NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.1 Et convocatis Duodecim di scipulis suis, dedit illis pote statemspirituum immundorum, ut eicerent eos et curarent omnem languorem et omneminfirmitatem.
The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;2 Duodecim autem apostolorum nomina sunt haec: primus Simon, qui dicitur Petrus,et Andreas frater eius, et Iacobus Zebedaei et Ioannes frater eius,
Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;3 Philippuset Bartholomaeus, Thomas et Matthaeus publicanus, Iacobus Alphaei et Thaddaeus,
Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.4 Simon Chananaeus et Iudas Iscariotes, qui et tradidit eum.
Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, "Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.5 Hos Duodecim misit Iesus praecipiens eis et dicens: “ In viam gentium neabieritis et in civitates Samaritanorum ne intraveritis;
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.6 sed potius ite adoves, quae perierunt domus Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'7 Euntes autem praedicate dicentes: “Appropinquavitregnum caelorum”.
Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.8 Infirmos curate, mortuos suscitate, leprosos mundate, daemones eicite; gratisaccepistis, gratis date.
Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts;9 Nolite possidere aurum neque argentum neque pecuniamin zonis vestris,
no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick. The laborer deserves his keep.10 non peram in via neque duas tunicas neque calceamenta nequevirgam; dignus enim est operarius cibo suo.
Whatever town or village you enter, look for a worthy person in it, and stay there until you leave.11 In quamcumque civitatem aut castellum intraveritis, interrogate quis in eadignus sit; et ibi manete donec exeatis.
As you enter a house, wish it peace.12 Intrantes autem in domum, salutateeam;
If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; if not, let your peace return to you.13 et si quidem fuerit domus digna, veniat pax vestra super eam; si autemnon fuerit digna, pax vestra ad vos revertatur.
Whoever will not receive you or listen to your words--go outside that house or town and shake the dust from your feet.14 Et quicumque non receperitvos neque audierit sermones vestros, exeuntes foras de domo vel de civitateilla, excutite pulverem de pedibus vestris.
Amen, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.15 Amen dico vobis: Tolerabiliuserit terrae Sodomorum et Gomorraeorum in die iudicii quam illi civitati.
"Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves.16 Ecce ego mitto vos sicut oves in medio luporum; estote ergo prudentes sicutserpentes et simplices sicut columbae.
But beware of people, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues,17 Cavete autem ab hominibus; tradentenim vos in conciliis, et in synagogis suis flagellabunt vos;
and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans.18 et ad praesideset ad reges ducemini propter me in testimonium illis et gentibus.
When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say.19 Cum autemtradent vos, nolite cogitare quomodo aut quid loquamini; dabitur enim vobis inilla hora quid loquamini.
For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.20 Non enim vos estis, qui loquimini, sed SpiritusPatris vestri, qui loquitur in vobis.
Brother will hand over brother to death, and the father his child; children will rise up against parents and have them put to death.21 Tradet autem frater fratrem in mortem, et pater filium; et insurgent filii inparentes et morte eos afficient.
You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved.22 Et eritis odio omnibus propter nomen meum;qui autem perseveraverit in finem, hic salvus erit.
When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. Amen, I say to you, you will not finish the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.23 Cum autem persequenturvos in civitate ista, fugite in aliam; amen enim dico vobis: Non consummabitiscivitates Israel, donec veniat Filius hominis.
No disciple is above his teacher, no slave above his master.24 Non est discipulus super magistrum nec servus super dominum suum.
It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher, for the slave that he become like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!25 Sufficitdiscipulo, ut sit sicut magister eius, et servus sicut dominus eius. Si patremfamilias Beelzebul vocaverunt, quanto magis domesticos eius!
"Therefore do not be afraid of them. Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known.26 Ne ergo timueritis eos. Nihil enim est opertum, quod non revelabitur, etoccultum, quod non scietur.
What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light; what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.27 Quod dico vobis in tenebris, dicite in lumine;et, quod in aure auditis, praedicate super tecta.
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.28 Et nolite timere eos, quioccidunt corpus, animam autem non possunt occidere; sed potius eum timete, quipotest et animam et corpus perdere in gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge.29 Nonne duo passeres asseveneunt? Et unus ex illis non cadet super terram sine Patre vestro.
Even all the hairs of your head are counted.30 Vestri autem et capilli capitis omnes numerati sunt.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.31 Nolite ergo timere;multis passeribus meliores estis vos.
Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.32 Omnis ergo qui confitebitur me coram hominibus, confitebor et ego eum coramPatre meo, qui est in caelis;
But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.33 qui autem negaverit me coram hominibus, negaboet ego eum coram Patre meo, qui est in caelis.
"Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword.34 Nolite arbitrari quia venerim mittere pacem in terram; non veni pacem mitteresed gladium.
For I have come to set a man 'against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;35 Veni enim separare
hominem adversus patrem suum
et filiam adversus matrem suam
et nurum adversus socrum suam:
and one's enemies will be those of his household.'36 et inimici hominis domestici eius.
"Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;37 Qui amat patrem aut matrem plus quam me, non est me dignus; et, qui amatfilium aut filiam super me, non est me dignus;
and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.38 et, qui non accipit crucemsuam et sequitur me, non est me dignus.
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.39 Qui invenerit animam suam, perdetillam; et, qui perdiderit animam suam propter me, inveniet eam.
"Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.40 Qui recipit vos, me recipit; et, qui me recipit, recipit eum, qui me misit.
Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man's reward.41 Qui recipit prophetam in nomine prophetae, mercedem prophetae accipiet; et,qui recipit iustum in nomine iusti, mercedem iusti accipiet.
And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple--amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward."42 Et, quicumquepotum dederit uni ex minimis istis calicem aquae frigidae tantum in nominediscipuli, amen dico vobis: Non perdet mercedem suam ”.
