NEW AMERICAN BIBLEBIBLIA
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.1 Entonces Jesús fue llevado por el Espíritu al desierto para ser tentado por el diablo.
He fasted for forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was hungry.2 Y después de hacer un ayuno de cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, al fin sintió hambre.
The tempter approached and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread."3 Y acercándose el tentador, le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, di que estas piedras se conviertan en panes».
He said in reply, "It is written: 'One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.'"4 Mas él respondió: «Está escrito: No sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios».
Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple,5 Entonces el diablo le lleva consigo a la Ciudad Santa, le pone sobre el alero del Templo,
and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: 'He will command his angels concerning you and 'with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.'"6 y le dice: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, tírate abajo, porque está escrito: A sus ángeles te encomendará, y en sus manos te llevarán, para que no tropiece tu pie en piedra alguna».
Jesus answered him, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'"7 Jesús le dijo: «También está escrito: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios».
Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence,8 Todavía le lleva consigo el diablo a un monte muy alto, le muestra todos los reinos del mundo y su gloria,
and he said to him, "All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me."9 y le dice: «Todo esto te daré si postrándote me adoras».
At this, Jesus said to him, "Get away, Satan! It is written: 'The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.'"10 Dícele entonces Jesús: «Apártate, Satanás, porque está escrito: Al Señor tu Dios adorarás, y sólo a él darás culto».
Then the devil left him and, behold, angels came and ministered to him.11 Entonces el diablo le deja. Y he aquí que se acercaron unos ángeles y le servían.
When he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee.12 Cuando oyó que Juan había sido entregado, se retiró a Galilea.
He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali,13 Y dejando Nazará, vino a residir en Cafarnaúm junto al mar, en el término de Zabulón y Neftalí;
that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled:14 para que se cumpliera el oráculo del profeta Isaías:
"Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,15 ¡Tierra de Zabulón, tierra de Neftalí, camino del mar, allende el Jordán, Galilea de los gentiles!
the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death light has arisen."16 El pueblo que habitaba en tinieblas ha visto una gran luz; a los que habitaban en paraje de sombras de muerte una luz les ha amanecido.
From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."17 Desde entonces comenzó Jesús a predicar y decir: «Convertíos, porque el Reino de los Cielos ha llegado».
As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen.18 Caminando por la ribera del mar de Galilea vio a dos hermanos, Simón, llamado Pedro, y su hermano Andrés, echando la red en el mar, pues eran pescadores,
He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."19 y les dice: «Venid conmigo, y os haré pescadores de hombres».
At once they left their nets and followed him.20 Y ellos al instante, dejando las redes, le siguieron.
He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them,21 Caminando adelante, vio a otros dos hermanos, Santiago el de Zebedeo y su hermano Juan, que estaban en la barca con su padre Zebedeo arreglando sus redes; y los llamó.
and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him.22 Y ellos al instante, dejando la barca y a su padre, le siguieron.
He went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people.23 Recorría Jesús toda Galilea, enseñando en sus sinagogas, proclamando la Buena Nueva del Reino y curando toda enfermedad y toda dolencia en el pueblo.
His fame spread to all of Syria, and they brought to him all who were sick with various diseases and racked with pain, those who were possessed, lunatics, and paralytics, and he cured them.24 Su fama llegó a toda Siria; y le trajeron todos los que se encontraban mal con enfermedades y sufrimientos diversos, endemoniados, lunáticos y paralíticos, y los curó.
And great crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan followed him.25 Y le siguió una gran muchedumbre de Galilea, Decápolis, Jerusalén y Judea, y del otro lado del Jordán.
