1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.	1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham:
2 Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.	2 Abraham begot Isaac. And Isaac begot Jacob. And Jacob begot Judas and his brethren.
3 Judah became the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar. Perez became the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram,	3 And Judas begot Phares and Zara of Thamar. And Phares begot Esron. And Esron begot Aram.
4 Ram the father of Amminadab. Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon,	4 And Aram begot Aminadab. And Aminadab begot Naasson. And Naasson begot Salmon.
5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab. Boaz became the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth. Obed became the father of Jesse,	5 And Salmon begot Booz of Rahab. And Booz begot Obed of Ruth. And Obed begot Jesse.
6 Jesse the father of David the king. David became the father of Solomon, whose mother had been the wife of Uriah.	6 And Jesse begot David the king. And David the king begot Solomon, of her that had been the wife of Urias.
7 Solomon became the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asaph.	7 And Solomon begot Roboam. And Roboam begot Abia. And Abia begot Asa.
8 Asaph became the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, Joram the father of Uzziah.	8 And Asa begot Josaphat. And Josaphat begot Joram. And Joram begot Ozias.
9 Uzziah became the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah.	9 And Ozias begot Joatham. And Joatham begot Achaz. And Achaz begot Ezechias.
10 Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amos, Amos the father of Josiah.	10 And Ezechias begot Manasses. And Manesses begot Amon. And Amon begot Josias.
11 Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers at the time of the Babylonian exile.	11 And Josias begot Jechonias and his brethren in the transmigration of Babylon.
12 After the Babylonian exile, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,	12 And after the transmigration of Babylon, Jechonias begot Salathiel. And Salathiel begot Zorobabel.
13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud. Abiud became the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor,	13 And Zorobabel begot Abiud. And Abiud begot Eliacim. And Eliacim begot Azor.
14 Azor the father of Zadok. Zadok became the father of Achim, Achim the father of Eliud,	14 And Azor begot Sadoc. And Sadoc begot Achim. And Achim begot Eliud.
15 Eliud the father of Eleazar. Eleazar became the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,	15 And Eliud begot Eleazar. And Eleazar begot Mathan. And Mathan begot Jacob.
16 Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary. Of her was born Jesus who is called the Messiah.	16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17 Thus the total number of generations from Abraham to David is fourteen generations; from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations; from the Babylonian exile to the Messiah, fourteen generations.	17 So all the generations, from Abraham to David, are fourteen generations. And from David to the transmigration of Babylon, are fourteen generations: and from the transmigration of Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations.
18 Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the holy Spirit.	18 Now the generation of Christ was in this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child, of the Holy Ghost.
19 Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly.	19 Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately.
20 Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.	20 But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost.
21 She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."	21 And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins.
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:	22 Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying:
23 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means "God is with us."	23 Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24 When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.	24 And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife.
25 He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named him Jesus.	25 And he knew her not till she brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
