2 Corinthians 10

1 Now I myself, Paul, urge you through the gentleness and clemency of Christ, I who am humble when face to face with you, but brave toward you when absent,	1 Ora io stesso, Paolo, vi esorto per la dolcezza e la mansuetudine di Cristo, io davanti a voi così meschino, ma di lontano così animoso con voi;
2 I beg you that, when present, I may not have to be brave with that confidence with which I intend to act boldly against some who consider us as acting according to the flesh.	2 vi supplico di far in modo che non avvenga che io debba mostrare, quando sarò tra voi, quell'energia che ritengo di dover adoperare contro alcuni che pensano che noi camminiamo secondo la carne.
3 For, although we are in the flesh, we do not battle according to the flesh,	3 In realtà, noi viviamo nella carne ma non militiamo secondo la carne. Infatti le armi della nostra battaglia non sono carnali,
4 for the weapons of our battle are not of flesh but are enormously powerful, capable of destroying fortresses. We destroy arguments	4 ma hanno da Dio la potenza di abbattere le fortezze,
5 and every pretension raising itself against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive in obedience to Christ,	5 distruggendo i ragionamenti e ogni baluardo che si leva contro la conoscenza di Dio, e rendendo ogni intelligenza soggetta all'obbedienza al Cristo.
6 and we are ready to punish every disobedience, once your obedience is complete.	6 Perciò siamo pronti a punire qualsiasi disobbedienza, non appena la vostra obbedienza sarà perfetta.
7 Look at what confronts you. Whoever is confident of belonging to Christ should consider that as he belongs to Christ, so do we.	7 Guardate le cose bene in faccia: se qualcuno ha in se stesso la persuasione di appartenere a Cristo, si ricordi che se lui è di Cristo lo siamo anche noi.
8 And even if I should boast a little too much of our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for tearing you down, I shall not be put to shame.	8 In realtà, anche se mi vantassi di più a causa della nostra autorità, che il Signore ci ha dato per vostra edificazione e non per vostra rovina, non avrò proprio da vergognarmene.
9 May I not seem as one frightening you through letters.	9 Non sembri che io vi voglia spaventare con le lettere!
10 For someone will say, "His letters are severe and forceful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible."	10 Perché "le lettere - si dice - sono dure e forti, ma la sua presenza fisica è debole e la parola dimessa".
11 Such a person must understand that what we are in word through letters when absent, that we also are in action when present.	11 Questo tale rifletta però che quali noi siamo a parole per lettera, assenti, tali saremo anche con i fatti, di presenza.
12 Not that we dare to class or compare ourselves with some of those who recommend themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.	12 Certo noi non abbiamo l'audacia di uguagliarci o paragonarci ad alcuni di quelli che si raccomandano da sé; ma mentre si misurano su di sé e si paragonano con se stessi, mancano di intelligenza.
13 But we will not boast beyond measure but will keep to the limits God has apportioned us, namely, to reach even to you.	13 Noi invece non ci vanteremo oltre misura, ma secondo la norma della misura che Dio ci ha assegnato, sì da poter arrivare fino a voi;
14 For we are not overreaching ourselves, as though we did not reach you; we indeed first came to you with the gospel of Christ.	14 né ci innalziamo in maniera indebita, come se non fossimo arrivati fino a voi, perché fino a voi siamo giunti col vangelo di Cristo.
15 We are not boasting beyond measure, in other people's labors; yet our hope is that, as your faith increases, our influence among you may be greatly enlarged, within our proper limits,	15 né ci vantiamo indebitamente di fatiche altrui, ma abbiamo la speranza, col crescere della vostra fede, di crescere ancora nella vostra considerazione, secondo la nostra misura,
16 so that we may preach the gospel even beyond you, not boasting of work already done in another's sphere.	16 per evangelizzare le regioni più lontane della vostra, senza vantarci alla maniera degli altri delle cose già fatte da altri.
17 "Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord."	17 Pertanto 'chi si vanta, si vanti nel Signore';
18 For it is not the one who recommends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord recommends.	18 perché non colui che si raccomanda da sé viene approvato, ma colui che il Signore raccomanda.
