengo fratello fedele, per esortarvi e attestarvi che questa è la vera grazia di Dio. In essa state saldi!
13 The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son.	13 Vi saluta la comunità che vive in Babilonia e anche Marco, figlio mio.
