1 This "Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of God Most High," "met Abraham as he returned from his defeat of the kings" and "blessed him."	1 PERCIOCCHÈ, questo Melchisedec era re di Salem, sacerdote dell’Iddio Altissimo; il quale venne incontro ad Abrahamo, che ritornava dalla sconfitta dei re, e lo benedisse;
2 And Abraham apportioned to him "a tenth of everything." His name first means righteous king, and he was also "king of Salem," that is, king of peace.	2 al quale ancora Abrahamo diede per parte sua la decima d’ogni cosa. E prima è interpretato: Re di giustizia; e poi ancora egli è nominato: Re di Salem, cioè: Re di pace;
3 Without father, mother, or ancestry, without beginning of days or end of life, thus made to resemble the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.	3 senza padre, senza madre, senza genealogia; non avendo nè principio di giorni, nè fin di vita; anzi, rappresentato simile al Figliuol di Dio, dimora sacerdote in perpetuo.
4 See how great he is to whom the patriarch "Abraham (indeed) gave a tenth" of his spoils.	4 Ora, considerate quanto grande fu costui, al quale Abrahamo il patriarca diede la decima delle spoglie.
5 The descendants of Levi who receive the office of priesthood have a commandment according to the law to exact tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers, although they also have come from the loins of Abraham.	5 Or quelli, d’infra i figliuoli di Levi, i quali ottengono il sacerdozio, hanno bene il comandamento, secondo la legge, di prender le decime dal popolo, cioè dai lor fratelli, benchè sieno usciti de’ lombi di Abrahamo.
6 But he who was not of their ancestry received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had received the promises.	6 Ma quel che non trae il suo legnaggio da loro decimò Abrahamo, e benedisse colui che avea le promesse.
7 Unquestionably, a lesser person is blessed by a greater.	7 Ora, fuor d’ogni contradizione, ciò che è minore è benedetto da ciò che è più eccellente.
8 In the one case, mortal men receive tithes; in the other, a man of whom it is testified that he lives on.	8 Oltre a ciò, qui son gli uomini mortali che prendono le decime; ma là le prende colui di cui è testimoniato che egli vive.
9 One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, was tithed through Abraham,	9 E per dir così, in Abrahamo fu decimato Levi stesso, che prende le decime.
10 for he was still in his father's loins when Melchizedek met him.	10 Perchè egli era ancora ne’ lombi del padre, quando Melchisedec l’incontrò
11 If, then, perfection came through the levitical priesthood, on the basis of which the people received the law, what need would there still have been for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not reckoned according to the order of Aaron?	11 Se adunque la perfezione era per il sacerdozio levitico poichè in su quello fu data la legge al popolo, che era egli più bisogno che sorgesse un altro sacerdote secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec, e che non fosse nominato secondo l’ordine d’Aaronne?
12 When there is a change of priesthood, there is necessarily a change of law as well.	12 Perciocchè, mutato il sacerdozio, di necessità si fa ancor mutazione di legge.
13 Now he of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, of which no member ever officiated at the altar.	13 Imperocchè colui, al cui riguardo queste cose son dette, è stato d’un’altra tribù, della quale niuno vacò mai all’altare.
14 It is clear that our Lord arose from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.	14 Poichè egli è notorio che il Signor nostro è uscito di Giuda, per la qual tribù Mosè non disse nulla del sacerdozio.
15 It is even more obvious if another priest is raised up after the likeness of Melchizedek,	15 E ciò è ancora vie più manifesto, poichè sorge un altro sacerdote alla somiglianza di Melchisedec.
16 who has become so, not by a law expressed in a commandment concerning physical descent but by the power of a life that cannot be destroyed.	16 Il quale, non secondo una legge di comandamento carnale, è stato fatto sacerdote; ma secondo una virtù di vita indissolubile.
17 For it is testified: "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."	17 Perciocchè egli testifica: Tu sei sacerdote in eterno, secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec.
18 On the one hand, a former commandment is annulled because of its weakness and uselessness,	18 Certo v’ha annullamento del comandamento precedente, per la sua debolezza, ed inutilità.
19 for the law brought nothing to perfection; on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.	19 Poichè la legge non ha compiuto nulla; e v’ha d’altra parte introduzione d’una migliore speranza, per la quale ci accostiamo a Dio.
20 And to the degree that this happened not without the taking of an oath --for others became priests without an oath,	20 Ed anche, in quanto che ciò non si è fatto senza giuramento; perciocchè quelli sono stati fatti sacerdoti senza giuramento.
21 but he with an oath, through the one who said to him: "The Lord has sworn, and he will not repent: 'You are a priest forever'"--	21 Ma questo con giuramento; per colui che gli dice: Il Signore ha giurato, e non se ne pentirà: Tu sei sacerdote in eterno, secondo l’ordine di Melchisedec.
22 to that same degree has Jesus (also) become the guarantee of an (even) better covenant.	22 D’un patto cotanto più eccellente è stato fatto Gesù mallevadore.
23 Those priests were many because they were prevented by death from remaining in office,	23 Oltre a ciò, coloro sono stati fatti sacerdoti più in numero; perciocchè per la morte erano impediti di durare.
24 but he, because he remains forever, has a priesthood that does not pass away.	24 Ma costui, perciocchè dimora in eterno, ha un sacerdozio che non trapassa ad un altro.
25 Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them.	25 Laonde ancora può salvare appieno coloro, i quali per lui si accostano a Dio, vivendo sempre, per interceder per loro.
26 It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens.	26 Perciocchè a noi conveniva un tal sommo sacerdote, che fosse santo, innocente, immacolato, separato da’ peccatori, e innalzato di sopra a’ cieli.
27 He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself.	27 Il qual non abbia ogni dì bisogno, come que’ sommi sacerdoti, d’offerir sacrificii, prima per i suoi propri peccati, poi per quelli del popolo; poichè egli ha fatto questo una volta, avendo offerto sè stesso.
28 For the law appoints men subject to weakness to be high priests, but the word of the oath, which was taken after the law, appoints a son, who has been made perfect forever.	28 Perciocchè la legge costituisce sommi sacerdoti uomini, che hanno infermità; ma la parola del giuramento fatto dopo la legge costituisce il Figliuolo, che è stato appieno consacrato in eterno
