1 When the disturbance was over, Paul had the disciples summoned and, after encouraging them, he bade them farewell and set out on his journey to Macedonia.	1 Après que le tumulte eut pris fin, Paul convoqua les disciples, leur adressa une exhortation et, aprèsavoir fait ses adieux, partit pour la Macédoine.
2 As he traveled throughout those regions, he provided many words of encouragement for them. Then he arrived in Greece,	2 Il traversa cette contrée, y exhorta longuement les fidèles et parvint en Grèce,
3 where he stayed for three months. But when a plot was made against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he decided to return by way of Macedonia.	3 où il resta trois mois. Un complot fomenté par les Juifs contre lui au moment où il allait s'embarquerpour la Syrie le décida à s'en retourner par la Macédoine.
4 Sopater, the son of Pyrrhus, from Beroea, accompanied him, as did Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus from Asia	4 Il avait pour compagnons Sopatros, fils de Pyrrhus, de Bérée; Aristarque et Secundus, deThessalonique; Gaïus, de Dobérès, et Timothée, ainsi que les Asiates Tychique et Trophime.
5 who went on ahead and waited for us at Troas.	5 Ceux-ci prirent les devants et nous attendirent à Troas.
6 We sailed from Philippi after the feast of Unleavened Bread, and rejoined them five days later in Troas, where we spent a week.	6 Nous-mêmes, nous quittâmes Philippes par mer après les jours des Azymes et, au bout de cinq jours,les rejoignîmes à Troas, où nous passâmes sept jours.
7 On the first day of the week when we gathered to break bread, Paul spoke to them because he was going to leave on the next day, and he kept on speaking until midnight.	7 Le premier jour de la semaine, nous étions réunis pour rompre le pain; Paul, qui devait partir lelendemain, s'entretenait avec eux. Il prolongea son discours jusqu'au milieu de la nuit.
8 There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were gathered,	8 Il y avait bon nombre de lampes dans la chambre haute où nous étions réunis.
9 and a young man named Eutychus who was sitting on the window sill was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. Once overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and when he was picked up, he was dead.	9 Un adolescent, du nom d'Eutyque, qui était assis sur le bord de la fenêtre, se laissa gagner par unprofond sommeil, pendant que Paul discourait toujours. Entraîné par le sommeil, il tomba du troisième étage enbas. On le releva mort.
10 Paul went down, threw himself upon him, and said as he embraced him, "Don't be alarmed; there is life in him."	10 Paul descendit, se pencha sur lui, le prit dans ses bras et dit: "Ne vous agitez donc pas: son âme esten lui."
11 Then he returned upstairs, broke the bread, and ate; after a long conversation that lasted until daybreak, he departed.	11 Puis il remonta, rompit le pain et mangea; longtemps encore il parla, jusqu'au point du jour. C'estalors qu'il partit.
12 And they took the boy away alive and were immeasurably comforted.	12 Quant au jeune garçon, on le ramena vivant, et ce ne fut pas une petite consolation.
13 We went ahead to the ship and set sail for Assos where we were to take Paul on board, as he had arranged, since he was going overland.	13 Pour nous, prenant les devants par mer, nous fîmes voile vers Assos, où nous devions prendre Paul:ainsi en avait-il disposé. Lui-même viendrait par la route.
14 When he met us in Assos, we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.	14 Lorsqu'il nous eut rejoints à Assos, nous le prîmes à bord et gagnâmes Mitylène.
15 We sailed away from there on the next day and reached a point off Chios, and a day later we reached Samos, and on the following day we arrived at Miletus.	15 De là, nous repartîmes le lendemain et parvînmes devant Chio. Le jour suivant, nous touchions àSamos, et, après nous être arrêtés à Trogyllion, nous arrivions le jour d'après à Milet.
16 Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus in order not to lose time in the province of Asia, for he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if at all possible, for the day of Pentecost.	16 Paul avait en effet décidé de passer au large d'Ephèse, pour ne pas avoir à s'attarder en Asie. Il sehâtait afin d'être, si possible, le jour de la Pentecôte à Jérusalem.
17 From Miletus he had the presbyters of the church at Ephesus summoned.	17 De Milet, il envoya chercher à Ephèse les anciens de cette Eglise.
18 When they came to him, he addressed them, "You know how I lived among you the whole time from the day I first came to the province of Asia.	18 Quand ils furent arrivés auprès de lui, il leur dit: "Vous savez vous-mêmes de quelle façon, depuisle premier jour où j'ai mis le pied en Asie, je n'ai cessé de me comporter avec vous,
19 I served the Lord with all humility and with the tears and trials that came to me because of the plots of the Jews,	19 servant le Seigneur en toute humilité, dans les larmes et au milieu des épreuves que m'ontoccasionnées les machinations des Juifs.
20 and I did not at all shrink from telling you what was for your benefit, or from teaching you in public or in your homes.	20 Vous savez comment, en rien de ce qui vous était avantageux, je ne me suis dérobé quand il fallaitvous prêcher et vous instruire, en public et en privé,
21 I earnestly bore witness for both Jews and Greeks to repentance before God and to faith in our Lord Jesus.	21 adjurant Juifs et Grecs de se repentir envers Dieu et de croire en Jésus, notre Seigneur.
22 But now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem. What will happen to me there I do not know,	22 "Et maintenant voici qu'enchaîné par l'Esprit je me rends à Jérusalem, sans savoir ce qui m'yadviendra,
23 except that in one city after another the holy Spirit has been warning me that imprisonment and hardships await me.	23 sinon que, de ville en ville, l'Esprit Saint m'avertit que chaînes et tribulations m'attendent.
24 Yet I consider life of no importance to me, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the gospel of God's grace.	24 Mais je n'attache aucun prix à ma propre vie, pourvu que je mène à bonne fin ma course et leministère que j'ai reçu du Seigneur Jésus: rendre témoignage à l'Evangile de la grâce de Dieu.
25 "But now I know that none of you to whom I preached the kingdom during my travels will ever see my face again.	25 "Et maintenant voici que, je le sais, vous ne reverrez plus mon visage, vous tous au milieu de quij'ai passé en proclamant le Royaume.
26 And so I solemnly declare to you this day that I am not responsible for the blood of any of you,	26 C'est pourquoi je l'atteste aujourd'hui devant vous: je suis pur du sang de tous.
27 for I did not shrink from proclaiming to you the entire plan of God.	27 Car je ne me suis pas dérobé quand il fallait vous annoncer toute la volonté de Dieu.
28 Keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock of which the holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, in which you tend the church of God that he acquired with his own blood.	28 "Soyez attentifs à vous-mêmes, et à tout le troupeau dont l'Esprit Saint vous a établis gardiens pourpaître l'Eglise de Dieu, qu'il s'est acquise par le sang de son propre fils.
29 I know that after my departure savage wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock.	29 "Je sais, moi, qu'après mon départ il s'introduira parmi vous des loups redoutables qui neménageront pas le troupeau,
30 And from your own group, men will come forward perverting the truth to draw the disciples away after them.	30 et que du milieu même de vous se lèveront des hommes tenant des discours pervers dans le butd'entraîner les disciples à leur suite.
31 So be vigilant and remember that for three years, night and day, I unceasingly admonished each of you with tears.	31 C'est pourquoi soyez vigilants, vous souvenant que, trois années durant, nuit et jour, je n'ai cessé dereprendre avec larmes chacun d'entre vous.
32 And now I commend you to God and to that gracious word of his that can build you up and give you the inheritance among all who are consecrated.	32 "Et à présent je vous confie à Dieu et à la parole de sa grâce, qui a le pouvoir de bâtir l'édifice et deprocurer l'héritage parmi tous les sanctifiés.
33 I have never wanted anyone's silver or gold or clothing.	33 "Argent, or, vêtements, je n'en ai convoité de personne:
34 You know well that these very hands have served my needs and my companions.	34 vous savez vous-mêmes qu'à mes besoins et à ceux de mes compagnons ont pourvu les mains quevoilà.
35 In every way I have shown you that by hard work of that sort we must help the weak, and keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"	35 De toutes manières je vous l'ai montré: c'est en peinant ainsi qu'il faut venir en aide aux faibles et sesouvenir des paroles du Seigneur Jésus, qui a dit lui-même: Il y a plus de bonheur à donner qu'à recevoir."
36 When he had finished speaking he knelt down and prayed with them all.	36 A ces mots, se mettant à genoux, avec eux tous il pria.
37 They were all weeping loudly as they threw their arms around Paul and kissed him,	37 Tous alors éclatèrent en sanglots, et, se jetant au cou de Paul, ils l'embrassaient,
38 for they were deeply distressed that he had said that they would never see his face again. Then they escorted him to the ship.	38 affligés surtout de la parole qu'il avait dite: qu'ils ne devaient plus revoir son visage. Puis ilsl'accompagnèrent jusqu'au bateau.
