Joshua 22

1 At that time Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh	1 Allora Giosuè chiamò i Rubeniti, i Gaditi, e la mezza tribù di Manasse,
2 and said to them: "You have done all that Moses, the servant of the LORD, commanded you, and have obeyed every command I gave you.	2 e disse loro: « Voi avete fatto tutto ciò che Mosè servo del Signore vi aveva prescritto, e avete ubbidito a me in tutto;
3 For many years now you have not once abandoned your kinsmen, but have faithfully carried out the commands of the LORD, your God.	3 voi, osservando il comando del Signore Dio vostro, per questo lungo tempo, fino ad oggi non avete abbandonato i vostri fratelli.
4 Since, therefore, the LORD, your God, has settled your kinsmen as he promised them, you may now return to your tents beyond the Jordan; to your own land, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave you.	4 Or che il Signore Dio vostro ha dato riposo e pace ai vostri fratelli, come promise, ritornatevene pure e andate a casa vostra, al vostro territorio che Mosè servo del Signore vi diede di là dal Giordano
5 But be very careful to observe the precept and law which Moses, the servant of the LORD, enjoined upon you: love the LORD, your God; follow him faithfully; keep his commandments; remain loyal to him; and serve him with your whole heart and soul."	5 però osservate con diligenza e mettete in pratica i comandamenti e la legge che Mosè servo del Signore vi ha prescritta, amando il Signore Dio vostro, camminando in tutte le sue vie, osservandone i comandamenti, stando uniti a lui e servendolo con tutto il cuore, con tutta l'anima vostra ».
6 Joshua then blessed them and sent them away to their own tents.	6 Cosi Giosuè li benedisse e li accomiatò. Ed essi se ne tornarono alle loro tende.
7 (For, to half the tribe of Manasseh Moses had assigned land in Bashan; and to the other half Joshua had given a portion along with their kinsmen west of the Jordan.) What Joshua said to them when he sent them off to their tents with his blessing was,	7 Avendo Mosè dato alla mezza tribù di Manasse il territorio in Basati, Giosuè diede all'altra metà una porzione in mezzo agli altri suoi fratelli di qua dal Giordano, a occidente. Rimandandoli adunque alle loro tende, dopo averli benedetti, e
8 "Now that you are returning to your own tents with great wealth, with very numerous livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and with a very large supply of clothing, divide these spoils of your enemies with your kinsmen there."	8 disse loro: « Voi ve ne tornate alle vostre dimore con molti beni e ricchezze argento, oro. rame, ferro e vesti d'ogni sorta: dividete coi vostri fratelli la preda tolta ai nemici ».
9 So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and returned to the land of Gilead, their own property, which they had received according to the LORD'S command through Moses.	9 al figli di Ruben, di Gad e la mezza tribù di Manasse si separarono dai figli d'Israele in Silo, che è in Canaan, per tornare in Galaad, nella terra di loro possesso, che avevano ottenuta secondo l'ordine del Signore per mezzo di Mosè.
10 When the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh came to the region of the Jordan in the land of Canaan, they built there at the Jordan a conspicuously large altar.	10 Giunti che furono ai tumuli del Giordano, nella terra di Canaan, eressero presso il Giordano un altare d'immensa grandezza.
11 The other Israelites heard the report that the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar in the region of the Jordan facing the land of Canaan, across from them,	11 Or quando i figli d'Israele ebbero udito ciò, e fu loro assicurato che i figli di Ruben, di Gad e la mezza tribù di anasse avevano eretto un altare nella terra di Canaan, sui tumuli di faccia ai figli d'Israele,
12 and therefore they assembled their whole community at Shiloh to declare war on them.	12 si adunarono tutti in Silo per andare a combatterli.
13 First, however, they sent to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead an embassy consisting of Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest,	13 Ma avanti mandarono loro nella terra di Galaad Finees, figlio del sacerdote Eleazaro,
14 and ten princes, one from every tribe of Israel, each one being both prince and military leader of his ancestral house.	14 e con lui dieci principi, uno per tribù.
15 When these came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, they said to them:	15 Questi, andati dai figli di Ruben, di Gad e della mezza tribù di Manasse, nella terra di Galaad. dissero loro:
16 "The whole community of the LORD sends this message: What act of treachery is this you have committed against the God of Israel? You have seceded from the LORD this day, and rebelled against him by building an altar of your own!	16 « Ecco quanto manda a dirvi tutto il popolo del Signore: Che trasgressione è mai questa? Perchè avete abbandonato il Signore Dio d'Israele, erigendo un altare sacrilego e vi ritraete dal suo culto!
17 For the sin of Peor, a plague came upon the community of the LORD.	17 Non vi basta aver peccato a Beelfegor, del qual delitto rimane sopra di noi la macchia nonostante che molti del popolo sian periti?
18 We are still not free of that; must you now add to it? You are rebelling against the LORD today and by tomorrow he will be angry with the whole community of Israel!	18 E anche oggi voi abbandonate il Signore, perchè domani infierisca la sua ira contro tutto Israele.
19 If you consider the land you now possess unclean, cross over to the land the LORD possesses, where the Dwelling of the LORD stands, and share that with us. But do not rebel against the LORD, nor involve us in rebellion, by building an altar of your own in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God.	19 Se poi credete che il vostro territorio sia immondo, passate nella terra ove è il Tabernacolo del Signore e abitate tra noi: purché non vi allontaniate dal Signore, nè dalla nostra società, alzando un altro altare oltre quello del Signore Dio nostro.
20 When Achan, son of Zerah, violated the ban, did not wrath fall upon the entire community of Israel? Though he was but a single man, he did not perish alone for his guilt!"	20 Acan figlio di Zare fu solo a trasgredire il comando del Signore: ma l'ira del Signore piombò su tutto i popolo d'Israele. Egli era un uomo solo, ma fosse perito solo lui pel suo peccato! »
21 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the military leaders of the Israelites: "The LORD is the God of gods.	21 Sii figli di Ruben, di Gad e della mezza tribù di Manasse risposero ai principi della legazione d'Israele:
22 The LORD, the God of gods, knows and Israel shall know. If now we have acted out of rebellion or treachery against the LORD, our God,	22 « Il fortissimo Dio Signore, il fortissimo Dio Signore lo sa, e Israele lo saprà: se con spirito di prevaricazione abbiamo fabbricato quest'altare, egli invece di custodirci, ci punisca subito;
23 and if we have built an altar of our own to secede from the LORD, or to offer holocausts, grain offerings or peace offerings upon it, the LORD himself will exact the penalty.	23 egli stesso esamini e giudichi se lo abbiamo fatto con intenzione d'imporvi sopra olocausti, sacrifizi e vittime pacifiche,
24 We did it rather out of our anxious concern lest in the future your children should say to our children: 'What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?	24 non piuttosto dietro un pensiero ed un consiglio che ci fa ceva dire: Domani i vostri figli diranno ai figli nostri: Che avete che fare voi col Signore Dio d'Israele?
25 For the LORD has placed the Jordan as a boundary between you and us. You descendants of Reuben and Gad have no share in the LORD.' Thus your children would prevent ours from revering the LORD.	25 Il Signore ha posto un confine tra noi e voi, o figli di Ruben e figli di Gad: il fiume Giordano: non avete quindi alcuna parte col Signore. E allora i vostri figli potrebbero ritrarre i figli nostri dal timore del Signore. Ripensandoci meglio,
26 So we decided to guard our interests by building this altar of our own: not for holocausts or for sacrifices,	26 abbiamo detto: Facciamoci un altare, non per gli olocausti, nè per offrirvi vittime,
27 but as evidence for you on behalf of ourselves and our descendants, that we have the right to worship the LORD in his presence with our holocausts, sacrifices, and peace offerings. Now in the future your children cannot say to our children, 'You have no share in the LORD.'	27 ma perchè serva di testimonio fra noi e voi, tra la nostra posterità e la vostra e anche noi serviamo al Signore e abbiamo diritto d'offrire olocausti, vittime e ostie pacifiche, chè non abbiano a dire domani i vostri figli ai nostri: Voi non avete alcuna parte nel Signore.
28 Our thought was, that if in the future they should speak thus to us or to our descendants, we could answer: 'Look at the model of the altar of the LORD which our fathers made, not for holocausts or for sacrifices, but to witness between you and us.'	28 E quando lo volessero dire, essi possali rispondere loro: Ecco l'altare del Signore, fatto dai nostri padri, non per gli olocausti, nè per il sacrifizio; ma in testimonio tra noi e voi.
29 Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD or to secede now from the LORD by building an altar for holocaust, grain offering, or sacrifice in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God, which stands before his Dwelling."	29 Lungi da noi la scelleratezza di allontanarci dal Signore, di abbandonare le sue vie, di erigere un altare per offrirvi olocausti, sacrifizi e ostie pacifiche, oltre l'altare del Signore Dio nostro, che è eretto davanti al Tabernacolo ».
30 When Phinehas the priest and the princes of the community, the military leaders of the Israelites, heard what the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites had to say, they were satisfied.	30 Udite tali cose, il sacerdote Finees e i capi della legazione d'Israele che eran con lui si calmarono, accogliendo con grandissima soddisfazione le parole dei figli Ruben, di Gad e della mezza Manasse.
31 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites, "Now we know that the LORD is with us. Since you have not committed this act of treachery against the LORD, you have kept the Israelites free from punishment by the LORD."	31 E il sacerdote Finees, figlio di Eleazaro, disse loro: « Or conosciamo che il Signore è con voi: essendo voi alieni da tale prevaricazione, avete liberato i figli dTsraele dalla mano del Signore ».
32 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites in the land of Gilead to the Israelites in the land of Canaan, and reported the matter to them.	32 Così Finees, coi principi partito dai figli di Ruben, di Gad e dalla terra di Galaad, tornò nella terra di Canaan, dai figli d'Israele, e fece loro sua relazione.
33 The report satisfied the Israelites, who blessed God and decided against declaring war on the Reubenites and Gadites or ravaging the land they occupied.	33 La cosa piacque a quanti l'udirono, e i figli d'Israele ne lodarono il Signore, e non dissero più di andare a combatterli e a devastarne territorio.
34 The Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar its name as a witness among them that the LORD is God.	34 I figli di Ruben e quelli di Gad chiamarono l'altare da loro eretto: Nostra testimonianza che il Signore stesso è Dio.
