2 until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.	2 jusqu'au jour où après avoir donné ses ordres, par l'Esprit-Saint, aux Apôtres qu'il avait choisis, il fut enlevé au ciel.
3 He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.	3 Il s'était aussi montré à eux vivant, après sa passion, par des preuves nombreuses, leur apparaissant pendant quarante jours, et leur parlant du royaume de Dieu.
4 While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for "the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak;	4 Comme il mangeait avec eux, il leur ordonna de ne pas s'éloigner de Jérusalem, mais d'attendre la promesse du Père, que vous avez, dit-il, entendue de ma bouche ;
5 for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the holy Spirit."	5 car Jean a baptisé dans l'eau, mais vous, vous serez baptisés dans l'Esprit-Saint dans peu de jours.
6 When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?"	6 Ceux donc qui se trouvèrent réunis l'interrogèrent en disant : Seigneur, est-ce maintenant que vous rétablirez le royaume d'Israël ?
7 He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority.	7 Il leur répondit : Ce n'est point à vous de connaître les temps ou les moments que le Père a fixés de sa propre autorité ;
8 But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."	8 mais vous recevrez la force (vertu) du Saint-Esprit qui descendra sur vous ; et vous serez mes témoins à Jérusalem, et dans toute la Judée et la Samarie, et jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.
9 When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.	9 Après qu'il eut dit ces paroles, sous leurs regards il fut élevé, et une nuée le déroba à leurs yeux.
10 While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them.	10 Et comme ils contemplaient attentivement le ciel pendant qu'il s'en allait, voici que deux hommes se présentèrent à eux en vêtements blancs,
11 They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."	11 et dirent : Hommes de Galilée, pourquoi restez-vous là à regarder au ciel ? Ce Jésus, qui du milieu de vous a été élevé dans le ciel, viendra de la même manière que vous l'avez vu aller au ciel.
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day's journey away.	12 Alors ils revinrent à Jérusalem, de la montagne appelée des Oliviers, qui est près de Jérusalem, à la distance du chemin d'un jour de sabbat.
13 When they entered the city they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.	13 Lorsqu'ils furent rentrés, ils montèrent dans la chambre haute (le cénacle, note) où demeuraient Pierre et Jean, Jacques et André, Philippe et Thomas, Barthélemy et Matthieu, Jacques, fils d'Alphée, et Simon le Zélote, et Jude, frère de Jacques.
14 All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.	14 Eux tous persévéraient d'un commun accord dans la prière avec les femmes, et Marie, mère de Jésus, et ses frères.
15 During those days Peter stood up in the midst of the brothers (there was a group of about one hundred and twenty persons in the one place). He said,	15 En ces jours-là, Pierre, se levant au milieu des frères, qui étaient rassemblés au nombre d'environ cent vingt, leur dit :
16 "My brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled which the holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who was the guide for those who arrested Jesus.	16 Mes frères, il fallait que s'accomplît ce que le Saint-Esprit a prédit dans l'Ecriture, par la bouche de David, au sujet de Judas, qui a été le guide de ceux qui ont arrêté Jésus.
17 He was numbered among us and was allotted a share in this ministry.	17 Il était compté parmi nous, et il avait reçu sa part de notre ministère.
18 He bought a parcel of land with the wages of his iniquity, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle, and all his insides spilled out.	18 Cet homme, après avoir acquis un champ avec le salaire du crime, se pendit et se brisa par le milieu, et toutes ses entrailles se répandirent.
19 This became known to everyone who lived in Jerusalem, so that the parcel of land was called in their language 'Akeldama,' that is, Field of Blood.	19 Le fait a été si connu de tous les habitants de Jérusalem, que ce champ a été nommé dans leur langue Haceldama, c'est-à-dire, champ du sang.
20 For it is written in the Book of Psalms: 'Let his encampment become desolate, and may no one dwell in it.' And: 'May another take his office.'	20 Car il est écrit dans le livre des Psaumes : Que leur demeure devienne déserte et qu'il n'y ait personne qui l'habite, et qu'un autre reçoive son ministère.
21 Therefore, it is necessary that one of the men who accompanied us the whole time the Lord Jesus came and went among us,	21 Il faut donc que, parmi les hommes qui ont été en notre compagnie pendant tout le temps que le Seigneur Jésus a vécu avec nous,
22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day on which he was taken up from us, become with us a witness to his resurrection."	22 à commencer depuis le baptême de Jean, jusqu'au jour où il a été enlevé du milieu de nous, il y en ait un qui devienne avec nous témoin de sa résurrection.
23 So they proposed two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also known as Justus, and Matthias.	23 Ils en présentèrent deux : Joseph appelé Barsabas, surnommé le Juste, et Mathias.
24 Then they prayed, "You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen	24 Et se mettant en prière, ils dirent : Seigneur, vous qui connaissez les cœurs de tous, montrez lequel de ces deux vous avez choisi
25 to take the place in this apostolic ministry from which Judas turned away to go to his own place."	25 pour occuper la part du ministère et de l'apostolat que Judas a quitté par son crime, pour s'en aller dans son lieu.
26 Then they gave lots to them, and the lot fell upon Matthias, and he was counted with the eleven apostles.	26 Alors ils tirèrent au sort ; et le sort tomba sur Mathias, qui fut mis au rang des onze Apôtres.
