1 At that time Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh	1 Neste mesmo tempo Josué chamou os Rubenitas, os Gaditas, e a meia tribo de Manassés,
2 and said to them: "You have done all that Moses, the servant of the LORD, commanded you, and have obeyed every command I gave you.	2 e disse-lhes: Vós fizestes tudo o que Moisés, servo do Senhor, vos ordenou; também a mim me tendes obedecido em tudo,
3 For many years now you have not once abandoned your kinsmen, but have faithfully carried out the commands of the LORD, your God.	3 e durante um tão largo tempo até ao dia de hoje não abandonastes os vossos irmãos, observando o mandamento do Senhor vosso Deus. Agora, visto que o Senhor vosso Deus deu repouso e paz aos vossos irmãos, como lho tinha prometido, voltai e ide para as vossas tendas, para a terra que vos pertence, terra que Moisés, servo do Senhor, vos deu da outra banda do Jordão.
4 Since, therefore, the LORD, your God, has settled your kinsmen as he promised them, you may now return to your tents beyond the Jordan; to your own land, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave you.
5 But be very careful to observe the precept and law which Moses, the servant of the LORD, enjoined upon you: love the LORD, your God; follow him faithfully; keep his commandments; remain loyal to him; and serve him with your whole heart and soul."	5 Só vos imponho de que cumprais exactamente o mandamento e a lei que Moisés, servo do Senhor, vos prescreveu, (isto é) que ameis o Senhor vosso Deus, andeis em todos os seus caminhos, observeis os seus mandamentos, estejais unidos a ele, e o sirvais de todo o coração e de toda a vossa alma.
6 Joshua then blessed them and sent them away to their own tents.	6 Depois deu-lhes Josué a benção e os despediu. Eles voltaram para as suas tendas.
7 (For, to half the tribe of Manasseh Moses had assigned land in Bashan; and to the other half Joshua had given a portion along with their kinsmen west of the Jordan.) What Joshua said to them when he sent them off to their tents with his blessing was,	7 Ora Moisés tinha dado à meia tribo de Manassés uma possessão em Basan; por isso Josué deu, à outra meia, uma parte entre os outros seus irmãos, na banda de aquém do Jordão, para o ocidente. Reenviando-os para as suas tendas e, tendo-os abençoado,
8 "Now that you are returning to your own tents with great wealth, with very numerous livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and with a very large supply of clothing, divide these spoils of your enemies with your kinsmen there."	8 disse-lhes: Vós voltais para vossas casas com muitas riquezas, rebanhos numerosos, com prata e ouro, bronze e ferro, e vestidos de toda a qualidade; reparti com vossos irmãos a presa dos inimigos.
9 So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and returned to the land of Gilead, their own property, which they had received according to the LORD'S command through Moses.	9 Os filhos de Ruben e os filhos de Gad, com a meia tribo de Manassés, voltaram, e separaram-se dos filhos de Israel em Silo, que está em Canaan, para entrarem em Galaad, terra da sua possessão, que tinham obtido por meio de Moisés, conforme a ordem do Senhor.
10 When the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh came to the region of the Jordan in the land of Canaan, they built there at the Jordan a conspicuously large altar.	10 E, tendo chegado aos distritos do Jordão, na terra de Canaan, edificaram junto ao Jordão um altar de imensa grandeza,
11 The other Israelites heard the report that the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar in the region of the Jordan facing the land of Canaan, across from them,	11 Tendo ouvido isto os filhos de Israel, e sabido por mensageiros seguros, que os filhos de Ruben, de Gad e da meia tribo de Manassés, tinham edificado um altar na terra de Canaan, nos distritos do Jordão, defronte dos filhos de Israel,
12 and therefore they assembled their whole community at Shiloh to declare war on them.	12 reuniram-se todos em Silo, para marcharem e combaterem contra eles.
13 First, however, they sent to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead an embassy consisting of Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest,	13 Entretanto enviaram-lhes, à terra de Galaad, Finéas, filho do sacerdote Eleázaro,
14 and ten princes, one from every tribe of Israel, each one being both prince and military leader of his ancestral house.	14 e com ele dez príncipes, cada um de sua tribo.
15 When these came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, they said to them:	15 Estes (enviados) foram ter com os filhos de Ruben, de Gad e da meia tribo de Manassés, na terra de Galaad, e disseram-lhes:
16 "The whole community of the LORD sends this message: What act of treachery is this you have committed against the God of Israel? You have seceded from the LORD this day, and rebelled against him by building an altar of your own!	16 Estas coisas vos manda dizer todo o povo do Senhor: Que transgressão é esta? Por que abandonastes vós o Senhor Deus de Israel, levantando um altar sacrílego, e apartando-vos do seu culto?
17 For the sin of Peor, a plague came upon the community of the LORD.	17 Porventura parece-vos pouco o pecado de Beelfegor, do qual ainda hoje não estamos purificados, apesar de, por causa dele, muitos do povo terem perecido?
18 We are still not free of that; must you now add to it? You are rebelling against the LORD today and by tomorrow he will be angry with the whole community of Israel!	18 Vós abandonastes hoje o Senhor, e amanhã cairá a sua ira sobre todo o Israel.
19 If you consider the land you now possess unclean, cross over to the land the LORD possesses, where the Dwelling of the LORD stands, and share that with us. But do not rebel against the LORD, nor involve us in rebellion, by building an altar of your own in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God.	19 Se julgais que a terra da vossa herança é impura, passai para a terra em que está o tabernáculo do Senhor, habitai entre nós, contanto que vos não aparteis do Senhor, nem da nossa sociedade, edificando um altar além do altar do Senhor nosso Deus.
20 When Achan, son of Zerah, violated the ban, did not wrath fall upon the entire community of Israel? Though he was but a single man, he did not perish alone for his guilt!"	20 Não foi assim, por Acan filho de Zaré ter violado o mandamento do Senhor, que a sua ira veio sobre todo o povo de Israel? Ele era um só homem, e oxalá que só ele tivesse perecido por causa do seu crime.
21 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the military leaders of the Israelites: "The LORD is the God of gods.	21 Os filhos de Ruben, de Gad e da meia tribo de Manassés, responderam aos chefes da legação de Israel:
22 The LORD, the God of gods, knows and Israel shall know. If now we have acted out of rebellion or treachery against the LORD, our God,	22 O Senhor Deus fortíssimo, o Senhor Deus fortíssimo, ele o sabe, e também Israel o compreenderá; se nós com espírito de prevaricação levantamos este altar, ele nos não proteja, mas desde já nos castigue;
23 and if we have built an altar of our own to secede from the LORD, or to offer holocausts, grain offerings or peace offerings upon it, the LORD himself will exact the penalty.	23 se o fizemos com intenção de nos afastarmos do Senhor, e oferecer sobre ele holocaustos, oblações e sacrifícios pacíficos, ele mesmo o examine e julgue.
24 We did it rather out of our anxious concern lest in the future your children should say to our children: 'What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?	24 Muito pelo contrário: o pensamento e desígnio que tivemos foi porque poderá acontecer que um dia digam os vossos filhos aos nossos: Que tendes vós com o Senhor Deus de Israel?
25 For the LORD has placed the Jordan as a boundary between you and us. You descendants of Reuben and Gad have no share in the LORD.' Thus your children would prevent ours from revering the LORD.	25 O Senhor pôs o rio Jordão por termo entre nós e vós, ó filhos de Ruben, ó filhos de Gad; e por isso não tendes parte no Senhor. Nesta ocasião os vossos filhos poderiam afastar os nossos do temor do Senhor. Portanto, julgámos que era melhor (proceder assim)
26 So we decided to guard our interests by building this altar of our own: not for holocausts or for sacrifices,	26 e dissemos: Façamos um altar, não para oferecer holocaustos, nem vítimas,
27 but as evidence for you on behalf of ourselves and our descendants, that we have the right to worship the LORD in his presence with our holocausts, sacrifices, and peace offerings. Now in the future your children cannot say to our children, 'You have no share in the LORD.'	27 mas para testemunho entre nós e vós, e entre a nossa posteridade e a vossa, de que servimos ao Senhor e de que temos direito de lhe oferecer holocaustos, sacrifícios e vítimas pacíficas, e para que os vossos filhos não digam amanhã aos nossos filhos: Vós não tendes parte no Senhor.
28 Our thought was, that if in the future they should speak thus to us or to our descendants, we could answer: 'Look at the model of the altar of the LORD which our fathers made, not for holocausts or for sacrifices, but to witness between you and us.'	28 Se o quiserem dizer, responder-lhe-ão: Eis o altar do Senhor, que os nossos pais fizeram, não para holocaustos, nem sacrifícios, mas para testemunho entre nós e vós.
29 Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD or to secede now from the LORD by building an altar for holocaust, grain offering, or sacrifice in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God, which stands before his Dwelling."	29 Longe de nós este crime que nos apartemos do Senhor, que deixemos de seguir as suas pisadas, edificando um altar para oferecer holocaustos, oblações e sacrifícios, fora do altar do Senhor nosso Deus, que está levantado diante do seu tabernáculo.
30 When Phinehas the priest and the princes of the community, the military leaders of the Israelites, heard what the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites had to say, they were satisfied.	30 Quando ouviram isto, o sacerdote Finéas e os chefes da legação de Israel, que com ele estavam, apaziguaram-se, e acolheram com grande satisfação as palavras dos filhos de Ruben, de Gad e da meia tribo de Manassés.
31 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites, "Now we know that the LORD is with us. Since you have not committed this act of treachery against the LORD, you have kept the Israelites free from punishment by the LORD."	31 O sacerdote Finéas, filho de Eleázaro, disse-lhes: Agora sabemos que o Senhor está convosco, visto que estais alheios a tal prevaricação, e livrastes os filhos de Israel da mão ( justamente vingadora) do Senhor.
32 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites in the land of Gilead to the Israelites in the land of Canaan, and reported the matter to them.	32 E, deixando os filhos de Ruben e de Gad, voltou com os chefes, da terra de Galaad, nos confins de Canaan, para os filhos de Israel, e deu-lhes conta de tudo.
33 The report satisfied the Israelites, who blessed God and decided against declaring war on the Reubenites and Gadites or ravaging the land they occupied.	33 O seu falar agradou a todos os que o ouviram. Os filhos de Israel louvaram a Deus, e não falaram mais em sair contra eles para lhes fazer guerra e devastar a terra da sua possessão.
34 The Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar its name as a witness among them that the LORD is God.	34 Os filhos de Ruben e de Gad chamaram ao altar que tinham edificado Ed, porque — (disseram) — é testemunho, para nós, de que Javé é (o verdadeiro) Deus.
